so we know touch isn't a big thing for eridians. they might tap carapaces once in a while, mates might sit close to each other, but it's definitely not the cultural expression of closeness it is for humans.
but rocky was all alone for 46 years. he had nothing that could make noise or bleed warmth or shuffle right up against him. (maybe he had a phase sitting as close as he could to the blip-a's engines?) anyway i'm saying that grace & rocky get back to erid and rocky, who wanted so badly to snuggle with grace that he designed an eva suit about it, is achieving degrees of clingy previously unrecorded by eridian society.
You know, I'm snagging this to "Yes, and..."
With such high gravity on erid, it's possible that there are predators/scavengers that rely on enveloping and absorbing their prey without the use of bones, just super thick cell membranes or other flexible structures to keep everything protected and supported. So these large, blobish things operate like multicellular amoeba crawling around the low places of Erid.
Maybe these things are opportunistic, and will try to sniff out anything else that sleeps in a comatose state like eridians. Rolling over an unwatched eridian as it sleeps, slowly dissolving or prying apart the carapace before sucking out the insides like some hellish starfish.
So the idea of something wrapping itself around you is straight out of the most gruesome horror stories on Erid. Adrian walking in on Rocky and Grace cuddling for the first time, and having a panic attack that "GRACE EAT ROCKY QUESTION? ROCKY ADRIAN TRUSTED GRACE WHY GRACE DO THIS NO ROCKY NO NO NO-" The first time Grace tried to hug a pebble it was terror and chaos for a solid 2 minutes. Rocky having to admit to Grace that Rocky may be a little bit of a freak by eridian social standards for wanting to be practically surrounded by the sounds of Grace's inner workings.
