Don't make fun of any accents, ever, for any reason.
The person on the receiving end will most likely fall in at least one of three categories:
Second language
Regional accent
Speech impediment
1. Second language
This person is probably speaking in this language to you because either you don't speak their mother tongue or you speak it worse than they speak the language you are speaking. They are making an effort for you. An accent doesn't make you dumb.
Making fun of someone for attempting to communicate in another language is the height of assholery.
2. Regional accent
Half the time you make fun of regional accents, you make fun of historically disenfranchised accents.
Southern accents? Congrats you're making fun of the way rural, usually poor, people speak. Their speech was highly influenced by black people.
Don't even get me started on making fun of AAE.
Again, an accent doesn't make you any less intelligent.
3. Speech impediment
They know they have a speech impediment. They are probably trying very hard not to sound like that. It is literally not their fault. They have had to deal with people making fun of it their whole life.
A speech impediment doesn't make you less intelligent either.
Adding that it's absolutely okay to correct someone's pronunciation. Please! I am tormented, in sweat cold terror, of traveling to some coast and asking the locals for directions to the nearest bitch, because you neglected to roast me when I needed it the most
I would like to add that it's important to ask first before correcting someone, ask them if they'd like your feedback.
It's one thing if someone's pronunciation is so off that you genuinely cannot tell what they're trying to say, so you ask if they'd like your assistance in order to be easier to understand.
It's another thing if you can understand what they're trying to say, but their pronunciation isn't 100% perfect (aka, having an accent, something all second language speakers will have if they learned the language in adulthood, no amount of correcting someone can fully erase their accent) so you jump in and correct their less than perfect pronunciation without even knowing if they want your feedback. This can, understandably, make some second language speakers feel patronized.
and some people just can't pronounce some things properly - i'm pretty sure this can be the case just from what people hear and pick up as children, but i'm no expert there
but like. i can't pronounce some things properly no matter how i try because of my dyspraxia, and some things i have to put in clear effort and one syllable at a time i don't mind people asking me to repeat myself or for clarification because i know it's an issue, but people trying to correct me out of nowhere is just. frustrating and likely to make me lose what i was trying to say altogether from the interruption realistically (at least for me) it's only worth it to put in the effort in important situations, like trying to pronounce someone's name, so if you know what someone's talking about then please just deal with it
When you get mad, take a deep breath and count to ten. Throw a punch at eight. No one ever expects that.
(smugly) actually all narration is unreliable because language can only ever communicate through approximation
southern american politicians will be like "m'name's buck bingo and i'm a hard worker...... just like y'all" and he's an private school + ivy league educated guy actually named buckley beaumont carlisle who was born into a family who owned slaves and still profits from it to this day. and people eat that shit up.
last night i went on a crazy wikidive lol
i was going to ask what other versions of this exist in other countries lmao

Finally drew the Bugs ✨ (plus a few friends)
hey, I couldn't help but notice you're getting crushed under a boot. that's a real bummer. I can see how it happened, though, you were doing things that get you crushed by boots. there's really no helping that--the existence of boots and the things they crush you for, I mean--but I do have some advice. I've never gotten crushed by a boot in my life, you see--not in real life. what I do is, I make a boot of my own in my head and just crush myself with it pre-emptively 24/7. and that way I never ever do anything, ever, you see? it's easy. it's incredibly easy and makes my life so much better.
I am pro-accredited aquariums and zoos. My posts critiquing the animal rights movement are blowing up right now and I just want to come out and say definitively that I appreciate zoos and aquariums allowing the public to view wild animals without potentially disturbing them in their natural habitat or resorting to the illegal exotic pet trade. It is valuable for conservation purposes and many aquariums/zoos take unreleasable wildlife and host breeding programs for endangered species. They are not just institutions for human amusement, they are integral to maintaining public interest and studying the ecology and biology of the animals contained within.
hey man can i bum a couple of fire arrows
i'm pregnant... with the next great American novel! [looks directly at you, suddenly serious] and I'm getting an abortion
