reblog if you believe fanfics are as valid as books that were published and sold by authors who write as their main careers. I'm trying to prove a point
i do think we should normalise being like. platonically enamoured with someone. perhaps i love and admire you dearly and there's nothing romantic about it
Fr, like as someone who does exprience romantic and platonic enamour towards others, it made it soooo difficult to figure out which was which because larger society doesn't really seem to understand platonic admiration at times. It is like there is an assumption that if you admire, care for, love, ect deeply that it has to be romantic when really it's not.
I deeply love many of my friends but it is far from romantic and that really does need to be normalised. Y'all can love your friends deeply without having any sort of other interest in them!!!!!!
I was thinking about the whole "stop giving serial killers cool names, it gives them power" thing and I feel Young Justice would totally jump on that train and try to give the villains they fight the stupidest/funniest/most immature names they can think of.
It works like a game of telephone where they just spitball and riff off eachother until they reach a final product that makes no sense to anybody except themselves, and once they decide on a name, they are completely dedicated to using it and nothing else. They even got major news outlets to switch to using exclusively the stupid names instead of the ones villains refer to themselves by.
They turn it into a sort of competition of who can name the most villains in a month.
Bart uses the spaghetti method. He just throws as many names as he can think of out there and just sees what sticks. Some of them are really good; others are just horrible.
Cassie and Kon are the most reliable namers and are at the same level where they can both consistently come up with pretty good names, but this makes them really competitive. Tim occasionally needs to redirect them to actually fighting the villain rather than eachother.
Cissie doesn't really participate unless the person/thing they are fighting says something that pisses her off, at which point she is scarily good at it.
Tim, on the other hand, is just really bad at it for some reason. The guy tries, and, like, he's good at coming up with serious names, but he inherited none of Dick's talent for puns.
You know, there is something to be said about trying to characterise speech patterns and accents and all sorts of other things that I feel like sometimes fly under the radar and that's why characters can just feel so out of character in fics, to me at least.
Like, for example, I am writing my dumb little story about my gay robots (Jazz and my oc Starflare) getting together and one thing that I have been oddly conscious of on the story is how I write each characters' way of speaking.
Jazz is extremely distinct where he shortens words a lot, uses more human words and slang, ect. (To=ta, -ing=-in', you=ya ect, that kind of stuff specifically). For me it's to not only communicate how he gives the perception of being more laid back, but also his love for earth and his background from before the war (idw based but not wholly consistent). The music scene is generally full of more casual language and given he is Jazz well, that kind of vibe too, yknow?
It makes it so weird when I write him speaking more "normal" for lack of a better word.
Starflare, on the other hand, was exclusively around the high class and military. His speech is very formal, no contractions, and he uses more advanced vocabulary because he is rather uptight in comparison and also "elevated" speech, especially while talking fast, can confuse people more if they are used to more casual language. If I accidentally write him speaking casually it's such a jumpscare lol.
Anyways, point is, the distinctions in how dialogue is written for characters really makes or breaks them for me in fics and is where *I* feel like a lot of mischaracterisation or the blending of characters can occur. Like, I have read quite a few fics where the dialogue feels like it can come from any character and the story feels flat speaking-wise (and often emotionally because dialogue reveals a lot about emotions, motivations etc.)
And don't get me wrong, short fics where this kind of characterisation is less of concern compared to the other plot, characterised dialogue is not as much of an issue. But LONG fics with a lot of characters, I feel like speaking characterisations matters just as much as everything else.
idk, this is just me ranting really cause I was thinking about it. It's not a super serious critique because honestly, I am happy to just get content for the fandoms and ships I like. It is perhaps more of a critique of myself tbh. My dialogue has always been rather flat.

So, I love making aus of all sorts of things right.
But I gotta say the funniest product of any au I have made has been naming a sparkling 'Dent' of all things. I do not know why but it is funny as hell to me.
Oh, also, he is an MegOp sparkling lol.
Would they really name their child that?
Debatable.
But I think it is funny so it stays.
Also also, Dent comes from what I currently have dubbed the "Ideal" au. Ideal in the sense that it is ideal for my main OC and I guess everyone else. It is a most everyone lives/not everyone dies au that takes a lot of the cannon of the war from the IDW verse and bits and pieces of the after war cannon too. It is mostly focused on Cybertron being rebuilt, however, so there are lot of things like Lost Light that do not happen.
It's just for fun mostly and to help me process my own emotions too.
Besides, Starflare deserves something good in his life after everything else I put him through lol.
An adaptation of Sherlock Holmes set in a world in which the fictional character/literary juggernaut Sherlock Holmes, and all the subsequent adaptations thereof, still exist.
Sherlock Holmes (pronounced Holl-mess, as he is constantly reminding people) just had the misfortune of having parents who really liked the books, and his attitude towards his fictional counterpart is pretty much the same as that of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Sherlock runs a Youtube Theory channel called Mysteries Unwrapped with Sherlock Holmes. He has received no less than seven cease and desist letters from the Conan Doyle estate, all of which he has so faded managed to rebuff by pointing out that that's literally his name.
(No he won't change his name. He's Sherlock Holmes the real live human person. Let Sherlock Holmes the non existent fictional character change his name.)
John is Sherlock's flatmate. Sherlock almost refused to live with him once he realised that it would mean staying with a medical student named John, and only gave in once John pointed out that: a) he's a biomedical student, which is completely different from an md, and b) his surname isn't Watson.
It's now been three years, which is long enough for them to have developed a genuine friendship, and for John to have a) started working towards his PhD in biotechnology, and b) for him to start dating somebody with the surname Watson.
Sherlock can feel the narrative closing in.
His Youtube channel is meant to be focused on lost media, fan theories and stuff like that, but he keeps accidentally stumbling upon and then solving genuine crimes.
His brother Mycroft may or may not have chosen that name after he transitions specifically to annoy him.
He doesn't even live in London, but somehow the only flat they could afford was on a street named fucking Baker Street.
Sherlock Holmes and the Unescapable Power of the Narrative.
I was 12 when the first of my siblings was born, so I have very vivid memories of the way my mother was excluded from a lot of spaces because people find children annoying.
If you think "children should not be allowed in this space," you HAVE TO reckon with the fact that you are now excluding parents (and very often women specifically) who don't have access to childcare. You are isolating people who are poor, or rural, or single parents, or any number of other factors that might prevent someone from having on-demand childcare. You are cutting them off from being able to exist in public. You are denying parents and children the ability to fully participate in society.
My mom spent several years only leaving the house to buy groceries or take me to school, and even then, people would still come up to her to complain TO HER FACE about how she shouldn't bring a crying toddler to Walmart. Entitled strangers would literally try and demand that my mom leave and come back without the kids.
"Why can't your husband watch them?" Because he was at work, usually working extreme amounts of overtime so we didn't get evicted, because landlords don't like it when you stop paying rent.
"Why can't you send them to daycare?" Because that costs money.
"Why can't your teenager stay home with them and babysit?" Because I also deserved to be able to leave the house for something other than school, and taking me to the grocery store was how my mom taught me to manage a household budget, shop sales, and meal plan.
"Don't bring your kid in public if you can't CONTROL them and make them stop crying!" Kids cry when they're upset, and being dragged around a store is upsetting! Don't be an asshole! Children are human beings who are still learning how the world works, and they don't have a lot of agency. You'd cry, too.
"Spank them until they learn to stop crying!" That's just straight-up child abuse, Jesus Christ.
What the fuck was our family supposed to do? Never go to the grocery store? Starve because strangers couldn't handle a toddler existing in public?
I am incredibly fucking disturbed at the way this post has brought people out of the woodwork who really want to tell me all about how hitting kids isn't actually abuse, how they think babies are the spawn of Satan, and how being confined to the home is an acceptable punishment for women who dare to have children. People have told me all about how they think children should be banned from airplanes, that I'm being inconsiderate to childfree people, that allowing crying babies in public is ableist against people with sensory issues (I have those, too, and so do many children, which is often WHY THEY ARE CRYING, jackass), and that people who have children are "irresponsible" and "selfish."
I have blocked multiple people who went on tirades about how I'm a "horrible breeder" who is "contributing to overpopulation" and how I and my "spawn" deserve to be trapped at home. (I am infertile and my foster kid is an adult now, so I don't know what breeding and spawn they think they're talking about.)
One person asked if I was posting ragebait for fun because "this isn't a real issue." Several have asked if this "really happens" and told me that my "experience isn't universal." (There are multiple parents in the comments who have agreed with me and talked about how hard it is to navigate the world with their kids.)
Children are an oppressed class who are treated like absolute vermin. Parents are given absolutely no support in caring for them. Good parents are set at a disadvantage even when they have all the best intentions, struggling parents aren't given resources to improve their situation or get community assistance, and blatantly abusive parents don't get caught because hitting and screaming and controlling are considered perfectly normal ways to treat a child. Communities would rather shut kids away where they can be ignored and forgotten and mistreated, all for the sin of "being annoying in public."
Youth liberation is vital, regardless of whether you, personally, like kids. You cannot ban children from public. You cannot shut children away in isolation and expect them to grow into happy, healthy, well-adjusted adults who can function in our society. You do not get to demand children be removed from every corner of public life all for your personal comfort.

Pre-War Lore below!
G1/IDW 2005 based with continuity soup and headcannons (I am also still in the process of reading the comics)
Before the war, Starflare was the first of three war-recon seekers cold constructed for the military of Vos. He was the trial run, in a sense, before he proved his use-ability and his brothers, Silverbolt and Solarwind, were then constructed to form a full unit. The blueprints for their frame type were later destroyed in an attempt to gatekeep them.
More about their frame type: the three were made specifically to gather information and infiltrate enemy territory. They were built for speed and altitude, making them the fastest and highest flying Cold Constructed Cybertronians without any outlier abilities. They do not have any advanced armor nor any weapon systems. However, the three of them have height on their side and thus, strength. Starflare stands at about 45 ft. Solarwind at 47 ft. and Silverbolt at 49 ft. Like most seekers, their wings are the most sensitive part of their external frame.
Additionally, they have advanced processors made to take in sensory data to draw conclusions about other mecha, actions, or their surroundings faster than nearly any other type of processor, except for a TacNet. Unlike a TacNet, their processors do not take in all data to calculate probabilities and predictions. Their processors are focused more on in the moment calculations of their surroundings and deal more in absolutes. At times, this can make them appear more impulsive, acting quickly as soon as their processor spits out its conclusions. They also have a larger long-term memory cash, advanced internal data organisation, and advanced firewalls.
Starflare and Solarwind each also developed outlier abilities. Solarwind's will be expanded on in another post.
As for Starflare, he has the ability to manipulate energon. In a practical application, he could drain another mech of their energon reserves, draw energon from the ground, or locate energon. Later, when the war begins to set in, he will use it to burst mecha's energon lines as well as to feed on energon.
When it comes to personality, each of the recon seekers vary. Here we will focus on Starflare and I will expand on Silverbolt and Solarwind in separate posts.
Starflare, at first was very quiet, pliant, and seemed void of any real personality. It was not until he had time to be on his own that Starflare really grew into himself. Rather than quiet, it is more accurate to describe him as reserved. He rarely spoke unless it was necessary or for his own entertainment. Starflare was dry, snarky, sarcastic. With his brothers, he let this side of him remain on full display, often exchanging quips with Solarwind. To his commanders, he remained cold and professional. To outsiders, he would appear much the same until his boredom kicked in. Starflare took great joy in confusing civilians, not in outright mean-spirited ways, but he loved to keep people guessing. It could be childish at times, but childish traits often resided in a cold constructs. Regardless of who he was around, Starflare held himself high. A quiet confidence always clung to his frame and in combination with his quiet and intimidating presence, he often garnered the attetion of civilians, which he would later be directed to use as a way to 'seduce' information from mecha. Though, Starflare is not particularly charismatic. It is his air of mystery that did most of the work in those situations.
Starflare remained in Vos's military up until just before the Decepticons really started to mobilize. His missions mostly involved gaining intel on political opponents and at times, from other City-States. Later, he and his brothers also were sent on various assassination missions and capture-and-interrogate missions (which also often ended in death for the capturee(s))
For Starflare, this was all their was to his life and while he was not necessarily content, he had made peace with the fact that this was what he would do until he offlined.
That did not stop him from having desires.
With the amount of parties, clubs, and bars that the recon trine would frequent for their missions and later as a part of their wind-down routine, they had seen various music scenes. From more classical music to the experimental sounds of bands and DJs in the club, Starflare began to fall in love with music. The sound, the expression. In his rare free time, Starflare sought out recordings to (illegally) store in his data banks. Orchestral/Concert music really caught his spark and he eventually developed a strong desire to play. He researched how to play various instruments but he never owned an instrument to truly learn, not that he truly had the time.
If Starflare were to do anything else with his life, he would play music, for a packed audience, for one mech, for films, anything, he just wanted to play.
But his life would never offer that chance.
Until he met Starscream.
When Starflare and his trine met Starscream, the prideful seeker was hustiling for a living. To Starflare, this was baffling. Seekers easily obtained cushy jobs either in the military or sometimes even within government despite prejudice against cold constructs. Starflare and his brothers had fun messing with Starscream though. He tried to scam them and the three easily saw through it. When they had their fill, they blasted off, leaving Starscream to cough from the dust they kicked up with their take-off. That was not they last time they encountered Starscream, however.
There were a few more time when Starflare crossed paths with Starscream again while he was still scamming mecha. These encounters left Starflare with a few off-handed lines from Starscream about the latter's disdain for their system that Starflare brushed off but sometimes during late lunar cycles, Starflare would think about. This is when Starflare's dissatisfaction for his lot in life really started to form. If someone like Starscream could forge his own path in life, even if it was scummy, why couldn't Starflare.
These thoughts remained private, not even shared with his brothers.
Then Starscream became a senator of Vos and the recon trine found themselves crossing his path more often. At the parties that Starscream could be found drinking his boredom away, Starflare went out of his way to talk with him. Mere curiosity on his part. This led to Starflare asking various careful questions about Starscream's beliefs and past. For anything particularly deep, Starflare always waited until Starscream was too drunk to be able to remember properly later.
Starflare really began to despise functionism around this point. He wanted to pursue his desires, to live his life as he made it, not what he was designed for.
When Starscream ran off, abandoning his position as senator, Starflare was upset. It took him some time to realise that he was upset because in a way, Starscream was a confidant, perhaps even a friend. Starflare had told Starscream things that he still had yet to voice to his brothers. A twisted sense of abandonment settled in Starflare's spark. Though beacause of it, he and his trine eventually did discuss how they felt about their lives. They all were dissatisfied but also stuck, so they kept trucking along.
It was a while after that that the recon trine met with Starscream again. This time, Starscream was recruiting mecha for Megatron's revolution. The recon trine had merely happened across Starscream with he was trying to recruit other mecha. They listened in and to Starflare, this was their chance to finally take control of their own lives. The recon trine left quickly to take care of the mission they were supposed to be doing. It was only afterwards that they fully discussed the idea of joining the Decepticons.
Starflare was the one to approach Starscream some time after their eavesdropping. Starflare requested upfront to join Megatron, but first, he wanted an audience with the leader of the revolution.
Starscream arranged that audience and the recon trine went to meet Megatron themselves. They asked various questions, many of them somewhat cryptic in nature. Starflare particularly was concerned with the safety of his brothers. While revolution was just what they needed, the recon trine were not made for actual fighting. Low-risk assassinations, sure, but anything that put them on the front-lines was a no-go. When Starflare was assured that they would be put to use via their strengths, not just as bodies, the recon trine pledged themselves to Megatron's cause.
Starflare and his trine were able to give the Decepticons a lot of the intel they needed to finally turn the revolution into a war.

For context, our rp is very expansive and none of us are avi creators so we use whatever we can get our hands on that fits with our characters. So no, that is not Castorice or Zhongli lol
Instead, that is Anwir (Castorice (me)) and Paracosm (Zhongli(my partner)).
Art I did a while ago of some more characters in my RP. The one to the left is Gabriel, one of my characters. To the right is my Partner's character, The First or Dagath, also affectionately referred to as Space Hitler lolllll
Gabriel is another one of my Angeli Praesidiums but he is specifically from the Tertius generation and was one of the original named Angeli Corruptus. When he was corrupted, he could no longer feel emotions properly. But after he joined the Watchers and started a tentative friendship with The First, he gained the actually feeling of his emotions because The First gave them to him via some transmutation bullshittery. Now the two of them are in a doomed(?) Yaoi relationship lol. (It may or may not be doomed, we do not know yet because we love torturing our characters but also they're like... our children, yknow?)
Yo, for anyone that loves reading original stories, I am gradually posting my works about my characters from an RP that I am in. I will link my first story below so anyone who is interested can find these works! Warning though, I am a bit slow at posting...
"My Head is Haunting Me" (2463 words) by AceOfBleedingHearts
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Original Work
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Summary:
Eliel struggled to breathe along with Paracosm’s demonstrated breaths. His eyes slid closed as he focused on calming down again. When he was calm and had the courage to, Eliel continued, “The mortal, Torsten, he… he always seemed to know what to do. He was able to help anyone, no matter the circumstances…” Eliel met Paracosm’s eyes, his face suddenly more serious as the pain of loss came back to the angele, “No matter the cost.”
