Poor Eating Habits? Gym? Synchronization?
Why can't I seem to find the perfect balance between going to the gym and eating right?
For the past week since the day before thanksgiving, I've been eating like absolute crap! I just finally started going to the gym again (2 days in a row! Whoop-dee-doo!) and I still feel as though I'm not eating right.
For instance today I had coffee with sugar and milk. Then a I had a piece of cake at work and also a fiber one bar. I didn't eat for the rest of the day, and then I had a Starbucks Valencia Orange Refresher. Then I had 2 bowls of turkey soup, and picked on some steamed broccoli and a few slices of cheese.
LIKE EWWW WHAT THE HELL?? ALL THAT CRAP IS JUST STIRRING IN MY STOMACH AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY I ATE ANY OF IT.
WHAT HAPPENED TO:
SELF CONTROL??
I've no idea. That shit has flown south for the winter, and I've no idea where I'm going to find it.
But I guess I can try to start tomorrow.
I did 35 minutes on the bike today, I came home and did 35 squats. After each set of 10, I held the position for 15 seconds. And I felt really good about it.
So here's to tomorrow: Exercise control in eating healthier, and also somehow make it to the gym (for a third day in a row).
Gym?
So I actually went to the Gym yesterday. I've decided to start going at night. It's much more peaceful that way.
I got on the bike for 30 minutes. I also did 60 push ups, 3 different kinds: 20 to work out the chest, 20 to work the biceps, and 20 to work my triceps. All in all my arms really hurt. But it feels good. I'm glad I actually did something today.
I'm going to go back tonight and try my best to get on a bike/treadmill for at least 30 - 40 minutes. Maybe get some ab-work in.
I've had a realization today, no matter how hard I try, and no matter how good I look I will always hate myself and the way I look. I could be the kindest, smartest, sexiest person alive, and I would still hate myself for it.
I don't know why that is, but at least I recognize it.
December 3rd
Does anyone ever feel that looming sense of inadequacy? A sense that you'll never be good enough?
Today I'm feeling that more than ever.
Today, one year ago, my grandmother had a stroke. Two days before we had gone to a wedding and she looked absolutely radiant and was looking healthy again (for someone who was 78).
This was Grandma, a photo taken on 1st December, 2012. Never would have guessed that two days later she would have a massive stroke that would result in the end of her life.
Even now it is difficult for me to think about. The day before she had her stroke, my mother, my grandmother and I decided to go to Bingo - something that she absolutely loved to do (something I wish I did more with her). She even won $480 dollars that day.
My grandmother had a signature dish 'Macaroni with Chop-meat' (I'm sure someone you know has a signature dish, and you know just how special it is).
A few hours before her stroke, she had made this signature dish (for the last time), and when my mother and I ate it, we couldn't help but notice that it seemed to be the best she had ever made it. We were so enamored with how great it tasted we even got on to the subject of how she when about making it (something I regret not paying more attention too in the past).
It all seems so unreal, and looking back, I realize just how perfect those last few days were, and just how lucky my family and I were able to spend those days with her without regret.
She died on 14th December 2012, although I mistakenly think sometimes she died on 3rd December 2012 - because after her stroke it was as if she was already gone, already taken from us without warning.
Here is the last picture we have of her, holding a teddy bear that my brother gave to her, taken on the 9th December 2012:
Not a single day has gone by that I don't think about my grandmother. Even a year later I still think about her and it brings me to tears. I wish so badly that I could have said I love you one more time.
Even though I told her everyday I loved her - it seems no matter how many times you tell someone you love them, it's never enough. No matter how much time you spend with someone, it's never enough.
There's never enough time, not enough minutes, hours, days or months in a year - not enough years in our lives.
I'm starting to feel as though I'm never going to amount to anything. Ever since the passing of my grandmother (and even before that) I had started to feel really down on myself, and that feeling isn't going away. I can't seem to get a handle on anything in my life anymore. Not my weight, not my job (which I'm losing on the 13th of December) not my school (I'm doing awful this semester), nothing. I feel very blank inside, sort of like a white piece of paper, stuck between the pages of colourful sketch book. Where everyone around me seems to be happy and accomplishing things in there lives, I seem to have been skipped over, and forgotten.
Today the only thing I can think about is my grandmother, and how much I truly miss seeing her everyday.
Sometimes the only thing keeping me going is the thought that my grandmother is around, somewhere, in spirit or in memory she's still around. For now all I have is the memory of her love - and hopefully that will be enough to pull me through whatever is in my head I can't seem to overcome.
The Holiday Season Has Begun
Basically I've already started eating like a maniac.
However I attended a Frank Turner concert on Wednesday night in which I went completely and madly wild, so I probably burned about 2000 calories (My body is quite sore). But before the concert I shared a McDonald's meal with a friend because I was starving....
But I currently weigh about 183 lbs.
Which means: I HAVE LOST 5.5 LBS!
Only 4.5 more to go, hopefully I can do it. Since Thursday I've been eating too much bad stuff.
I didn't eat at all on Thursday until Thanksgiving dinner, and then I had two plates and my stomach hurt SO BAD.
But then an hour later, I continued to eat dessert (cannoli, cheeseckae)
Same thing happened yesterday (Friday).
And this morning, I've already had a chocolate cannoli. So I really need to get back on track.
I didn't put any sugar in my coffee, so hopefully that will help keep me in line today.

Week in Review
Wednesday:
For breakfast I had a bowl of fruit and half a spinach and swiss cheese omelette. For lunch I had a chicken salad with caesar dressing on the side and an apple. For dinner I had grilled chicken with stuffing. My mom cooked it, and it was yummy (not sure how healthy it really was tho).
Thursday:
For breakfast I had a hazelnut coffee with nonfat milk and splenda (it was gross) I've since decided from now on to only drink my coffee black, if at all. For lunch I had a whole wheat burrito with spanish rice, chicken, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream and shredded cheese. For dinner I had a spicy chicken salad from Wendy's.
Friday:
I had black coffee for breakfast, then I came home from class to get my debit card because I wanted to get lunch. But when I got home instead I had a lean cuisine. Some awful asian dish with water chesnuts in it. For dinner I had a grilled chicken sub on whole grain oat bread with provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, black olive, cucumber, onion and red wine vinegar.
Then I had a cake pop at night. My friends were making them so I couldn't resist. But it was small so I'm not worried about it.
Today I've been craving tropical smoothie all effing morning. I just want a smoothie and a wrap so bad, but instead I had a lean cuisine again. It was okay but not as good as tropical smoothie.
I'm trying to practice some self-control.
I've lost 3.5 lbs so far. Currently I am at 185 lbs. Only 19 more days to lose another 6.5 lbs.
Let's hope I can keep this up, I'm trying to exercise a bit more self control.
The Monday - Tuesday Hurdle
Okay so a quick recap of food for the past two days:
Monday: Dunkin' Donuts Iced Hazelnut Coffee for breakfast; Chicken Caesar Salad with dressing on the side, french onion soup and an apple for lunch. For dinner I had a 12 inch turkey breast and black forest ham sandwich with lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber, black olive, and lite mayo (I asked for balsamic vinaigrette but they didn't have it).
Tuesday: Nothing for breakfast. For lunch I had chicken tempura, with 4 pieces of sushi (crab-meat and rice), miso soup and a green salad. For dinner I had a grande skinny, non-fat, no whipcream, caramel brulee latte from Starbucks.
I know what you're thinking, coffee can't be considered a meal, and it's definitely not healthy to be skipping meals. But what I'd like to point out is that today (Tuesday) I wasn't very hungry until lunch time and then I haven't been hungry since. The meal was quite large and I didn't want to over do it by eating something for dinner.
Also on Monday, I really needed coffee, but I opted for an Iced Drink to displace some of the milk (hopefully resulting in less calories).
I still feel as though I am making more consious decisions and even though I'm making only slight changes to my eating habits I have been feeling empowered.
For instance today I woke up at 6 AM to complete an assignment that I was too tired to finish last night. Normally I would have slept through that alarm and not finished the assignment and would try to scramble to finish it at some point right before class.
However, I was able to get up within five minutes and start immediately working on the assignment.
I feel as though I am gaining some dedication I have been lacking in the past few months.
I still want to make even better decisions in terms of my eating, but everyday is a struggle in of itself.
Writing about the small changes definitely helps. It gives me a second to focus on all the positive changes I've made all the while pointing at the poor choices I made and I can take a second to think how I could have made a better choice. This gives me a plan of attack so that next time when I want a Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee for breakfast I'll ask for non-fat milk and no sugar.
On the bright side, I've seemed to be able to stave off at least one pound.
Weekend Struggle Becomes Weekend Success
I was able to resist Dunkin' Donuts.
Today at 9:30 at night my brother and his girl friend (both skinny bitches) wanted to go to D & D tonight. I said I would come and when I got there I was able to resist getting anything fattening and instead I got an unsweetened iced tea. (They all got donuts and sugary coffee's).
I am so proud of myself. I was able to show some element of self restraint.
For breakfast I had black coffee with ice (no sugar or milk). For lunch I had a chicken wrap with caesar dressing on the side (only had about 1/3rd of it) and a strawberry and pomegranate with whey protein. And for dinner I had 2 slices of chicken cutlets with rice.
I feel good today. I hope I can continue resisting poor choices and begin to make better choices.
It's the start of a good week (I think).
The Weekend Struggle
So yesterday wasn't terrible I'd say.
I am making more conscious decisions and also I am more consciously aware of my poor decisions.
Recognizing the fact that I have no self control is helping me to gain some self control.
Yesterday I spent time with my best friends family and we had pizza and dessert to celebrate an anniversary. I couldn't control myself around the pizza, and I had 2 slices.
I really wanted soda but instead I opted for water...it was tough but I made it through haha.
I stopped myself at two slices of pizza and tried to steer clear of dessert. There were cookies, donuts and cake. I was able to manage only eating a small slice of the cake (it was reese's flavored I couldn't resist!)
After dinner and dessert we went back to my friends house, who earlier in the day baked some holiday cookies.
When offered some cookies, I said No. I am proud of my self for being able to say no.
For breakfast I had 1 cup of Raisin Bran with Milk. For lunch I had a strawberry and pomegranate + Whey Protein smoothie, with a chicken caesar wrap (I should have asked for different dressing, or at least on the side) and for dinner I had pizza and cake.
I've also decided that this week I'm going to challenge myself to wake up a bit earlier to do some basic exercises, just a routine of squats, push ups and sit ups.
Hopefully I will be able to stick to it.
Goal of the Week (17th, November 2013)
Squats (Sq), Push Ups (Pu), Sit Ups (Su) - 6:30 AM
17 November: 30 x 30 x 30
18 November: 40 x 40 x 40
19 November: 50 x 50 x 50
20 November: 55 x 55 x 55
21 November: 55 x 55 x 55
22 November: 60 x 60 x 60

JOKE STATUS
LOL okay so remember on Thursday when I went to the gym?
Haha guess what I had for dinner that night??
A #6 Meal from... McDonald's! It was a grilled chicken sandwich with fries and a soda. MY LIFE IS A JOKE.
I went there and I was going to get a salad because I was too tired to make myself one and they had NO MORE SALAD'S, so like what's a boy to do? Instead of saying okay and leaving I decided that was a sign to get a full fledged artery clogging meal.
So yesterday (Friday the 15th) I had coffee for breakfast, then a slice of cake at work for my boss's birthday. Then for lunch I had a footlong Turkey Breast and Blackforest Ham sandwich with tomato, lettuce, onion, cucumber and balsamic vinaigrette from Subway. For dinner I had two hard tacos, and a cheesy gordita crunch and nachos and cheese from Taco Bell.
So again, I lack all self control. I'm too lazy to make anything for myself and plan ahead. I have the time just not the will. The truth is I really just don't know what to make. My parents by all the food in the house but it's never really anything that I can prepare and then bring to work and stuff. And they don't buy as much anymore because none of us are ever home.
I tell myself that I can't afford to go out and buy food, but I spend so much money on fast food every week that I'm sure I could afford going out food shopping for myself.
Guess I better start working on that and getting my act together...I've made no headway in losing 10 pounds.
This is going to be a lot harder than I thought.
Proud
Just got back from the gym.
I'm new to this gym so it was my first time. I made a bee line to the cardio section because that's about all I am comfortable with at the moment.
It wasn't the best of work outs. I did 18 Minutes on the elliptical which amounted to 1.5 Miles - don't know how many calories I burned I forgot to check.
After that I did some planks, push ups and sit ups.
All and all I'm not focused on how good or bad my workout was, I'm just glad I made it to the gym for the first time in about 2 1/2 years.
For lunch I had a wrap on flax seed bread, with turkey meat, spinach leaves, hummus, balsamic vinaigrette and a sprinkling of mozzarella cheese.
Next time I get to the gym I'm going to be prepared with a work out, and also remember to stretch.
Feeling much better about myself than this morning.
Constant Failure
So yesterday I was doing great.
Breakfast: A fiber bar and a celery stick. (I woke up late no time to make anything)
Snack: None
Lunch: Grilled Chicken Salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette
Snack(s): Steamed broccoli and shrimp; Apple Slices
I was doing awesome, I was so proud of myself and then here's where I screwed up really bad:
Dinner: 4 Slices of breaded chicken cutlets. 4 Pierogi... 2 Brownies, 2 Cookies and a Vanilla Latte (no sugar).
However I did turn down a klondike bar. So I am proud of myself for that. But I am highly disappointed in myself for not being able to control myself at dinner time.
And I don't even know why that is. I wasn't starving or anything, it's just... after I had 2 slices of chicken and 2 pierogi, I was really craving more and I didn't know how to stop myself.
While I was eating them I was like "That's it! You're done. No More." and I think I would've have been okay. But then they brought out the brownies and the cookies and I lost all self control.
I guess that's what I really lack. I have absolutely no self control. I do what I want, when I want and that needs to stop.
I can't keep letting myself get away with this. Although I really have no one to hold me accountable other than myself...I do a really poor job of holding myself accountable for anything, really.
I also never went to the gym yesterday.
So far I've had a cup of raisin bran and 1/3 cup of milk and a celery stick.
I really have no excuse to not go to the gym today. I overslept and didn't go to class and I don't have to be at work until 2. So I think I'm going to head on over there now.
Here's to hoping that today will be a better day.
Cupcake Wars
So I think today was successful.
Breakfast: 4 Morning Star Turkey Patties, with a slice of provolone cheese and spinach.
Snack: Grande, skinny, nonfat caramel bruleé latte (forgot to ask for no whip cream)
Lunch: Eggs and spinach, cup of fruit (apple slices, orange pieces, and grapes)
Dinner: Garden Salad with Light raspberry vinaigrette
Snack: Sampling of cupcakes for Cupcake Wars at my University
Okay so everything I had today was okay I think except for the whip cream and the cupcakes.
However I only sampled 9 cupcakes and took a very minuscule bit from each so I hardly think it will have any affect on me at all.
Besides the latte, I also only had water to drink.
I keep telling myself I know I can make good decisions. I'm going to attempt getting to the gym tomorrow - but I do have a busy day not sure if I'll be able to go.
But I will try!
Starting Over
For the past few months of my life I've been defeated.
I lost someone very close to me in December 2012. It's been rough without this person around the house, and I don't think I've stopped thinking about this person even for a moment. Well it's been almost a year now, and I've suffered mentally and physically and I can't allow the suffering to go on any longer.
I've always been an emotional eater and since December of last year it's gotten to the point where I've noticed a negative change in my health.
I have a hard time remembering things. I can't seem to motivate myself to do anything (as I sit behind this keyboard there is a piece of me telling me I won't commit to this blog). I tried to do a small work out today and I was out of breath in only a couple of minutes.
Everyday is a battle of what should I eat. I try to stick to goals like, drinking only water, or no fast food - but something comes over me and I convince myself that it's okay to eat the fast food, or to drink something that isn't water. I rationalize it by saying oh well I'll give it up starting tomorrow or I'll go to the gym.
It's affecting my attitude as well. I don't want to do anything, I hate engaging in activities, and most of all I'm starting to hate being around myself.
Which is the reason why I've started this blog.
I'm going to achieve one goal at a time.
I want to lose weight but also be healthy, but trying to learn about exercising and eating right and what not is all too much to handle right now.
So my first goal is going to be to lose 10-lbs. By drinking only water, and making small but more healthy changes to my diet.
I am currently 5 ft. 8 in. and weigh approximately 188.5 lbs that's about 20 more than I weighed a year ago.
I will do my best. I will start tracking tomorrow 12 November 2013 and try to make weekly entries tracking my progress until 12 December 2013.
I hope I can do this.
