chapter 4: i watched you
you were up all night on the phone with f/n talking about how she was doing in hyogo, and how you made friends with denki. she said you seemed “too excited to tell her about him.” you tried to act like you didn’t know what she was talking about, but you knew. the only reason you denied it was because you didn’t want to get your hopes up for a bunch of nothing.
you woke up around 1 in the afternoon and did your daily morning routine. once you finished, you walked downstairs and saw your parents put a note on the refrigerator saying they would be gone for the day, and they sent money to your account to buy something to eat.
as you read the note, you jumped up and down in excitement, you planned on just sitting in the living room and watching an entire marathon of your favorite tv shows and eating a bunch of snacks all day long. you walked outside and checked the weather, and even better, it was going to rain today. nothing was better than being home alone, eating pizza, and watching your favorite show all day long.
or maybe, you could throw a small house party! you ran upstairs to go get your phone and texted the school group chat to see if anyone could come to your house.
bakusquad 😏👅
you: does anyone wanna come to my house for a little summer get-together?
minagirll: omg yes!!
sero: yeah we can!
bakugou thumbed up your message.
kirishima: sounds awesome! i’m in
you: greatt, ill send my address
you: come around 3 and you guys can leave at 8 before it starts raining
minagirll and kirishima hearted your message.
you put on a chill outfit—just something to get out of your pajamas. you wore an off-the-shoulder medium grey “washington” shirt and light grey sweatpants.
the house was already clean, so you didn’t have much to do but wait two hours before everyone arrived. while you waited in your bedroom, you checked outside the window to see what denki was doing. to your surprise, you saw him sitting in the tree house just lying down and looking at the cloudy atmosphere.
you opened your window and felt the hot breeze hit your skin as you hopped out of your window and sat next to denki.
“watchaaa doiinnn?” you asked, sitting criss-crossed apple sauce.
“nothing, i just like being outside before it starts raining,” he sighed. “what are you doing?”
“my friends are about to come over since my parents are gone the entire day,” you grinned. “you know what, you should come to! my friends are really chill, and they would definitely like you.” except maybe bakugou. but you weren’t gonna say that.
“yeah sure, my mom is gone too anyway.”
“you might as well just come into my house, and we can chill until they get here,” you offered innocently.
denki smirked and nodded. “yeah let’s go,” he followed behind you as you both climbed back into your window.
once you were both in your room, he checked out the place, seeing how your room was very spacious and comfy looking. his attention was caught away when you grabbed his wrist and took him downstairs. you didn’t think much of it, but thoughts were running through his head.
“okay, so i have party cups and board games, and we can use my parents’ wine cabinet—they don’t drink anyway, nor do i.”
he nodded and helped you pick out some drinks that people might like. “yeah, drinking honestly sucks,” he agreed.
˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗
it was now 7:00pm and everyone was at the get-together. it was super fun and everyone was getting along with denki well. you were all about to play scrabble until someone rang the doorbell. you told mina to open the door and the first thing you heard was mina squeal “e/n!!!”
your head shot over to the front door and saw e/n smiling at mina and everyone else. “who the fuck invited her?” your face scrunched up irritably.
denki was sitting next to you while you were assembling the board game. he turned his head and looked at the girl who you were talking about. “what’s your beef with her?” he asked curiously.
“i didn’t do anything to her, she just doesn’t like me, but literally every time she’s near my friends she wants to act all buddy buddy with me.” you sighed.
“she’s probably jealous. don’t worry, tonight will still be fun, so it’s okay,” he smiled, trying to make you feel better.
“yeah you’re right, i won’t let her get in my head.” you finished setting up the board game while everyone sat down.
while everyone played scrabble, e/n just had to be the one to complain. “this looks lame, why don’t we play a drinking game?” she suggested, holding the wooden tiles in her hands that you passed out.
“now you’re speaking my language!” sero laughed as he went to the kitchen and grabbed the drinks off the counter.
your mouth fell open a little, “so if you guys didn’t want to play, why did you guys let me sit here and set up the whole board game?” you looked at everyone, waiting for a response.
“y/n, it’s fine girl! we can play this after! let’s just play the drinking game first,” mina advised, sliding the board game to the side and placing her tiles back into the bag.
everyone else did the same. once sero sat back down with the drinks, he poured everyone a small cup of vodka and don julio. e/n suggested to play truth or drink, and of course, everyone agreed.
you weren’t a drinker at all, but you didn’t want to ruin the fun. e/n asked you the first question, probably to be a smart ass.
“so y/n,” she said, thinking of a question to ask you, “if you could kiss anyone in this room, who would it be?”
“what kind of question is that?” your eyebrows furrowed. everyone in the room was your friend. i mean the only person you would kiss would be denki, but that would’ve been weird to say. you decided to pick up the red cup and take your sip. it was spicy and nasty, it burned your throat and made your stomach hurt.
“how do you guys drink this shit?” you coughed, drinking down a water bottle you kept next to you.
“okay, my turn. denki,” you faced him and smiled at him. “what was your… longest relationship?”
“4 months,” he replied to your question easily.
the game kept continuing, but you hated it when it landed on e/n to ask the questions. her questions were so seductive and weird.
“okay, denki,” she sat up straight and checked out his toned arms. “you and y/n seem pretty close. have you ever thought about her sexually?”
you and denki both looked at each other, shocked at her question. his eyes shot open. he shook his head no, barely processing the question before she spoke again. “so what about me? do you like me?” she swirled around her cup of vodka and drank it.
“okay! i think this game is over now!” you stood up and put the drinks back into the cabinet.
denki looked in disbelief. he didn’t even know what to say or what to do. he stood up and helped you clean up the stuff, taking another glance at e/n as she winked at him and let out a little laugh.
suddenly, it started thundering outside. thank goodness. “damn, it already started raining an hour early,” kirishima whined, checking the time.
“you guys might wanna leave before it gets worse,” you remarked, walking back into the living room.
everyone stood up and started gathering their belongings. you said bye to everyone, still waiting for e/n to leave. she grabbed a paper and pen out of her pocket and wrote something down. she ripped the paper and walked up to denki and gave it to him.
“here, it’s my number, text me,” she flirted, blowing a kissy face at him and walking out of the house, without saying bye to you.
you sat down and put up the board game that nobody played while trying to see what denki was going to do with the note.
“we can still play the board game if you want to,” he slid the note in his pocket as he sat down next to you.
when you noticed he had put the note in his pocket, your mood had completely shifted. was he keeping the note to text her later? if not, why didn’t he throw it away immediately?
“no it’s fine, i think you should go home,” you scolded him, not making eye contact with him.
he was a little confused at first, but he decided to just comply. “oh. uhm, okay.” he got up and fixed his shirt, “i’ll see you later, yeah?” you didn’t reply. he stood there for a little waiting for your response. once it came clear to him you weren’t going to, it only left him to walk out the house and go back to his.
when you finished cleaning up the living room, you went into your room and turned on the lights in your room. you saw denki walk into his room and lay on his bed. he pulled out the note from his pocket and also pulled out his phone. before you could watch the rest, you closed your curtains, completely annoyed at this point.
e/n just always had to ruin everything for you. you couldn’t even enjoy having a nice, cute boy to yourself with her hoe-ing around all the time.
just then, a loud thunder crashed, followed by lightning that turned off the neighborhood’s power.
you quickly grabbed your lighter from on top of your vanity and lit your candle for some light. you walked downstairs and grabbed a flashlight and turned it on while you went into the basement and turned on the emergency generator.
♬ you then went back to your room and turned on the tv and snuggled into your bed. you played your favorite tv show until you heard a knock on your window. you already knew it was denki, but you didn’t want to be rude and not answer it. you opened your blinds and opened the window.
“uh, my house doesn’t have any power, does yours?” he asked, squinting his eyes as the rain poured over his face.
“yeah, come in quick,” you said as you let him into your house. he climbed into your window and closed it shut.
he stood by the edge of your bed as you sat back in your bed. “are you gonna sit down?” you looked over at him confused.
“oh, yeah.” he sat down on your bed next to you and watched the show you had playing on your tv. you were leaning back on your headboard, when you noticed denki looked stiff, like he was dwelling on saying something.
“y/n? are you like, mad at me or something?” he turned back and asked you. his expression seemed sad, almost making you feel bad about how you treated him earlier.
“well, no,” you started, “but i guess i felt some type of way when you kept e/n’s number.” you looked back over at him.
“i didn’t keep the number. i threw it away after i got into my room. i pulled out my phone just to block the number.” his voice was soft and sincere.
“so you don’t like her?” you clarified, trying not to sound all jealous.
“ew no, she seems creepy and nauseating.” you both laughed. “i like you way better than her,” he added.
“well that’s relieving to hear,” you sighed, cracking a small smile in the corner of your lips.
soon, he felt more comfortable and eventually leaned back against the headboard with you, your body subconsciously clinged closer to him and a warm blanket wrapped over you two.
you both laughed at a funny scene together. “that’s my favorite part,” you said through your laughter.
he looked down at you resting on his shoulder and just…paused. your smile was radiant, the way your eyes lit up from the screen made everything else dim in comparison. his lips curled into a soft smile, but he didn’t say anything at first. just…watched you.
“it’s cute that you light up when you laugh like that,” he murmured, so quietly you almost thought you imagined it.
your breath caught a little. you turned your head slightly enough to look up at him. “really? i’ve actually never noticed that,” you blushed a little.
for a few seconds, neither of you spoke. the show continued playing, but the room felt quieter now, like the world had narrowed down to just the space between your faces. he shifted slightly, his arm tightening around you under the blanket.
“i like being close to you like this,” he uttered, his voice low.
your chest fluttered. “me too.”
his eyes flicked down to your lips, and you saw the moment he debated it—the lean in, the risk, the pause. he tilted his head just slightly. you didn’t move away. when his forehead brushed softly against yours, your eyes fluttered shut. then, slowly, with all the gentleness he could manage, he closed the distance and kissed you.
it wasn’t rushed. it wasn’t obnoxious, just a soft press of lips. warm, tentative, filled with everything unsaid. and when you kissed him back, just as slow, just as sure, his hand slipped up to cup your cheek, and he smiled into it like he’d just found something he’d been looking for.
when you pulled apart, barely an inch between you, both of you were quiet, breathing a little heavier, hearts racing.
“i did not think that was gonna happen,” he let out a shaky but satisfied breath.
“what do you mean?” your heart dropped for a split second.
“i didn’t think you liked me like that for you to let me kiss you,” he replied nervously, “but i really wanna do it again,” he tested the waters hesitantly.
“we can.” you smiled as he placed his hand instinctively on your jawline and kissed you again. this time the kiss was hungrier, almost like the first kiss was a trial, and this one was the real deal. your lips fused together with his perfectly, almost like they were made for this exact moment.
once he pulled back from the kiss, you laid back onto his shoulder. it wasn’t long until both of you accidentally fell asleep in each other’s arms. ♬
˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗
sunlight filtered through the curtains, spilling soft golden light across the room. you woke up, blinking slowly, the weight of the blanket still tangled around you. and then you remembered; the kiss, his hands, his voice saying “i really want to do it again.” your cheeks flushed instantly. denki was still next to you, eyes closed but awake—you could tell by the slight twitch of his smile.
“are you pretending to sleep?” you asked, voice mellow from sleep.
“maybe,” he murmured, eyes opening slowly to meet yours with a smile. “you looked cute and confused, i didn’t want to ruin it.”
you rolled your eyes, but your smile gave you away. “so… about last night.”
he sat up slightly, rubbing the back of his neck. “yeah. i’ve been thinking about that.”
you raised an eyebrow. “in a good way?”
“in a really good way.” he glanced at you. “unless you—do you regret it?”
you shook your head, then looked down at your legs underneath the blanket tangled with his. “so what now?”
he hesitated, then got up off your bed and fixed his hair. “well, i was thinking of taking you out for a date.”
your eyes lit up by his words. “yeah? i’d like that.”
“great, it’s gonna be a nice date. you should put your number in my phone so i can text you.”
you took his phone and put your number in and handed it back to him. you were about to speak until you heard your parents’ car doors close from outside. both of your hearts dropped as you both quickly got up,, and you opened the window for denki. he jumped out the window and pressed a soft kiss on your cheek, “see you later princess.” he grinned before hopping back into his window.
“later perv,” you snarled back.
