New Orleans is a beautiful city home to many folks. Old and young, rich and poor, black and white. Everyone stuck to their lane, existing separately yet equally in the same bustling city. Or so was supposed to be so.

Wendy never fit in any lane from the moment she came to Louisiana. A white girl adopted and raised by black parents. An awkward dame who preferred the company of books and nature over people. Who preferred to hide from the world around her rather than change for it.

Before Wendy ever spoke to him, Alastor was already a quiet fixture in her life. Every morning, she woke to the sound of his radio show, his warm, velvety voice cutting through the static and making her feel as though he was speaking directly to her.

Every Saturday, Wendy would come by the radio station and drop off a bouquet just for Mr. Hartfelt. Praying that somehow their paths would cross.

One Saturday, as Wendy approaches the station like always, lost in her thoughts and nerves, she accidentally collides with someone and falls, only to realize, to her shock, that she has quite literally run into Alastor himself.

Alastor, recognizing her as the mysterious “flower girl,” is immediately intrigued by her awkward sincerity.

In 2023, the American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom found that challenges of unique titles surged 65%, reaching the highest level ever documented by the ALA. Over 4,000 unique book titles were targeted for censorship, with titles representing the voices and lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC individuals comprising 47% of those attempts.
