In your opinion, who is Jason Todd and what should he be?
most importantly to me he is a kid, whether we're talking about pre-death or post-resurrection jason. he is a kid who adored his parents and adored bruce and whose primary mode of functioning was caring: caring about the people in his life, caring about the people outside of his life, caring about learning, caring about others' misconceptions of him, caring about seeking justice. someone empathetic to a fault, much in the same way as bruce, if with a different set of reactions to go with it. bruce receded into himself the more overwhelmed he was with emotion while jason let all of his cards show on the table. he died bc of that empathy, and for whatever misguided path he tries to take to closure when he's come back from the dead, he should recede from it and forge a new one bc of that empathy. he should remember that his father was also one of those cogs in the chain, working as a lackey within a corrupt system that was much too large for him to contest. he should remember that he used to care about the people he wanted to save once, that he knew their names and grieved for them. he should remember that he always had a capacity for good, and that base violence need not guide his life in the long term. he should remember that he used to want to go to school and participate in theater and he enjoyed writing history reports. he should remember that losing his life need not mean that it no longer holds worth or is no longer worth pursuing in earnest. he should remember that there are as many ways to save gotham through caring as there are through rage, and the first method might help him as much as it helps others. he should remember that he is a kid, nineteen years old, barely an adult taking upon the heaviest burdens of the world. he should remember that he deserves to live
