here's ur reminder that axolotl is NOT pronounced like "ak-suh-laa-tl" (or lot-ul), it is in fact a nahuatl word (that most commonly translates to "water dog" actually, very cute!) and is pronounced "ah-SHOW-lowtch" !!!!
i think abt this every time i see a post abt axolotls coz i just know there r so many ppl mispronouncing it and the thought bothers me. if ppl, esp white ppl, reblogged this to spread the word to those who may not be aware, i'd be very grateful. thank u!!

Saying that man and woman are the only genders is actually LESSÂ nuanced than saying that earth, water, air, and fire are the only elements.
Put in the tags how old you were when you got your first smartphone. If comfortable and if you're an adult, put your current age as well.

a child with an undiagnosed mental illness: I think I need help. I struggle with things nobody else seems to be struggling with.
a parent who never got diagnosed for the exact same mental illness: Oh sweetie. EVERYONE struggles with that :)
"Stop scrolling and please help me spread the word, because if I've landed on your page you're most likely either a black woman or someone who cares about black women and the simple phrase I'm about to share could help save a black woman's life.
Doctors are to black women what police officers are to black men. That may seem controversial but I believe it to be true and I speak from personal experience.
If you've seen this TikTok you know that a 2016 study showed that 50% of medical students and residents thought that black people couldn't feel pain the same as white people.
And we learned from this video that because of a 1999 study, to this day, there's a black correction factor for the creatinin levels in black people's kidneys, meaning we're less likely to recieve a kidney transplant if needed.
So if you go to a doctor, feel you aren't getting proper treatment or they refuse the treatment you've requested, say to them the following:
I will need you to document on record that you are refusing the treatment (or medicine) I've requested, and the reason you are doing so."
This works. I have used it in other situations. If medical staff have to document and take responsibility and be on the hook legally for doing shady shit they behave much differently.
If you werenât already going to spread this advice because black women are at risk, then spread it because itâs applicable to everyone else as well, including you reading this.
But particularly women, and especially black women.
If you know who Emmett Till is please reblog.
Iâm trying to prove a point to my dad.
I can definitely see why Max was the troubled kid when they came out of their pods. His early childhood looks... not great.

I cannot get over the skill required here. He has to be able to tell EXACTLY how far apart those sticks are just by holding them between his fingers. He has to generate enough force to make a soundâwhile HOLDING THEM BETWEEN HIS FINGERS. He is playing FOUR. FOUR sticks. Thatâs FOUR different sticks, hitting at DIFFERENT times, at space intervals heâs determining by the feel IN HIS FINGERS because he canât look at all of them at once. And half the time heâs not looking at ANY because heâs smiling at the camera. He twirls and jumps right back in without missing a beat. Heâs relaxed. Heâs charming.Â
HE. IS. A. MUSIC. GOD.Â
his joy made me smile and now iâm all warm and fuzzy.

every day i am percievedâ˘ď¸
There is a reason for this though!
The original tweet summarizes it pretty well. Fanfic tends to be popular among certain types of neurodivergent people (aka people most likely to read excessively as a child, and have burnout as an adult) for the same reasons that we tend to hyperfixateâneurochemical signaling (I hope Iâm using that phrase correctly). What I mean is, for people who are really dependent on changes in dopamine/serotonin/neurotransmitter levels, who have low levels or wonky neural reward systems (perhaps the most common types of neurodivergence)âŚpeople like us rely on dependable external sources of those neurochemicals. In order to function, we spend a lot of our free time trying to level out our brain chemistry using things that can reliably bring us a steady stream of joyful moments (rewards) without costing too much of the mental effort that is already in short supply.Â
significantly:Â the investment of reading has to be balanced with a steady âreturn on investmentââand this return has to start fairly quickly. because again, we donât have a lot of attention/energy to invest on tiring things. we have perpetual âlow batteriesâ in that regard.
that doesnât mean these stories are âsimple,â or that they lack complexity or valueâonly that the reward has to come in short regular intervals, and it has to have a low âupfront cost.â these stories are only âeasyâ to read in the sense that the effort we put into them is rewarded in a timely manner. which is why fanfic stories are so perfectly formulated for neurodivergent readersâthey are often beautifully written, but skip a lot of the upfront costs (of introducing new characters, of world-building, of getting the audience emotionally connected to the story elements).
the nature of fanfiction is that the reader has a pre-existing relationship with this world and these characters. thatâcombined with the shorter average length of ficsâmeans that fan fics very quickly start rewarding the reader in a way that traditional fiction struggles to. thatâs not a bad thing! and maybe itâs something more traditionally published writers should be paying attention to.
Fanfic, as a genre, has been uniquely helpful and accessible to many neurodivergent readers who would otherwise struggle to immerse themselves in stories. Iâm glad so many of you have found a way to love and enjoy reading again! The important thing is that you are spending time inside stories you loveâthe way those stories are published or presented to the world is just one detail. The fact that you find joy in the process of reading (or listening!) to storiesâthat is what matters.
I feel understood đĽ°
a bunch of people have reblogged this with the default âi feel called outâ reactionâŚ.and i know when we say that we mean it tongue-in-cheekâŚ.but this comment sorta blew my mind & shifted my perspective up and to the left a little thank youâĽ
yo if youâre a cis girl or afab and femme presenting and youâd be comfortable with having a trans girl roommate, please reblog this. i just need reinforcement that there are girls out there who wouldnât be disgusted by a girl like me.

âRace and racism is a reality that so many of us grow up learning to just deal with. But if we ever hope to move past it, it canât just be on people of color to deal with it. Itâs up to all of us â Black, white, everyone â no matter how well-meaning we think we might be, to do the honest, uncomfortable work of rooting it out. It starts with self-examination and listening to those whose lives are different from our own. It ends with justice, compassion, and empathy that manifests in our lives and on our streets.â â Michelle Obama
I feel like that prequel takes something really neat like trigedasleng and makes it less interesting. I worry that other things (like the clans) would also be made less interesting. A language that evolves from English out of a need to keep secrets from enemies is way cooler than one made up by a 10 year old girl, even if she uses it for the same purpose.
