all i want for 2026 is that gigantic rancid AI bubble to finally burst in such a catastrophic way that the consequences will be so good and i'll never have to see another AI generated image ever again
Seeing people I know and like using AI is making me understand the protagonists of those old time sci fi dystopia's.
"Oh I don't normally use AI, I just wanted it to plan my trip"
You lived on this planet for decades, you know what you like, there are hundreds of websites where you can type into any search engine " things to do in [area]" and have at least a hundred different options.
"Oh I only use it so I can figure out what to make during the week with what I have"
The most popular website as you type in "recipes" into google have sections where you click dinner- quick and easy and those usually rely on staples + 1 or 2 items. I found 30 recipes on chicken alone.
"I had a writing idea, so I typed a few sentences into Chat GPT and I was able to write 20 pages with it."

sakuras face in the early parts of the chapter, he's so heartbroken and lost..... it's actually devastating.... he's so upset....
devastating shot of the gifts suo was there for and his own gift. no wonder sakura can't even leave his bed, suo was part of his life everywhere.
third gut punch.... because that's exactly how sakura viewed all the connections in furin. it's not quite the best way to describe it but once he had them he sort of took them for granted? he's never had human connections bestowed and then taken away, he probably didn't even register it as an option at this point. a lot of these recent chapters have been establishing how integral suo was as a part of sakuras life - how much he meant to sakura.
the wording in this is diabolical, because it's so personal to sakura. "he just left me" "strings connected suo and me" "if only i could crawl closer"
sakura isn't viewing this as suo leaving furin, he's viewing it as suo abandoning him. that the person who established himself as a rock and confidant left him behind. sakura is taking this extremely personally and it's probably this exact reaction that suo knew would happen if he said goodbye in person to him.
the one thing sakura fears the most out of this situation is finding that sakuras investment in their relationship is one sided, something he imagined despite the supreme comfort he found in it. the blurry thought of suo with his back to him, showcasing this. suo walking away from him and not looking back.
and the thing he feared most was exactly what suo threw at nirei (after failing to brush him off easily). it's kind of interesting to me that nirei was obviously chosen for a reason. suo didn't have to say goodbye, especially not in person. he could've left without a word ( or even given a good excuse like family issues or theyre moving or smth, but he wouldn't do that because he hates lying directly) but instead of all people he chooses nirei to say goodbye to. i think he chose nirei for a reason, and that he wanted to say goodbye to someone. it's clear that he didn't want to leave and i think saying goodbye was him drawing out the last bits of contact he could get before he had to leave for good. a breadcrumb trail of connections that he tries to deny. nireis reaction of pushing and searching for the truth because he knows suo isn't telling it, is probably not what he thought he wanted (an easy break where nirei maybe agrees that they're not very close and suo can just leave) but what he needed, a confirmation that he's cared for in furin. but sakura wouldn't have been able to see past the first layer, because it would be the confirmation of his worst fears (and suos too). not sure if i got my point across but i digress.
this is the most important panel of the chapter imo. because it's stating outright that yeah sakura cares greatly about suo, and then the key panel being that image of suo, who before in sakuras fears was turned away. but with momojikawas words he can see what he's always seen in suo. someone facing him, with a gentle expression of care. because the truth is, past the fears, they both care for each other and at the end of the arc i think they'll finally be able to face each other fully.
and here sakura is remembering the care and everytime suo has shown it, everytime he's been genuine in his words and been there for sakura in action.
and he starts to move on from wallowing to moving forward to start looking for answers.
i'm interested to see what sugishita has to say, i don't think i have any clue what he wants to tell sakura or what angle he might be coming from. it might be more motivation or it might be information or any other thing.
but either way i can't wait for next week, thanks for reading, im sure this is half incoherent so good job for sticking around this long lol.
Literally begging people to engage with media in a way that isn’t “strip layered characters into a one-size-fits-all babie personality that’s basically just the phrase ‘appley juice :3’ as a personality”
I don’t know how many times I have to say this but if you smooth away at every rough edge that makes a well written character interesting you’re always going to end up with the same smooth sphere. And if you’re only comfortable playing around with that sphere then either you never liked the original all that much or you should probably have a long think about how you consume with media and why this is the only way you seem able to do so
“Why don’t you use ai” idk man beyond the obvious environmental and “this machine causes psychosis and encourages people to kill themselves” thing I think asking the equivalent of a solid D student who is also a pathological liar if they can answer my question/do the work for me seems pretty fucking stupid

chp 218 and 219 discussion! spoilers below the cut!
pretty slow couple of chapters for now, but i think it's needed as we get a better look at how sakura is dealing with it all.
first off i owe apologies to umemiya, i was not familiar with ur game mb mb, sorry for thinking ud outright ditch suo and any rescue attempts.
next omg sakuras face in these last 2 chapters has been heart wrenching, he's so lost and upset. and like of course he is!! he's never had proper connections before so this is his first time losing one and in such a horrible way too, poor guy. he's really going through it and i don't blame him....
i have a bit more to say abt chapter 219, and uh that dream sequence huh?
the start where even in his dreams suo isn't smiling is interesting to me, since youd think it would show suo in his default smiling face but he actually looks kinda sad, i wonder if sakura subconsciously knows that this isn't what suo would choose if he had a proper choice.
but like wdym for suo you've always what????
as a shipper man that was smth lol but in just a general context it's probably smth to do with him looking up to suo. i'm hoping the arc will focus on how suo seems to have been forced to mature really quickly and make himself a pillar in both furin and the red chanpuru and maybe everyone's expectations on him.
but otherwise general consensus seems to be that the flowers are chinese redbuds, suos name sake and it's interesting to me that it's both what ties him to suo but also ties him down. a connection and a hindrance all in one. this whole scene is full of symbolism and i wonder if we'll get smth similar for suo on his end or perhaps a continuation.... and like the flowers being on his right hand, suo being his right hand man but also now it's become stuck, a hindrance and not a help, it's a great representation of how sakura feels like he's lost ability and agency with such an out of the blue loss. with suo gone sakura feels like he's unable to be at his best and clearly he had some kind of stronger thoughts about suo than just his usual introspection of "he pisses me off but he's chill when it counts". it'll be interesting to see what sakura really thinks about suo deep down, especially as we and the characters learn more about suos situation and position in the red chanpuru.
also lmao what a trio, smug, earnest and anger go to the cats house. momijikawa is def an important outlook as mostly an outsider to the situation since he doesn't really know suo very well and can help give more objective opinions once they start getting into it. i imagine next week will start getting into the tough conversations as they start to decide how they're feeling and what they want to do. but im def excited for whatever is next!!!
cant wait for the next chapter, hope u all had a great day!
wbk chapter 217: the cosmopolitan city spoilers!!!
looking at both the new chapter and some theories on how the arc is gonna go!
slower paced chapter this time but lots of information inside!! we go back to suo from where we left off with furin before - without a resolution on what happened at the meeting (though i'll put my 2 cents in about what i think happened there later) and there is lots to say!
first off is - suo being multilingual fully confirmed! from what i can tell he's speaking chinese (probably mandarin but maybe another dialect but i don't know enough to tell), vietnamese and korean here. he also speaks english with rakta and bacchus later. interesting to note that being a polyglot isn't uncommon in the red chanpuru as stated later by rakta. but also interesting that he seems to know the most out of the three members here, or at the very least rakta doesn't know viet and korean. says a lot about how he was raised if he knows so many so well. i also want to point out that he knows all these citizens by name! it's later confirmed in the chapter that suo was making the commute to makochi every day and was in fact living in bankoku-kai while going to furin so even while being part of bofurin it seems he was engaging with his local community and probably working for the red chanpuru as well.
the chapter then moves to a place called the red vortex and it seems to be where suo grew up and may still live. the kids here are seem to be being trained in the same mixed martial arts style as suo but it's kind of odd that there's no adult supervising or even a older kid. all of the boys (and this i'll come back to) are younger than 15 and seemingly teaching themselves, which is odd? i did karate for a time and then fencing at a slightly bigger club and it's really common for the older kids to help out teaching classes (i did assistant coaching for a little while) but it doesn't seem like that's happening here - probably because all the kids older than 15 have gone into the red chanpuru.
this is a sentiment that suo doesn't seem very happy about, he moves to his favourite deflect and redirect in conversation technique to steer away from the topic of joining and its seeming more and more likely to me that there's probably internal problems inside the red chanpuru that suo is trying to solve.
mostly a side note but an interesting reaction when caught being rude and snappy to a superior in age and station. suo brushes it off easily and it's a reaction that could be taken as just embarrassment and maybe a little upset at saying the wrong thing to the wrong person but given that he also calls him sir right after, it seems like the hierarchy is really strict here and there might've even been times when discipline has been handed out for being rude though not likely from suo himself.
now this is where i'd like to talk a bit more. i mentioned before that it's only boys training, i didn't realise at first given that their kids and all the long hair was tied back but in the line up its pretty clear that yeah all the kids learning to fight are boys. the girls are kept out of the way watching and seem to not be allowed to learn. rakta and bacchus' reactions to the girls is pretty telling too, those aren't guilty looks theyre sporting - they don't feel like it's wrong for the girls to be excluded and if anything they seem annoyed that they're calling out to suo to say hi. now im not saying that this is be-all end-all misogyny but given the grace and care nii-sensei puts into the female characters of windbreaker im sure there will be more exploration into this. its not to say there's anything inherently wrong with an all boys gang, bofurin is an all boys gang, primarily because it's based out of an all boys school. but its interesting to see that an organisation based in a multicultural city still draws lines for oppression in different areas.
it's looking like there are a lot of internal issues inside the red chanpuru and maybe even the city itself and i wonder if part of the arc and conflict is tradition versus equity and an evolution/modernity of culture.
perhaps its not that deep but as a girl its always a bit personal to see things like this. but it's hopeful for me to see suos reaction being a kind one to the girls and their genuine joy in interacting with him.
moving on we see the chef, the first adult of the red chanpuru associated characters we've seen so far. (i'm thinking rakta and bacchus are around 17-18 like roppo-ichiza and the furin 3rd years are). we also see what are almost definitely kids in poverty, notably lacking adults with them from what we can see. though parents of the kids are mentioned it's clear they've been sent to get food while the parents presumably go without and this is a common occurrence. this says a pretty big amount about the state of the city and hints more towards issue within red chanpuru and the city itself.
this conversation corroborates that. the chef says more kids have been coming and business isn't that great, more importantly suo - an officer and some one who can represent the red chanpuru somewhat - apologises to the chef which makes me think there's definitely someone off about the red chanpuru. there also the reaction to saying thing will get better, suos buddies look pretty annoyed and incredulous to this remark, while suo only looks sad and a little guilty. it's made clear later that bacchus at least thinks the chef is ignorant and naive and there's clearly a coverup of some sort going on that's the root of the issues popping up and likely the reason suo had to leave.
yeah definitely something going on here...
and then this heartbreaking panel, sakura you don't deserve all this suffering...... god take his suffering and give it to endo fr
but yeah back to what i said at the start, i think the conversation at furin ended with umemiya barring them from going after suo. it's been established before that sakura and ume have very differing directions to leadership. while some of umes ideals are things that sakura wants to emulate it's also shown that there are conflicts in how they deal with problems and their thought process doing so.
umemiya is shown to be a bit of a monolith when leading, he's makochis big brother and he wants to protect his family but this leads him to be single minded and not reach out for help.
umemiya's priority is the people of makochi and protecting them and while sakuras priority is also this he approaches it differently.
windbreaker is about sakura, he's the main character and the narrative is about him. and windbreaker is specifically about his growth and how he learns to trust and grow along side others when he was isolated for most of his life.
and his growth has been showing! he was the one to contact their allies for the extinction war and learn how to fight with others. the majority of his growth so far has been teaching him about making and using connections either others, learning to rely on and help people in the community and that's exactly how he leads. unlike umemiya who wants to protect as a singular force, sakura protects as a collective as he learns to trust others abilities. umemiya made furin because he knows he can't do it by himself but in the end he will always try to do it by himself . sakura has learnt to bring people together and that's how he wants to lead, leaving no man behind.
but umemiyas priority isn't the unity of furin and makochi though it is important to him but more their safety. i think umemiya when hearing about red chanpuru and suos position as officer (not leader im not sure where people got that idea from?) is that it would be too much of a risk and that he would have to cut losses. and this is where they clash, sakura doesn't want to leave anyone behind and would resist against it. and i think he'll have a following along with him. i'm sure the kings will take umes side, they sympathise with sakura but if red chanpuru really is stronger and suo is a member they don't have a leg to stand on in interference for one kid.
but sakura sure isn't going to take that lying down. he seems miserable and someone pointed out that he didn't hang up his clothes, something he made sure to do even when sick, and it might be because he feels horrible but it might also be because he feels slightly disillusioned with furin.
so far windbreaker has been about sakura learning to connect and trust people, and now i think he'll learn how to deal with betrayal and conflict when it comes to people you care about. he's finally healed from his wounds before and now he's going to learn to stitch up new ones.
i think red chanpuru is going through some kind of civil war, maybe factions have split and i also think that they might have closed off the the city, which is why suo had to leave. i'll probably do a more in depth post on what i think the arc will look like later (like i mentioned before but still haven't done... whoopsie) since this is really long but yeah
anyways great chapter and i'm super excited for next week! sorry for any typos or incoherency there's a heatwave in the uk rn and im melting, have a great day and thanks for reading if u got this far!

the human body is an engineering marvel. I sneeze in bright light. if I dont get enough sunlight on my skin I get tired and sad and have to drink a lot of milk to fix it. standing too much hurts, but sitting too much also hurts. if I get a virus, my body will increase its temperature in an attempt to cook it, which also cooks my brain cells. toenails exist. I have to turn the radio down to see better when I drive. there are 17 genes dictating what my hair texture is, but it completely changes when the air is too humid. yawning is contagious. there are more species of bacteria living in my body than there are species of birds in the entire world. every few months I grievously injure my neck by "sleeping on it weird." it took seven million years of human evolution to form me, and now I'm afraid of phone calls.
