Some angel doodles to fight off art block
Fav fun facts I learned about the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe recently:
Under blacklight, the image shows no indication of either underpainting/drawing or even brushstrokes, suggesting the image came about all at once.
The image itself is iridescent.
The image is not actually on the tilma- the image 'hovers' about .3 mm above the fabric. This was measured with lasers, btw.
Deliberate attempts to damage or vandalize the image have consistently failed, including a literal bomb hidden within a pot of flowers placed directly beneath the image. The altar, much of the structure around the image and all the windows were destroyed. The image remained unscathed.
The image AND the tilma also seem to...regenerate? Somehow. The tilma is like not showing any signs of degrading despite how old it is. Max weird, I love this bit.
She's in the very last stage of pregnancy, like any-day-now kinda pregnant in the image.
The stars on her veil are an accurate depiction of the constellations in the sky at the time of the image's appearance, from the perspective of looking towards her original position, at a 45° angle from the ground.
This arrangement of the constellations also places Corona Borealis at her head, Virgo at her chest, and Leo at her womb.
Her eyes reflect the view of the room she appeared in, with accurate perspective and parallax.
Her appearance is that of a mestiza.
There are a few theories about why she's named for Guadalupe, which originally referred to a pre-dating image of Our Lady. It's likely meant to be representative of the blending of the spanish and native mexican cultures, but my favorite theory is that it's a spanish interpretation of a nahuatl word: Coātlaxopueh, which means One Who Crushes the Serpent. Which is badass. (Personally, I think both of these things are true).

i cannot imagine how deeply stressful and miserable one must be to truly believe their loving God will punish them for all eternity-- longer than a human mind could even begin to grasp!-- because they didn't live their 73.5 years alive meeting each of His expectations and repenting perfectly when they fell short. Words cannot define or describe how small a human life is compared to eternity. you really, truly think God will decide your eternal fate on that miniscule number of years, and nothing else? That you die and immediately *poof* God has made His decision? Do you realize cruel, how unjust, how petty you make God sound? that isn't mercy, or love, and frankly it's a cosmic joke to call it either of those.
I'm not trying to be anti-Christian or doing some 'gotcha!' here. I want you, a person who fully believes in a default Hell and eternal damnation, to think critically about how you view salvation. Because I promise you, as a Christian who believes in universal salvation and a million and one chances to find God long after death, I do not worry about my soul's resting place-- i worry about how to better *this life*, and all of humanity, instead. I worry and focus how to live like Christ, instead of being pearlized by damnation
they are best friends
i actually get a bit annoyed with people who get a bit annoyed when people say “sorry” in response to their bad news. “why are you apologizing you didn’t do anything :/” like okay well a) you don’t know that and actually yes i am the secret architect of all your woes and have been this whole time, way to refuse to acknowledge a woman (gender neutral)’s accomplishments. and b) we’re both fluent english speakers so you know perfectly well that “sorry” isn’t always an apology and is very commonly used as an expression of general regret or sympathy. not in this case, because i have been your secret nemesis for years, meticulously plotting your every misery, but, like, in general
betrayed by my own mutual?

what gives the lie to “silence is complicity” or its cousin “silence is violence” is that people are silent about tens, hundreds, thousands of atrocities happening right at this moment because they do not know they are happening/there is simply not enough time in the day to condemn all the evil in the world.
do you think the people saying “silence is complicity” really believe what they are saying, which implicates them too, or do they feel entitled to a stranger’s take? is it a way to build coalition or bully people? is it, at best, a poorly thought out phrase (and there are many such cases!) or is it lying through teeth?
does anyone really believe that saying the right words absolves you? that that’s all there is to it and nothing more?
And sometimes, silence is a way to stay off the authorities’ radar while you do subversive underground shit.
^That.
Especially when someone's 'silence' is on social media or in work etc. If you're making a judgement about someone's actions/number of fucks they give based on only observing a tiny fraction of their life then you're likely going to be wrong.
I always think about the women I write about when this kind of conversation comes up. Would that pretty, gentile-passing Polish Jewish girl with a packet of powdered dynamite hidden in her bra have let a dashing German officer sit next to her on the train brag about murdering Jews?
Hell yes. She would have giggled along, let him light her cigarette, and expressed her own hatred of the “dirty Jews.”
And then she’d get off the train, proceed to the nearest ghetto, pay a smuggler to let her scale the wall, drop down, and deliver the explosives to the Jewish underground HQ.
