caring for them after a fight.
helping them clean up. the silence filled with nothing but the sound of strained breaths and the smell of bloodstained cleaning gauze. standing between their legs and bringing them close, their heads resting against your chest as they seek comfort, fingers grazing against their hair. whispered comforting nothings. their hands grasping at your waist pulling your closer and squeezing you as they ground themselves. wordless reassurance, your whispered questions and their silent responses, a shake of their heads, a following nod. the subtle squeeze when you attempt to step away, a silent plea against.
bringing them to the shower after coaxing them, silently helping them undress and step under the hot, comforting water. washing them as they lean against you, hands never leaving your skin, too fearful to not be touching you. more comforting words, more silences where words aren't needed nor welcomed. drying each other, shallow kisses in adoration, a small gesture of gratefulness rather than lust. an act of devotion beyond their voices, the vulnerability of being taken care of.
cuddling in bed, firmly pressed against them, a clingy embrace, safe and protected. soft kisses against their foreheads, soft words, soft touches. the steady breathing against your neck when they fall asleep, the last feather-like caress against their face.
a whispered "doesn't matter what happened, i'm right here with you" lost in the darkness of their room.
saw this being debated and just wanted to talk about it too.
"is it rude if I politely ask a writer if they use ai or chatgpt on their works because I'm almost certain they do?"
yes, it is rude. no matter how polite you are being when you ask them this.
you say you are almost certain. so you are not absolutely certain.
unless you are absolutely, undoubtedly certain — with actual proof — that their writing is ai generated, never ever ask an artist if their work is ai generated.
I know several writers who would stop writing and delete all of their works if they were ever accused of using ai. so it doesn't matter if you are polite when you ask them this, you are suggesting that their works are ai generated, that they didn't create the works they could have spent hours, days, weeks, months or years working on.
ai and chatgpt are trained on real humans' works, they are trained to mimic the way real humans write. so if you say a genuine writer's work "looks ai", I'm gonna have to ask you what you think ai was trained on.
a writer whose English isn't their first language may also write in a way that "looks ai" to some, if they write in English and have to rely on translator.
using em dash isn't a sign of ai. I do it all the time. my fellow writers all love em dash.
having long paragraphs with "overly described scenes" isn't a sign of ai. I do it all the time, and so do my fellow writers.
all the "ai signs" are actually just what most writers actually do. they get mistaken for "ai signs" because sometimes the way writers write or describe a scene in a fanfic or an original work is different than the way people talk or text. because they're writing a fic and describing a scene, not chatting with a friend. the way I talk is different than the way I write my fics.
if you suspect a work was ai generated, but are not 100% sure, you can always just stop reading said work without saying anything.
if someone does use ai to write, they will either a.) deny and continue using ai to write or b.) admit because they see nothing wrong with it and continue using ai to write.
if a genuine writer was wrongly accused of using ai, they may stop writing altogether.
asking a writer if they use ai or chatgpt to write will always do more harm than good. witch hunting will always do more harm than good.
you are not "fighting against ai" by throwing around such accusations. you are harming genuine writers and artists.
It isnt an accusation. Its a fucking question. One that protects the very communities and artists that this post claims to defend.
all of the fanfic writers, whom I personally know, say the same thing that they would feel discouraged and might delete all their works if they were asked this.
it’s not “hey do you like x or y” question. it’s a subtle implication that your work looks like it was written by a robot within a minute. if you personally don’t find that offensive, that’s cool. but I know a lot of writers do. and they have the rights to be discouraged by it.
also we are talking about fanfic writers who write as their hobby, getaway or safe place, writers whose works you read for free. not writers who sell their works and are making profit from what they write. fanfic writers don’t owe you anything.
This just came across my dash. I'm going to be blunt.
Asking a writer or artist if they “use AI” is an accusation, no matter how you dress it up. It’s not neutral. It implies you think their effort, style, or voice is artificial. It implies that their human work doesn’t look human enough for you.
You don’t protect the community by policing people who are actually creating from scratch. You protect it by supporting human creators, reporting confirmed AI misuse when there’s evidence, and learning the difference between this sounds different than what I’d write and this is machine-generated.
Writers—especially fanfic authors—already pour their time, emotion, and identity into what they share for free. They don’t owe anyone proof of authenticity on top of that. And if your question makes someone want to quit writing, it’s not protecting the community. It’s shrinking it.
If you’re not 100% sure, just scroll. AI ethics don’t need to turn into public inquisition season.
“And if your question makes someone want to quit writing, it’s not protecting the community. It’s shrinking it.”
^^^^ this
Repeat after me:
👏 AI 👏 witch-hunts 👏 hurt 👏 legit 👏 creators! 👏
Because the question is accusatory by nature, and the people actually using AI probably aren't going to care, or will just lie to your face about it. Also people are terrible at identifying AI writing, because it was trained on real people.
If you think someone might have used AI in their work, don't ask them if they did. Scroll away. Quietly unfollow. Leave them alone.
Seriously, so many of these AI witch-hunts read like trying to use a shotgun to take out a fruit fly. The collateral damage is so much worse than any actual victory.

Types of Familiars!!
⤷ bonded familiar ✩₊˚. chosen at birth or during initiation, a lifelong link that shares some of the witch's senses. this is your classic deep-bond familiar, and it's great for characters who genuinely can't hide anything from their familiar, bc the two of them are wired together on some level, which raises the stakes the moment one of them lies to someone else.
⤷ summoned familiar ✩₊˚. called from elsewhere, another plane, the wild, somewhere outside the witch's own world, and it's temporary unless the bond is actively renewed. this creates a built-in ticking clock, bc the relationship has to be maintained on purpose, and a witch who neglects the renewal risks losing the familiar entirely, which is great tension if your character is distracted by literally anything else going on in the plot.
⤷ blood familiar ✩₊˚. passed down a family line, and it carries memories or knowledge of past witches who bonded with it before. this one's genuinely great for exposition without an info-dump, bc the familiar can just know things the current witch doesn't, having lived through generations of the same bloodline's history.
⤷ guardian familiar ✩₊˚. protective by nature, often stronger and more visibly aggressive than the companion-type familiars. great for action-heavy scenes, and also interesting to subvert, a guardian familiar who's overprotective to the point of being a problem for the witch's independence is a genuinely compelling relationship dynamic.
⤷ shade familiar ✩₊˚. spirit-based rather than physical, and can only manifest partially, or only at certain hours. this gives you built-in scarcity, the witch can't rely on their familiar being fully present whenever they need it, which forces creative problem solving in scenes where the familiar's help would normally be the easy solution.
⤷ wild familiar ✩₊˚. untamed, and it chooses the witch rather than being chosen by them, which makes the bond genuinely unpredictable. this flips the power dynamic completely, the witch doesn't get to decide the terms of the relationship, and that unpredictability is great if you want tension even in scenes that are supposed to be comforting.
⤷ vessel familiar ✩₊˚. houses a spirit or ancestor inside it rather than being its own independent creature. this one's got great horror potential if you want it, but also genuine tenderness potential, a witch talking to a beloved grandmother who now exists inside a raven is a completely different emotional register depending on how you play it.
⤷ marked familiar ✩₊˚. bears a visible physical sign of the bond, a symbol hidden in its fur, an unusual eye color, something that marks it as bonded rather than ordinary. great for a mystery-flavored plot, bc other characters can identify a bonded familiar on sight, which means your witch can't hide the bond even if they want to.
