FAQ + Guidelines
1. How do you make the edits? PicMonkey, though I had already bought the basic plan a while ago and figured I’d make the best of it! Most of the time, I’m lucky enough to find a transparent image of a character online and I can just download it and put them on the flag. Sometimes, I have to remove the background to make way for transparency and I do that by hand by “erasing” the image background and having a transparent layer behind it! Edited backgrounds have the tag #originals
2. What’s the difference between submissions and asks? Asks are for requesting characters for Mod Spark to edit onto the nonbinary flag. Submissions are more for submitting your own edit of a character on the flag that we can post right away! Though, we receive requests for characters through submissions as well.
3. Okay, I have a character I want to request. What do I say in the ask? As long as there’s a name + preferably the media they’re from, it’ll get done either way! There really isn’t any bad way to go about it. Or (character) from (media) is nonbinary is very standard! Something to keep in mind: If you request a character through an ask, off-anon, you’ll get a private reply telling you your character is queued. Can’t do that with anons and requests in the forms of submissions!
4. Rules on character requests? Medias that are a no go include Dream SMP, Harry Potter and Hetalia. This list may be updated. Other than those, no requesting real life people (characters in a certain show are okay) and no Super Problematic Evil People (up to mod interpretation). Mods reserve the right to turn down your request for any reason.
5. Can I request multiple characters? It’s easiest if you keep it to one character per ask but nothing is stopping anyone from multiple asks!
6. Can I request my own character/OC? Certainly! Just be sure to do it off anon + have an image of them in the ask! Clarify if you want the whole image on the flag or if you want the background removed for a transparent image.
7. How long until my character is posted? There are quite a few factors, as it depends on when you sent the ask and/or how many other characters have been done/are in the queue before your post. If the mods are on top of requests as they come in, average ask-to-post time can be about a week or more. If it’s quiet, a few days is more like it. Don’t forget that Mod Spark has a life outside of tumblr and sometimes doesn’t get to editing for a while and the asks pile up.
