Jay reached up to touch his face. “You’ve never been too much, Matt. Sure, you’re a lot to handle but… but I’m good at handling you. It makes me feel good, it makes me feel… useful. Skilled. Like I can do something nobody else can.”

At this, Matt barked out a laugh. “You literally can, Bird, you’re like a fucking genius prodigy piano composer.”

“Yeah, but who cares about that?”

Matt pulled away from the kiss first, and propped himself up on his arms, dragging himself up from Jay’s chest, at horizontal eye level with each other.

“There you go again, Matt, making it all about you.”

Red flashed in Matt’s vision as those ten words cut into him deeper than he thought they would, deeper than he cared to let on. The dull painful throb in his temples pierced through his skull, and he lost it. Before he was conscious of what he was doing, he’d donkey-kicked Jay with his already outstretched leg, sending him careening off the side of the bed, clearly not expecting the blow. In an instant, Matt was on top of him on the floor, scrambling to put him in a headlock, which Jay immediately began fending off.

“FUCK YOU, MAN!” Matt yelled, as he grappled with Jay, his arms unable to find purchase.

“It’s a blessing. I’m really happy they like it.”

Honestly refreshing to see a man realize his demographic is full of young women and not instantly become a bitter misogynist about it. I think about supernatural, about any Moffat show, about comedians and influencers, these men who are making something that they imagine likeminded men will resonate with, and instead are supported by women, and they instantly turn punitive and bitter and diminutive, treating a female audience like a curse and an embarrassment.
