Okay.
I've had some Gil defenders come into my notifications and that's fine, if you like Gil that's fine. My opinions about Gil are first and foremost shaped by the 13 Wishes movie in which Gil watches Lagoona throw her identity out the window and doesn't see a problem with it until the wish starts to backfire on him
By the end of the movie Gil tells Lagoona he wants her as she is (bare minimum to want your girlfriend to be herself). So I understand that people will say I can't hold that against him (I am).
Skull Shores, Gil saves the day and faces his fear. But I didn't hear an apology for calling Lagoona's home. The place she grew up. Her identity. Gross and scary. He still treats the ocean as something he has to conquer. His girlfriend's home. Okay (edit: I do think he called it beautiful on the boat ride back to monster high. I will keep to the argument that telling your gf her home is gross and scary is objectively a fucked up thing to say though)
"Gil threw her a parade" Lagoona asked him to leave her alone. And he threw her a parade. I'm sorry but respecting your partner's wishes is more important than doing what you think will make them feel better.
"Gil defends her against his parents" oh my God he's not racist, good for him. Be so real that's bare minimum. I said he was annoying I didn't say he was a villain.
"Gil defends her against Mr. Hack" see above.
Even still though Gil is not without his flaws and blatant micro-aggressions.
Gil never says he doesn't believe sea monsters are the creatures his parents told him about, he says he doesn't believe Lagoona is that way. Cause Lagoona is different. He's still got growth to do.
