fic summary:

How well does Yuuri really know his fiancé?

After a string of silver medals in the Japanese Nationals, Four Continents and World Championships, Yuuri’s move to Russia with his wayward coach/fiancé only heightens his determination to finally get the gold.

Meanwhile, after the announcement of his long-awaited comeback Victor is thrust back into the world of crazed fans, obsessive journalists and endless media attention. He seems to love every minute of it, so should Yuuri be worrying as much as he is about the brutal hours of training that Victor keeps imposing on himself? Or is Yuuri’s anxiety playing keep-away with his rationality again?

He’d ask Victor, but he seems too busy to notice.

chapter 19 summary:

Victor and Yurio finally manage to open up with the help of Yuuri, and the Grand Prix Final’s Short Program is officially underway.

Yuuri arrives about half an hour later to find Yurio still ranting, Georgi hunched over with his head in his hands, Mila excitedly shaking her glitter encrusted banner, and Yakov observing the chaos from a distance. In the middle of it all, Viktor is smiling, incandescently happy.

Yuuri’s laugh bubbles out of him. He waves dorkily, carry-on luggage bouncing against his calves as he runs into Viktor’s arms.

“I’m home!”

“I still can’t believe it.” Yuuri intertwines his fingers with Viktor’s. “We’re married.”

“We are,” Viktor confirms.

After a year and a half juggling between wedding preparations and competitions, honeymoon time has finally come for Yuuri and Viktor. One entire month during which they’ll get to see the world and its treasures, have new experiences, face travel hiccups and cherish each other’s existence.

A peaceful, bright journey, without a single cloud on the horizon… if it weren’t for the secret Viktor is hiding.

At least until Victor suddenly finds himself engaged to a person who’s now a stranger:

Victor is the kind of child that can charm people whether or not he uses magic to do so—and he would have you know he does not use magic to accomplish it.

First, he appreciates the challenge of doing things for himself and proving everyone wrong.

Second, royals are the only ones with magic so they need to use it responsibly, for the people. Not to mention that magic comes from emotions, but that doesn’t mean that they make easy to manipulate emotions.

Third, in this particular case, the Katsuki boy has so thoroughly charmed Victor without using any magic himself, that Victor’s making it a point of pride to do the same in return.

You see, despite having a knack for wooing others, Victor isn’t very good at people. Yes, he can talk to them, he can get what he wants for them, but life is easier when he lets his family name, and his charm and power draw them to him. He’s not lonely, per se, but he wouldn’t say that he’s the sort to seek out others’ company. He focuses on his work, and people come to him.

But not the Katsuki boy.

He’s even more of a child than Victor is, with about four years separating them, give or take. In all reality, Victor shouldn’t give him a passing glance, and yet…

Just when the audience believed the initial dance was finally over, the music began to pick up. They began to clap to the quickened pace and Yuuri watched as Artem adjusted the ruffles of his collar slightly before giving him a broad smile, motioning for him to come closer. Yuuri did just that in two longer strides, and he’s surprised when the man managed to sweep him off of his feet, literally. He had raised him up and off the ground by the waist before placing him back down, their hands intertwined in each others as they adjusted to the faster rhythm.

“You could have warned me, my Lord!” Yuuri said, laughing.

“It would have ruined the surprise! Besides, I’m delighted by your reactions.”

The pair decided to opt out of switching to different dance partners and stuck by each other. The man had managed to continue to surprise him by dipping him low, granting Yuuri a view of a smile that was absolutely infectious.

“I didn’t know your leg could go that high.” He smirked.

“Let me up, please! This is embarrassing!” Yuuri laughed as he tapped him square in the chest.

All of the patrons who watched on as they danced together started to murmur amongst each other once again. In the past, Artem had never been seen with Yuuri for too long, aside from the very beginning of the night when he would have to go from person to person to greet them while acknowledging Yuuri’s existence as “his husband” to them. Even now, as the music slowed down once again and his hands drew Yuuri closer by his waist, they could not deny the look on his face – he was absolutely smitten.

Victor has been drowning for a long, long time.

And now he’s latched onto Yuuri Katuski in turn, blinded by hopeless infatuation and his own desperation to keep his head above the water.

Yakov doesn’t know if Katsuki is dragging Vitya down with him or vice versa, but he knows how this will end. They will sink to the bottom together, hearts broken and careers in tatters, and Yakov doesn’t know if he’ll be able to repair the damage.
