。⋆୨୧˚*Introduction to Cord Cutting*˚୨୧⋆。
A cord cutting spell is a spell designed to remove toxic attachments. They are often used to make sure that the attachments you have to someone are fully severed. They are most often used to get over breakups where the attachment to the person no longer serves you, or to otherwise cut off connections to people that are otherwise unhealthy and not conducive to your continued growth as a person. This is based in the idea that every attachment to someone forms a line of energy between you and them. By doing a cord cutting spell you are effectively severing that line of energy or “cord” as per the name.
While you do not necessarily have to stop talking to the person, if you have made the decision to get someone out of your life forever this is where you should turn.
There are a number of ways to go about performing a cord cutting spell. Most of them involve some degree of visualization or otherwise use representation to separate you from another person. Depending on the origin of the attachment, or otherwise how you intend to remove the person from your life, the technique that works best for you might vary. Some things might work better depending on the circumstances. Feel free to add your own twist and trust your intuition, as likely, you know your feelings best.
Many of these involve physically cutting things, or otherwise use fire, so, as always, be careful!
Scissors and Slices
One of the easiest and least supply intensive ways to perform a cord cutting spell is to take a piece of paper and put the names of both parties on them. Whether you draw a line connecting the two or otherwise just have them being on the same paper representing the connection, the effect is similar. Take a pair of scissors, or if you want a more visceral feeling to it, take the paper in both hands. As you separate the names physically, picture the line between you severing.
One of the more common cord cutting spells involves two candles. One candle represents you, and one candle represents the other person. What kind of candle you use for this is going to vary from person to person. For example, this can be connected to how you associate them, or be more reflective of the nature of the relationship. A relationship you want to escape because you’re worried for your safety might feature more black candles. Some suggest when prepping that you write your names, or otherwise use initials/ something similar directly onto the candles. Either you find two candles with sufficiently long wicks, or others use a seperate piece of string connecting the two.
To sever the cord you light where the wicks are tied together and allow the fire to find the candles. There is mixed opinions as to whether the candles should be allowed to burn all the way down. Depending on how you set it up, this might be preferable. If you plan to let them burn all the way down to manifest, you probably picked candles you will be willing to use for this purpose in the first place. Otherwise, let them burn until you feel like it has come to completion. You should know better than anyone when that point is.
Photo Removal
Something others find a lot of catharsis in, and could just as easily be used for spellwork is the act of removing someone’s face from a photograph. Photos are often representative of memories. By removing them from your photos you are removing their memory from getting to have a place in your life. This can be done digitally, but few will argue that there is some kind of power to removing their visage from your present physically. Other forms of this involve crossing out the eyes or scribbling over faces.
One that I personally enjoy is the act of removing the face and replacing it with another. Doing this in your memory as well can undercut the power they have and remove them from any place they have or even ever had over your life. It doesn’t even always have to make sense. You can replace their face with someone who makes you happy, or a cute animal because that animal deserves more space in your mind than they do.
Bay Leaves Me Alone
Another technique I’m familiar with, though I don’t have personal experience with this one, is using charcoal and bay leaves. You write the name of the person on a bay leaf using the charcoal and then burn it. I have heard of bay leaf manifestations before and they follow a very similar process. Because of this it might be a good idea to cross out the name on the bay leaf and make it very clear that the thing you want to manifest is getting rid of them. Otherwise scribbling out their name could have a similar effect.
Worth noting here is that many guides for bay leaf manifestations say it is perfectly fine using pens instead of charcoal. I would only not suggest this because you’d be breathing burning ink. Which lets be fair, if burning leaves and herbs is already kind of walking a fine line, burning pen ink isn’t gonna be high on the list of health and safety activities. Charcoal is less likely to cause the same problems.
As always, be careful when burning things, but with this specifically make sure you have a dish or other fireproof container to allow the bay leaf to burn in. Most suggest burning it over a candle and then transferring it to a bowl once it’s lit so it can burn and smoke.
One of the first forays into knot magic, this kind of cord cutting spell involves getting a piece of string or yarn. I have done this with one string, representing my own ties, but if you feel it is more appropriate and representative of the situation, you can use two different strings to represent you and the other person. Everything from color choice to type of string is a very personal choice since, at the end of the day, this is your relationship.
Picture your relationship in your mind and start aggressively tangling the string, letting your intuition dictate how tangled it should be until you feel it suitably represents your entanglement with the person. When I did this, I closed my eyes and tied the string behind my back, going entirely by feeling. Then I opened my eyes and pulled the string back in front of me.
The real unbinding involved is the conscious effort to untie the knot. With every bit you spend untying the knot you are removing yourself from the entanglement. You are untying yourself from the other person.
And Stay Out!
Once you have done the spell, it is a good idea to cleanse after. This is the case for a lot of spells, but this one especially because you’re going to want to remove any residual energy. Cleansing, banishing (similar to cleansing, but more aggressive usually), and warding afterwards to make sure that not only is it severed, but it cannot reform is something to keep in the back of your mind for afterwards. Intend the energy out, and then send it away. You may also take this time to get rid of the ingredients you used for the act, whether that be throwing them away, burying them, throwing them in the sea, or just flushing them.
