Sam's parents totally ruined his life and I'm here to explain why I've come to this conclusion.
Buckle up, it's a long one. We'll be starting with his father!
Stanley Gladiator actually pops up in both Yandere Highschool and Yandere (Preschool) a few times. From the little we see of him, he appears to be permissive, indulgent, and cowardly, and adores him son deeply. This, I think, is where many of Sam's problems come from! Stanley's extremely permissive parenting and constant affirmation that Sam is special, shown in how he backs Sam up when he's ARGUING WITH THE PRINCIPAL, has instilled in Sam the belief he's both nearly always right, and if anyone has a problem with him that's a THEM problem, not his fault!
In Yandere Preschool, it's shown he gets Sam basically whatever he wants, his room is HUGE and full of toys, he got Sam his bunny hat and apparently let him eat carrots only for about 2 straight months. A parent who always defends and affirms, and never disciplines their child often makes the child abrasive, shy, and entitled. Sam is all of these things. It's seen Stanley tries to be a good father, even introducing him to Taurtis as a child because he has no friends. However, Stanley has ultimately failed Sam as a father, enabling him and teaching him he's always good, can have whatever he wants, and that it's okay to push people around. Sam was taught there are no consequences to his actions.
Secondly, I want to talk about Sam's mother, who we never see or learn the name of. However, Sam calls her multiple times across the series, mostly to affirm that he's safe. She's implied to be protective, strict, and mentally unstable. She doesn't seem to live with them, as shown in Yandere Preschool, but Stanley still speaks of her fondly, so they clearly aren't divorced (hence my theory she's in a mental ward, as Sam only ever calls her) Sam clearly has a bit more fear of his mother, and is somewhat close with her, but she's largely out of the picture.
Also, his parents let their 16 year old son LIVE ALONE soo...
Anyways, the total lack of rules, discipline, and aversion of any outside consequences has led Sam to believe he's invincible and can effectively do no wrong. He deserves whatever he wants, because he's special and precious and "darling" as his father often says. Sam's father has even referred to Sam's friends as being someone lesser and more akin to toys for Sam, while simultaneously letting Sam treat him the same way, which I also think plays into Sam's delusions, but that's another essay.
Anyways, enjoy! If anyone has any thoughts PLEASE comment or something the hyperfixtation is hitting hard.
