Time for a proper pinned post, I guess.

I'm Fёarath (pronounced "fair-rath" — blame elvish), she/her, 27 y.o., ace, and autistic. I’m a professional artist specializing in comics, and a non-pro writer with a life long Silmarillion obsession.

My blog still carries my very old nickname, and I won’t change it because I don’t want people to lose track of me.

English is my second language, so my posts may not always read as smoothly as I want them to. But I promise, I'm doing my best.

I understand that people like different things, and I’m totally OK with that! Just don’t expect me to engage with or be enthusiastic about the things I’ve listed here.

My blog a bit of a mess, and I’ve never tagged posts properly and I doubt I ever will. I tried but I forget it every time.

I also have a Silmarillion AU and the majority of my silm arts are taking place in it.

The pivot point there is that Mairon gets the Ring, goes through a redemption arc, but breaks the Doom in the process and creates a whole mess of problems. This AU also includes concepts like a predatory Void, Estë going incognito with the Noldor, Finrod facing eternal trouble after the Song Duel, Melkor shapeshifting into a bird... and much more. I’ll probably make a dedicated post about it, but who knows when :)

A short comic about Sauron's motivation for a character ask. I guess this is more of an AU thing, though it doesn't directly contradict the canon, as far as I know.

If you've been reading my blog, you know, I have been drawing things for a while. Sixteen years in particular. Being an artist is a big part of my identity, it's who I am. And I don't know how to live without it.

The last half-year I spent in autistic burnout. So I was not able to draw. And now when I'm finally recovering(hooray!) I find myself in a strange place. Like... it's surprisingly harder to return to drawing now than I thought it would be.

For a long time making something "just beautiful" was enough. But now "just beautiful" is what a cursed machine can do. And to be better than that cursed machine, my artworks now have to be meaningful. Emotional. Unique. The stakes just grew so much higher. And I don't know if I have that in me? If I am able to compete?

Business already wants nanobanana instead of my hardwork because it's so much faster and cheaper and they don't care about the difference in the quality. But I'm noticing the effect in people that once were my audience too.

I started drawing because making something beautiful was the only way for me to be listened to. It was the only language that people around me agreed to hear. By making art I could say something about things, that I cared about, and not being ignored.

It is different now. Social media feeds are flooded by perfectly rendered AI slop. I don't think my voice can be heard through this stuff anymore.

And the worst thing is that it is affecting me. My brain looks at the things I draw now and being like "Why are we doing this? What's the use? Who even needs this? No dopamine for you."
