i think americans should have to put a banner above their post that says U.S. CENTRIC ADVICE/INFORMATION. i think political posts should clarify that they are giving protest/societal/class information relevant only to the USA i think i would like to stop getting halfway through a post with really good information and then realising it is not widespread advice and is only applicable in the united states of america

This is a sort of tangential example but it illustrates the point a bit: not every country uses 911 for emergency services. But because young people in other countries are so heavily exposed to US TV, it frequently doesn't occur to them that their emergency services may have a different number. In Canada, it's 911 - but the frequency with which I see people trying to argue about freedom of speech here in Canada but they are 100% just parroting American concepts of freedom of speech... which we don't have. We have something similar, but it's different, and it works different.

the idea that a sex scene in fiction is fundamentally useless/simply for audience titillation UNLESS they’re fucking infodumping exposition while they bone or something is so funny and myopic to me. like, you really genuinely believe for real that there is NOTHING to be gained about your understanding of a story or characters simply from how they approach and engage in sex? really for real?

When I was like 6 I thought pizza looked sooo gross and sloppy and nasty it ANNOYED me every time an adult asked if I'd like some and I felt it necessary to tell them I would never ever ever even touch something soooo totally barfingly DISGUSTING as ANY PIZZA but you know what, I still enjoyed watching the ninja turtles, I still readily accepted that pizza just meant a lot to michelangelo as a person with a different experience from my own

"from an ace point of view" watching movies is about seeing the world from other people's point of view. if you don't want to see it, that's fine, not everything is for everyone, but if you're not engaging with something just because it doesn't appeal directly to your point of view that's just being a picky eater.
