May is Mental Health Awareness month. Everyone know how I feel about it already but I cannot and will not stress enough how important it is. 1 in 4 people have a mental health issue. I am one of them. Bipolar Disorder has taught me so much about dealing with life's struggles. And Borderline Personality Disorder has also been a roller coaster that I definitely don't shed enough light on. Throw in my anxiety, my self harming, my addictions, they all tie together. I've been dealing with mental health problems for as long as I could remember, but it took me years of avoiding my problems and self medicating and hurting myself to get help. I've lucked out by starting therapy 4 years ago and getting misdiagnosed and then correctly diagnosed. Not everyone is so lucky. The stigma surrounding mental health conditions stop people from getting the help they need. No one wants to admit they're sick, they don't want to be labeled crazy, who does? It's unfair to stigmatize these issues. Chemical imbalances are real, not everyone's brains function correctly. We don't all get what we need. But talking about it and being open with your struggles can save someone's life. Be open and honest, educate people, don't let the stigmas break you.
