thought of the day: i think ford prefect sleeps either fully clothed or fully nude no in between

after years of arthur yelling at him about sleeping with his shoes on the couch i think he takes his shoes off before bed, but before that he was not above shoes on the bed.

that said i think ford gets most of his sleep in just powernapping on the bus

always thought ford and arthur met at a college party ford gatecrashed while arthur was in his senior year (25) and they started to get along because they were both outcasts. eventually arthur found out ford got by completely through couch hopping and offered to let ford stay with him, which he started to regret a month in seeing as ford isn’t the most thoughtful roommate, but arthur felt the need to let him stay because he’d already made the commitment. once ford moved out, they kept in touch because of how familiar they were with each other but around 60% of the time they found each other extremely annoying. obviously a little better than living together though

I don’t think it was as bad for them as it became in space. going into space added a lot of strain onto their relationship because arthur started setting his priority of finding a home above ford while ford thought he was finally able to be free and have arthur along with him during this. a lot of the tension they have comes from that dynamic but I don’t think they were the best pair on earth either

I don’t think ford was that eager to become friends with arthur. he appreciated that arthur was a weirdo and felt cared about by him, but if ford got too close to anyone on earth he’d feel too conflicted about trying to leave. he set his hope on getting off the planet and building long-term friendships would be a sort of an admittance that he was stuck. ofc things happened and he ended up falling in love and having to make an exception but I doubt he wanted to
