i am 100% convinced that mobile phone/ social media bans for under 16s are an attempt to remove kids and teens from public life. this is not protecting kids this is locking them in houses with no escape from their abusers. the world is so hostile to teenagers rn
it also stops a social movement dead in its tracks. where were most of us radicalized? online. in our teens. it’s how we were first exposed to lives drastically different from our own. i remember learning about ferguson live on tumblr dot com when i would NEVER have heard about it in that context any other way. if they only have input from their parents and their parents’ media for the first sixteen years of their life, they’re MUCH more likely to retain those values.
yes, teens are an oppressed social class.
but they’re also kneecapping us.
