Yes I am a feminist. No I’m not to young. Yes I know what it means to be a feminist. The thing is, is a lot don’t. A feminist is a person who believes in equality of the sexes. I am a feminist because if a girl has sex before marriage she is a slut but if a guy has sex he is praised. Because “Like a girl” is an insult. Because we’re taught to yell fire instead of rape. Because we’re asked what we were wearing if we were raped. Because girls can wear jeans, boots, and cut their hair short but a guy can’t wear a dress. Because guys are shamed for being emotionally open because that’s a girl thing. Because if I wear short-shorts I’m too slutty but if I wear a long skirt and a long sleeve shirt I’m prude. Because if my bra strap shows, I get pulled out of class and told to cover up because it distracts boys. Because my teacher said it was unprofessional when a woman’s shoulder was showing. Because we’re taught not to get raped instead of not to rape. I’m a feminist because I believe in gender equality and I don’t want to be treated as property.
