“annie, you don’t annoy me. you’re just sometimes ENTHUSIASTIC and MOTHERLY? you’re just--- you. that’s who you’ll always be. i’ve accepted that, so no--- not annoying!” touching her hair, jess laughed, “no. not my natural hair--- bleached!” thinking of her natural color with a wince. “i don’t look good with my UGLY natural color.” still horror dancing on her face. “i rode a moose to school, ate everything with maple syrup, and WINTER was always coming.”

“don’t worry, judging by my LAST relationship, i’m not either?” thinking of the pitfalls of ALL relationships. “as long as we communicate properly--- it’s good. we’re good?” smile tugged at her lips, “i like the idea of being MYSTERIOUS!” feeling herself swell with excitement of the idea. “i like him. i guess when it’s FAMILY you can’t really help it. defending them is just a think families do?” jess was an ONLY CHILD, but she figured that’s how it was. “we are the CUTEST, obviously. i think we’re hot on our own. together? HOTTEST!”

“you know i’m FROM america, right? i mean, i’m a DUAL CITIZEN, but i was born in AMERICA.” words were harsh and full of venom, “which means--- if you married me, you’d be a damn US citizen?” looking at him like he was an idiot. “thank god, i can make you get MILK when i need it.” voice still sound cold and rude. “anyone can get married--- here we are!” pointing between the both of them eyebrows pressing together. 

“yes chris---” jess had been holding her breathe until the realization set in. “hello to you, too.” giving him a sarcastic expression with a shrug.

“okay--- ask me something ONLY hanna would know? guess what, i wont fucking know? my name is JESS, wendigos are real, and i almost died in some ABANDONED MINES in canada.” there was some challenge in her voice. “i can handle my own shit, dude. if i can PROVE you wrong--- you get to drink, got it?” face was as hard as stone; wanting to win this challenge she had laid out before him. 

“why am i NOT surprised??” giving chris a hard look before rolling her eyes. despite making fun of him, jess pulled out her own phone, tapping away like a zombie trying to find brains.

“oh right--- hanna, everyone seems to know her. i’m her EVIL TWIN jessica. except--- i’m not her TWIN, i’m her doppelganger!” eyebrows slamming into each other, annoyed. “thanks, daddy--- but i can HANDLE my liquor!”

“your suggestion is DENIED. you can go play BORING COP somewhere else, buddy. i’m gonna get fucking drunk as a skunk & make out with RANDOMS?! so thanks but---- no!”

“good answer, at least you didn’t say NOTHING, which would hurt a little. agreed, i guess. sometimes it’s hard since we’re not really DEFINED. i’m not even going to argue because i know you won’t change your mind. even though i feel like i’m the weakest.” feeling a little pressure behind her blue eyes. “he’s super tall, right? i think he’s a nice guy?” not really sure what to think of sam not knowing him to well and all. “oh my gosh, i totally forgot about that? wow, time does fly? we were cute from the start? even in that moment...”
