Now I did not click on this video because the title and thumbnail together suggest a take i will find extremely annoying but the idea that "books are bad now" is deeply dumb to me. I can tell these are all romances for one. There's no need to complain about books in general being bad when you're only looking at one genre. Second of all you only need look at books that popular outside of the single one corner of the internet to understand it's not true. Now, im not romance reader, but i can tell you that for me, fantasy/sci fi have been popping recently. Intricate worldbuilding is coming into vogue, and more literary stylings: the locked tomb and the masquerade series are both current, fun to read and interesting to delve into in terms of literary analysis; Brandon Sanderson's series[...es] are really well laid out even if his writing isn't especially prosaic; and we've been getting more and more novels translated from overseas like heaven officials blessing and omniscient reader's viewpoint, so the landscape is becoming far more interesting with that as well. NK Jemesin's works have their ups and downs for me personally but she does swing for the fences every time and is still releasing books. The muderbot diaries [pause for applause]. Litfic shoutout for martyr! By kaveh akhbar which came out only a couple years ago and is a stunner.
