If you train this child from birth to pilot starships, you might end up with a Yumi-style scenario where the Piloting skills themselves don't fade with the identity, right?

Hook them up using Hemalurgy to identify as "The Ship", and drip feed them with an IV to keep them alive as a bare minimum. What you'll end up with is someone who thinks they are the Starship, and with the capability to pilot them as an extension of their own bodies.
