It's seriously fucked up that there's no way to speak frankly with a professional about suicidal thoughts without the looming threat of involuntary institutionalization and, by extension, psychiatric abuse. i just saw a post with the caption “me anytime i see someone with a disability getting by in life” with the speed audio “so cute”, with someone recording a woman crossing the road with her cane which i only heard was SOMEONE THE POSTER DIDN’T KNOW. it was a random woman the poster decided to record??
disabled people aren’t babies or pets to dote on, and it’s beyond disrespectful and dehumanising to pull something like that. what is the actual thought process to pull out your phone and record someone without their consent, let alone a disabled person literally minding their business and going “oh they’re so cute 🥹”. it’s possibly one of the most out of touch things i’ve ever seen. shocking news, disabled people live their lives! we’re not subhuman. treating us like so makes you part of the problem. if you talk to (or in the common case, over) disabled people like they’re a toddler learning to walk, you’re just as bad as the people making fun of them. educate yourself, learn the line between respect and infantilisation, and treat us like actual people.

i do like how tumblr tags work as like a quieter less intrusive part of the post/reblog however my one gripe is that due to the nature of them being tags you cant make #thing jokes as effectively
