Rest not your sense of your communion with God, fellowship with Christ, abiding in the Spirit, on the pleasant and peaceable feelings you have, even when they seem to flow and arise from the consideration of these things, nay, even when you perceive as a fact that they do. Like one who takes a sip from a glass filled with a delicious beverage, only to put it down, so that they might continue their converse with their friend, refuse to let your faith rest on such sensations, and put your naked faith in Him and Him alone, on His goodness and love at work in your soul, that is, not on the fact of nice feelings, but on the fact of the New and Everlasting Covenant God has established with you in Christ Jesus.
