Good morning everyone. What a year we have been having and I am shocked it's been so long since I posted last. A lot has happened this year and is continuing to happen, so I do apologise if I am not posting as much. I have been incredibly active with @snakefellawildliferescue and getting it's Facebook group Snakefella Wildlife Rescue (Identification, Learning and Rescues) up and running, as well as my normal work commitments but I assure you, the camera has been out and about on a few of those adventures. Hi guys, apologies for the lack of posts and lack of new images. A busy work life, temperamental Queensland wet season and a few other things have kept me away from the camera gear. We will hopefully be posting again soon with some awesome images and maybe some videos if we get around to it. Hi everyone, Apologies for the lack of posts. I decided on new years to have a break and focus on other things, including some time to think about where I want to be in life and where my photography should go to. Late last year a friend and I thought up a plan and it has come into fruition over the few weeks. Together, @wolfroutphotography and @jakes_nature_adventures have teamed up to create a wildlife service that can make a difference. One of the cuter but very easily spooked macropod is the Agile Wallaby (Macropus agilis). Found in habitats of dry open forests, dunes, heath, woodlands and adjoining grasslands, these wallabies are common across northern Australia and along east coast of Qld to Rockhampton with various other pockets of isolated populations in other south eastern localities of Australia. What a photogenic lizard. This is a Eastern bearded dragon (Pogona barbata). Found the length of the eastern quarter of Australia, eastern bearded dragons are common in open forests, heathland, scrub and even some disturbed areas such as farmland. If approached, the bearded dragon’s usual response is to freeze and rely on its camouflage. What a feisty one this one is trying to look. This is one of the 4 genera with a total of 7 subspecies to be classed as Australian Tarantula's (family name: Theraphosidae) often known as whistling or barking spiders because of the sounds most species can produce. They are not usually aggressive, but if provoked, whether walking past or actively annoying it, it will 'rear up' and appear rather menacing. The bite is painful, as the fangs are large and as long as those of many snakes. They can be found in Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia. Isn't this guy gorgeous! This bird is a male Australasian Figbird (Sphecotheres vieilloti). This birds ranges across coastal regions of northern and eastern Australia from the Kimberley region in Western Australia around to the New South Wales/Victoria border. Males bodies are an olive-green, except for a white under-tail area, while north the Proserpine, QLD, males having this yellow toned body. Afternoon everyone. Isn't it a beauty!? This little one (60cm, average around 120cm) is called a Lesser Black Whipsnake (Demansia Vestigiata). Mildly venomous, Larger specimens can be potentially dangerous, especially if children involved. A very elusive but one of the most well adapted and camouflaged birds in Australia. This guy is a White-Throated Nightjar (Eurostopodus mystacalis) Common in the forests and woodlands of eastern Australia's coastal ranges, from the tip of Queensland to Melbourne. When you thought you'd seen everything a place has to offer, it always has a surprise waiting for you. This guy is a Burton's legless lizard (Lialis burtonis). It's estimated habitat range covers most of the mainland of Australia, except for some southern others of Victoria and around the borderline of the states of Western Australia and South Australia. Pondering life or looking for a snack? This one is a Wilcox's Frog (Litoria wilcoxii) or more commonly known as a Stony-Creek Frog. This one can grow up to 7cm in length (females, males are smaller) and is native only to Australia, being found solely on the eastern coast between Ingham QLD, and Sydney, NSW but only as far inland as Atherton, QLD. Did you know that the snout acts as a ventilation system? Look at that tongue go! This medium to large sized snake (growing up to 3m) is a Water Python (Liasis fuscus). It is a non-venomous snake found in from around Broome, Western Australia, right through Northern Territory to at least as far south as Mataranka and to the coast of central Queensland to near Mackay. Despite its common name, many individuals are found far from water for most of the year. The largest of all living reptiles and an iconic Australian Reptile, this one is no other than a Estuarine Crocodile (porosus Crocodylus) or commonly known to many as a Salt Water Crocodile. They can be found in a wide range of habitats, including rivers, estuaries, creeks, swamps, lagoons and billabongs. What's so funny? Ohh, don't worry it's just a Blue-winged Kookaburra (Dacelo leachii). Males have a dark blue tail while females' tails are barred red-brown or blackish. Otherwise the sexes are similar. It's found in coastal and subcoastal areas in northwest and northeast Australia.
