Is Sansa still unwed in the books?!
Ok I just had an epiphany. This might be far-fetched and probably not brand new of a theory, but it fits into GRRM's storytelling approach and it just occurred to me so.
Tyrion and Sansa's marriage - horrible affair, right? Very unfortunate. And so far no way around it, as the High Septon really has other things on his mind, Tyrion is out of reach, and we probably shouldn't count on him kicking off any time soon (given his show!ending).
BUT.
He might have still been married when he was cloaking Sansa, right?
I know, I know... Tywin said that he had definitely annulled Tyrion's marriage to Tysha--or had he?
a) Tywin is a known liar;
b) Would he risk the awful humiliation--the only thing he cannot stand--of proceeding with that through any official channels? Pleading with the High Septon and such? Wouldn't that require Tyrion's and/or Tysha's sworn confession that their union was not consummated? Because what I think happened is that Tywin simply threatened and/or got rid of the septon who married them. He probably left no official records of the marriage itself, but that doesn't render it void.
We already know that Tyrion's marriage to Tysha will probably be a big deal in the upcoming books. He is literally unable to shut up about her.
He keeps repeating Tywin's last words about the places where the whores go.
And where DO they go?
Where do the whores go?!
Like...to the whorehouses, right?
(I mean sure, there's still a possibility that she was killed, but why would we be stuck with the broken-record Tyrion plot if that was the case? To fill the pages with some whiny bullshit in the already unbearably boring POV? Both Tyrion and the readers already know that Tywin is a disgrace of a human being, Tysha being dead would bring NOTHING NEW to the story.
I also do realise that she was not a whore. Tysha's story horrifies me. Moreover, Tywin's words probably meant that he neither knows nor cares. I wonder though if they don't turn out to have been somehow prophetic anyway.)
Okay, let's circle back to that "the whores go to the whorehouses" idea.
Do we maybe know someone who
owns
a bunch
OF THOSE?!
It would be such a weird coincidence if said person was also currently in charge of Sansa's marital prospects.
So... does Littlefinger have a few more aces up his sleeve? Is he just waiting for the right moment to unveil all his devilish schemes?
Sansa: I donāt want Jon to go down there.
Ygritte: Believe me, you do.
Jon: Why did the Lord of Light bring me back to life?!
Melisandre: Your sister is going to kill the Night King and honestly it would mean a lot to her if you could be there for her.

I know it saysĀ āSEND MEā a fandom, but Iām bored out of my mind and I wanna talk GoT, so sue me.
The first character I ever fell in love with was probably Tyrion. I know, I know... but it was many years ago, I was young(er), and his first chapters were fun!
A character that I used to love/like but now do not: see above. Also virtually all of the show characters after season 6.
A ship that I used to love/like but now do not: I used to look forward to show!Jonerys before it became apparent that the actors had negative chemistry. Many years ago I briefly entertained the idea of Sandor or Tyrion being a sensible book endgame for Sansa, too. And Dany/Jorah, ugh. Why did I use to ship young girls with old creeps?! Geez.Ā
My ultimate favourite character, if I absolutely had to pick one, would be... Sansa, I guess. Among all of my favourite characters she gets the most shit from fandom, so here I am, sticking up for her.
Prettiest character? Oof, tough one! Letās start with the novels. The characters that my brain paints as the absolutely most gorgeous beings in the world (in no particular order): Cersei, Dany, Val, Arianne, Ashara, Loras, Robb. The prettiest ones on the show: Jon Snow (cāmon), Cersei, Ygritte, Missandei, Sansa, Cat, Oberyn, Dany (especially dark!Dany; the Targ imagery + her stern expression = hot). Obviously Iām not picking just ONE, donāt be ridiculous.
My most hated character: I donāt really hate anyone, but... oh, who am I kidding? Itās Tyrion. (Principally because heās like the go-to favourite character to all the fanboys who mostly ignore all the red flags. And you know what? show!Tyrion I get, but book!Tyrion is The Worst.)
My OTP: haha, I hope itās abundantly clear to anyone at this point that Iām terrible at picking ONE of anything really. book!OTPs: Ned/Cat, Jon/Val... aaand thatās basically it. Iām not that much of a shipper in ASoIaF books. show!OTPs: Jonsa (those damn actors and their stupid chemistry!), Jon/Ygritte, Ned/Cat, Jaime/Brienne, Jon/Tormund (wow, Jon is probably the most shippable character on the show), Sansa/Theon, Cersei/wine. My wild fandom favs/crackships/AUs etc.: Ned/Cersei, Sansa/Margaery, Sansa/Dany, Jon/Satin, Jaime/Cat, JonCon/Rhaegar, Arthur/Elia.
My NOTPs are the variations of the pattern being Young Girl/(Much) Older (And Often Abusive) Creep: Sansa/Tyrion, or Sandor, or Petyr, Dany/Jorah (especially book!Dany, because book!Jorah is The Worst Too, no wonder he and Tyrion find their way into each otherās lives), show!Jonerys, book!Jongritte, Rhaegar/Lyanna.
Favourite episode: majority of seasons 1&2. (Favourite book: the infamous Feast for Crows, because Cerseiās chapters are pure gold.)
Saddest death: I got pretty much immunised with Nedās unexpected decapitation, and after that nothing shocked me anymore, even The Red Wedding. But before that... probably Lady. (On the show: Theon.)
Favourite season: see above.
Least favourite season: probably the one starting in 2015 and ending in 2019. Horrible. Embarrassing. A waste of time. (Books: ADwD.)
Character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but I hate: will it be boring if I say Tyrion? In the show that may also be true for Dany, especially since Emiliaās acting range could never fully encompass her characterās complexity, thus I always felt sort of... unattached to show!Dany, bordering on disliking her until Emiliaās acting skills met D&Dās writing skills, which is when I fully embraced this feeling. (Doesnāt apply to book!Dany, though.)
MyĀ āyouāre piece of trash, but youāre still a faveā fave: Cersei! And maybe Littlefinger? I hate his creepy arse, but I love untangling his schemes.
MyĀ āmy beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than thisā fave: MEERA FREAKING REED. IāM STILL SO EFFING ANGRY ABOUT THAT. Also Missandei. (In the books: Elia Martell!!!)
My āthis ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but I still love itā ship: I donāt know if I have one, to be honest. I know that some would consider Jonsa that ship, but in my book if youāre not abusive to one another, youāre not a nasty ship, even if youāre half-siblings turned cousins. Slightly icky, maybe, but not nasty.
My ātheyāre kind of cute, and I lowkey ship them, but iām not too investedā shipā: Most of the book ships. Sam/Gilly. Arya/Gendry. Robb/Margaery.
Well that was fun. Thanks for suggesting GoT, me. :D

āJon found it hard to look away from him.ā
I honestly feel like people overestimate Tywin... I mean who doesn't like to hate him ? And yes he's quite impressive as a character. But I honestly think he's not as smart as people think he is... he couldn't beat a boy of 15 on the battlefield . Robb was like a strategist but didn't have the same experience of the "old lion" . You'd think Tywin would win easily against him.. I'm not saying he's stupid, he's obviously not. But maybe not that smart.
Tywin really isnāt that smart. He needlessly escalated the conflict with the Starks when Catelyn kidnapped Tyrion by attacking another Lord Paramountās land. A lord who wasnāt involved in the conflict at all but just so happened to be Lady Catelynās father. That was just so stupid. He would have won the conflict if he had appealed to Robert directly because even if Ned was Hand and Robertās friend, Tywin had major leverage on Robert because the Crown was in major debt to Tywin. It was sheer idiocy to escalate the conflict that way.
What a lot of people overlook is the fact that Tywin often reacts based on his fear of appearing weak. He fears to be an object of ridicule (which is why he hates Tyrion). That is what he often reacts with excessive violence in a way that actually works against him in the long term. He chooses to make people fear him because heās afraid of people laughing at him. But ruling by fear is a brittle strength that will eventually fail.
The Red Wedding may have been a short-term tactical victory - but in the long term it is a tactical misstep because violating guest right undermines the very fabric of the feudal society of Westeros. Plus, Tywin did so because he was humiliated in the field by a teenage boy - and that made him a laughing-stock, which he canāt abide.
Rating ASoIaF POVs
Donāt come at me, these are my personal likes and dislikes (also Iām bored and I had a bizarre fandom encounter yesterday which made me almost consider being too old for Tumblr :P).
If you want to give me yours, Iāll be more than happy to read them!
The order is number of chapters in all the books combined, not my personal favourites. To make it more fun, Iāll also rate them in a scale from 1 to 10 (my least favourite POVs to my best-loved ones).
Here we go!
TYRION - 6/10
Even though heās not my favourite character (and thatās a huge understatement), I enjoy his chapters in both AGoT and ACoK. I feel kind ofĀ āwhateverā towards his ASoS chapters, but the real deal-breaker are those from ADwD. It took me nearly two years to finish that book, simply because whenever I stumbled upon his POV, I went into a coma. For me personally it presents his least likeable portrayal, least insightful journey, least understandable motivations. Moreover, he used to constantly objectify women, while judging them by THEIR potential willingness to overcome their prejudice towards him in order to sleep with him. Like get over yourself, ma boy.
JON - 8/10
He started out as an underdog, his chapters in GoT were kind of boring and whiny, nothing ever happened. But boy oh boy, I canāt get enough of him since he ventured out and started hanging out with the wildlings; and his Lord Commander chapters? Probably my favourite ones in ADwD.
ARYA - 8/10
I preferred her hanging out in Westeros, I feel like crossing the sea slowed down her story a bit. Other than that: great read!
DAENERYS - 8/10
People often complain that her chapters were kind of a bore, but for me it was quite the opposite. For a long time she was our only window into Essos, sheās also quite observant and resourceful, so maybe sheāll help Tyrionās POV become interesting again once they finally meet.
CATELYN - 10+/10
I ofter say that Sansaās chapters are my favourite, but if I really had to make a choice, itād be Cat. Her POV is captivating from the very beginning, and she takes us on such a journey! Sheās our first window into the Vale, into Renlyās camp (where we meet Brienne and the Tyrells), into Riverrun and the Twins! We follow Robb through her eyes, we mourn Ned with her... She never stops being an interesting character with an eventful background, thrown into situations we wouldnāt be able to witness, werenāt it for her POV. You may like her, you may dislike her, but Iād say that the importance of her chapters is indisputable.
SANSA - 10/10
What can I say? I like her insight, sheās one of the most observant POV characters in the books (maybe because she doesnāt really have her own agenda - not in a bad way, sheās a child and a captive), which makes her less self-absorbed (especially in the later chapters). Yes, her first chapters in AGoT were a bit dull, and thatās why Iād choose Catās POV over hers in general.
BRAN - 7/10
I know itās the weirdest thing to say about one of the most supernatural POVs, but I kinda preferred his Winterfell chapters? He proved to be a great leader (and Iām sure he will be a good king), but some of his later chapters blurred for me into a tight knot ofĀ āIām going north, but sometimes I warg into Summer and huntā. I hope we explore more of his abilities in TWoW, thatās something Iām really looking forward to despite not being particularly captivated by the deep northās charms.
JAIME - 8/10
Entertaining, insightful, arrogant - and Iām talking about both Jaime Lannister and his POV chapters. Heās an arsehole with a terrific backstory, but also a walking disaster of a character. Pure joy. The only thing I regret is getting his POV so late in the books. I know itād ruin suspense otherwise, but still.
EDDARD - 9/10
I love going back to AGoT and reading his chapters, pretending that I donāt know how things end for him. There are so manyĀ āmain heroā tropes in his chapters, it makes me laugh. Oh well, it was great when it lasted!
THEON - 6/10
HATED his ACoK chapters, LOVED the ones from ADwD. I know that writing him as a dick was crucial to making his further story more heartbreaking, but I generally canāt enjoy vulgarity, objectifying women, describing characters having sex for 15 pages etc. Thatās why I hate many Tyrionās chapters, and thatās why Theonās POV annoyed me at first. But damn, his inner struggle, his identity crisis, going back and forth from Reek to Theon...Ā 10/10.Ā
DAVOS - 6/10
Ah, good uncle Davos! I donāt know why Iām not rating him a bit higher, I do enjoy his chapters, especially because itās through him that we learn more about Stannis and Melisandre in the earlier books. But... heās such a boring character! :D (I know, I will have to whip myself later for writing this, feel free to send me strongly worded letters, I deserve it.) Davosās POV works great as an exposition, but I just cannot force myself to care about him personally. Good dude, though.
CERSEI - 9/10
My queen, one and only. I think ASoS might be my favourite book, and thatās mostly because of her chapters. Sheās vindictive, egoistic, jealous, unreasonable... and irreplaceable! I enjoy her slightly mellowed-down, cool-headed show version (one of the very few things that the show did right), but gosh, book!Cerseiās weak-arse schemes might be the most wholesome piece of literature, honestly. And the fact that her paranoia isnāt unfounded, that some of her frustrations are totally justified - all that makes her a character rather easy to sympathise with. She might not have the most insightful POV, but itās certainly the most entertaining one!
SAM - 7/10
Heās a good boy, and an attentive character - his chapters are enjoyable, but not yet exhilarating. Looking forward to more Oldtown business to reevaluate.
BRIENNE - 8/10
Iām not even going to explain myself, her journey was the most enjoyable side-quest Iāve ever witnessed. Some people donāt like her chapters, and honestly, that baffles me more than liking Tyrionās ADwD POV. :D
BARRISTAN - 4/10
For a famous white cloak, he really felt like a non-character to me. His POV was a-okay, but to be perfectly honest I was constantly paging through his chapters to check whether maybe Dany came back.
VICTARION - 4/10
Iām not a Greyjoy-stan and I probably canāt appreciate the nuance of some Greyjoy POVs, but both Victarion and Aeron read kind of flat. Donāt hate me.
ARIANNE - 8/10
I still donāt get how she was omitted from the show. Maybe she doesnāt become the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, but so many pointless characters from the books got shitloads of screen-time, and my girl Arianne got none? Are you serious? Freaking BRONN became the Master of Coin, and they decided Arianne shouldnāt exist?! And yes, I love even the almost universally hatedĀ āThe Princess in the Towerā chapter.
ASHA - 7/10
Sheād be higher, but thereās a lot of vulgarity in her chapters, too, and I basically donāt care for that At All. Otherwise sheās a dope character and deserves the Iron Islands.
QUENTYN - 6/10
No offence to homie, but he was a bit of a bore. A nice one, but a bore.
AERON - 4/10
See: VICTARION. Heād get even less, but at least we could experience the Iron Islands through his POV.
AREO - 8/10
I donāt see how any Dornish POV (as in being IN Dorne, not being FROM Dorne like Quentyn) could get any less than 7 points. I still think we got too few Dornish POVs, I demand amends!
JONCON - 8/10
I donāt even care about the plot (although he was one of the only two insights into Aegonās storyline, that should count for something), I canāt with the amount of gayness in his Rhaegar flashbacks. 8/10, would recommend.Ā
ARYS - 7/10
He was sweet, a bit naive, but I cannot go lower due to my Dorne principle (see: AREO).
MELISANDRE - 8/10
Surprisingly one of the most wholesome POVs of ADwD, pity it was just this one chapter. What with being a Red Priestess and all, youād expect her to radiate more... numinous energy, but her chapter was one of the most iconic ones. I wonāt give her a 9 just because I only have Ned and Cersei with those grades at the moment, and I think it should stay that way. (Oi, Ned/Cersei anyone?)
Prologues and epilogues not included.
What a trip. Care to share your favs? ;)
Daenerys - Books vs Show - Sexism and Bad Writing in the show
I wanted to write an in-depth analysis of Dany in the books vs Dany in the show. People usually talk about how the show removed much of Danyās softness and humor, but I think it goes beyond that. The show has blackwashed Dany and made her more violent and impulsive. The show has also taken away Danyās agency and cunning, and given it to the male characters around her. In my opinion, the writing of the show has been very bad and sexist, and I believe that these problems started very early in the show, not just in the later seasons.
In this essay, I wonāt talk about every change in Danyās storyline, like the problems with the depiction of the Dothraki culture, the racism in the show or certain changes like how Ser Barristan was supposed to be alive and rule Meereen when Dany is gone. I think all of these changes are worth discussing, but here, I want to focus on the problems with Danyās characterization.
SEASON 1
This season is the best season in terms of the adaptation of Danyās character. They show Dany overcoming her brotherās abuse, make it very clear that Drogo raped her and show Dany overcoming that as well, show her getting stronger, adapting to Dothraki culture and becoming a leader in her own right. But there are already some problems.
1) In the books, we have a moment in which Dany orders the khalasar to stay behind, and Viserys becomes outraged that she dared to give orders to him. This also happens in the show, but the outcome is different. In the books, Dany pushes Viserys and orders his horse to be taken away. This is an important moment for a couple of reasons. One, because this is the first time Dany defies Viserys. Two, because it shows Dany growing as a leader. She knows that a man that doesnāt ride is looked down on by the Dothraki, so she takes his horse to humiliate him, and at the same time, the Dothraki grow to respect her more. So this is an important moment that shows Dany using her understanding of Dothraki culture and her wits for political purposes. But in the show, itās Rakharo that takes Viserys horse.
2) Another change in the first season are Danyās final scenes. In the books, Dany gives Aggo, Jhogo and Rakharo a bow, a whip and an arakh, and asks them to be her bloodriders. This is important because it shows Danyās defiance of the patriarchy, because only a khal can lead the Dothraki and name bloodriders, but the show cuts this scene. They also changed Danyās last speech to the Dothraki. In the show, this is what she says:
You will be my khalasar. I see the faces of slaves. I free you. Take off your collars. Go if you wish, no one will stop you. But if you stay it will be as brothers and sisters, as husbands and wives. [ā¦] I am Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen of the Blood of Old Valyria. I am the Dragonās daughter. And I swear to you that those who would harm you will die screaming. ā Daenerys, 1x10
Meanwhile, in the books, Dany never says that their enemies would die screaming in her speech. She says this is an earlier scene, in which, she swears revenge for a girl that Mago had raped and murdered:
She lifted her head. āAnd I am Daenerys Stormborn, Daenerys of House Targaryen, of the blood of Aegon the Conqueror and Maegor the Cruel and old Valyria before them. I am the dragonās daughter, and I swear to you, these men will die screaming. Now bring me to Khal Drogo.ā ā Daenerys IX AGOT
But in her speech, Dany never says that:
āYou will be my khalasar,ā she told them. āI see the faces of slaves. I free you. Take off your collars. Go if you wish, no one shall harm you. If you stay, it will be as brothers and sisters, husbands and wives.ā The black eyes watched her, wary, expressionless. āI see the children, women, the wrinkled faces of the aged. I was a child yesterday. Today I am a woman. Tomorrow I will be old. To each of you I say, give me your hands and your hearts, and there will always be a place for you.ā ā Daenerys X AGOT
If Iām going to be honest, I donāt truly mind these changes in season 1. I still think they made a very good job with Danyās adaptation this season. But I think these changes already give us hints of what will happen to Danyās character in the following seasons. Not showing Dany taking Viserys horse and not showing her asking Aggo, Jhogo and Rakharo to be her bloodriders are changes that I wouldnāt mind in isolation. In the case of Rakharo taking Viserysā horse, itās actually a good change to give Dothraki characters more characterization than they have in the book (but itās all for nothing, because the show kills them off for no reason in season 2). But they are the beginning of the tendency that the show has of stripping Dany of her agency and giving her actions to the male characters around her. And I understand the motivation of merging Danyās two speeches into one, to cut screentime. This is another change that I wouldnāt mind, but this change already hinted that they would transform Danyās character into a more violent character than she is in the books.
SEASON 2
This season, the problems really begin, and the blackwashing and sexism begin in full force.
1) The first scene is one when they are crossing the desert. In the books, Dany thinks:
They are not strong, she told herself, so I must be their strength. I must show no fear, no weakness, no doubt. However frightened my heart, when they look upon my face they must see only Drogoās queen. She felt older than her fourteen years. If ever she had truly been a girl, that time was done. ā Daenerys I ACOK
But in the show, what do we get? Dany is slouching and looking frightened, and Jorah is the one that needs to remind her that she needs to be her peopleās strength To make it even worse, Dany tells Jorah that he is her strength:
Jorah: They are too weak to fight, as are your people. You must be their strength. Dany: As you are mine. (2x01)
They completely erase Danyās strength and leadership in this moment, and give it to a male character.
2) When she gets to Qarth, once again, we see them starting to handle Danyās character as someone whose only ability is to scream at people. In the books, Dany is received in Qarth because people are curious about her dragons. But in the show, in order to create unnecessary drama, they have the Qartheen refuse Danyās entrance, and she shouts:
Thirteen! When my dragons are grown, we will take back what was stolen from me and destroy those who have wronged me. We will lay waste to armies and burn cities to the ground. Turn us away and we will burn you first. - Daenerys, 2x04
This is a far cry from what book Daenerys is actually thinking when sheās in Qarth:
Dany had no wish to reduce Kingās Landing to a blackened ruin full of unquiet ghosts. She had supped enough on tears. I want to make my kingdom beautiful, to fill it with fat men and pretty maids and laughing children. I want my people to smile when they see me ride by, the way Viserys said they smiled for my father.
But before she could do that she must conquer. ā Daenerys II ACOK
Sheās definitely not thinking about burning cities to the ground. I understand that show Dany needs to enter the city or else she and her people will die. So I donāt think thereās anything wrong with show Dany resorting to threats in this scene. But this scene is just another step in distancing show Dany and book Dany, and making show Dany more violent.
After reading the books again Iāve realised that my feelings towards book!Dany havenāt changed, despite the terrible portrayal of her in the show. I enjoy her character immensely, sheās one of my favourite POVs, and Iām sure I will be torn about her demise.
And while I still donāt agree with a few points in this post, all of them concern Danyās actions in the show since s6, and not book!Dany herself. I am invariably appalled by her burning of the Tarlys (thatās a war crime if I ever saw one), and the loot train business is questionable at best (I agree that D&D purposefully played with the viewers' emotions, what with sad music and withdrawing almost entirely from Danyās POV in favour of humanising Lannister soldiers, but her not focusing on the troops and burning FOOD instead is something so inherently stupid that I am like 99% sure book!Dany would disapprove, too).
Yes, Iām aware of book!Danyās faults, but we need to remember one thing: sheās in a position of power in the world of ice and fire (essentially Middle Ages but with dragons and zombies). Sheās bound to make many questionable choices; a lot of her decisions were and will be unpopular. Her arc isnāt about being a benevolent queen and winning her subjectsā hearts by doing good deeds (contrary to popular belief). Why? Because sheās doomed to be a conqueror. We know this, she knows this, her supporters know this. And as a conqueror, book!Dany is, Iād say, as good as one could be. No, sheās not Sansa, or Gilly, or even Margaery (though we donāt really know enough about the latter to draw satisfying conclusions): she struggles, she compromises, she makes mistakes - but comparing her with characters without agency, or with subdued/limited agency, seems misleading. Yes, we could compare show!Dany with show!Sansa for example, after Sansa finally gains more agency, but they are both products of D&Dās misogyny, therefore it makes little sense.Ā
Do I believe she willĀ ālose itā and end up being killed by Jon? I donāt know, maybe. Itās too soon to tell; TWoW isnāt even published yet. I have no idea what future holds for her, but Iām like 99% sure that GRRM wonāt have her burning food, murdering war prisoners in cold blood, and laying waste to Kingās Landing (and thousands upon thousands of innocent people in it) AFTER it had surrendered.Ā
I like book!Dany. Iāve always liked her, and I will continue to like her unless GRRM does her dirty like the show did. I donāt expect her to be right all the time: when I say I like her, I also include all the examples of her vanity, childishness, naivete and lack of reason. But sheās also quite brilliant, cool-headed when necessary, compassionate and complex. And while show!Danyās hypocrisy is hard to stomach, her book counterpart is yet to vex me with her inconsistency.Ā
When show!Dany fell, I was absolutely convinced that she deserved it.
When/if book!Dany falls, I want to cry for three days. I want it to be tragic. I want to be torn. I want to still be able to see good in her, I want her to care.
Did I mention that I hate D&D?

Hi! there's a meta going around talking about Cersei and motherhood and such. and it basically says that she is a terrible mother and does not love her children. but at the same time it implies Jaime is a good father lol now it's clear Cersei is not mother of the year. she does love herself and power above all else. but to me it's unfair to say she doesn't love her children just bc she doesn't show maternal love in a way we usually expect.
Hi, love :)
Ā I have been saying that Cersei is a multifaceted, contradictory, complex, interesting character who happens to be very difficult to understand since the first day I got into this blighted website so I am not gonna repeat it again. Everybody here knows sheās my favourite character in existence and Iāve always defended her I love her more than I love most real people. So now that Iāve stated the obvious letās begin:
1) Cersei is not a good mother. As far as I know, being a bad mother and loving your children desperately are not mutually exclusive. In fact, itās more common than it should be.To be honest, Iād not like Cersei to be my mum, if Cersei was a real person Iād want her as far away from me as possible. Iāve already talked about Joffrey and his behaviour and personality and even though I will always say that Cersei is not entirely to blame, she has played her part. She spoiled him, she never tried to stop him, she never wanted to acknowledge the fact that something was wrong with her first born and she tried to compensate Robertās apathy and downright scorn by loving him too much. Thatās a really fucked up combination, if you ask me.Ā
Tommen is a little boy who is sweet and innocent and totally not ready to rule. She is not particularly understanding, she is harsh and she neglects to give him the support and love he needs.Ā
2) She loves her children. Cersei wants power and her ambition is huge. She is not the best mother but she loves them and narcissism is not the only reason as some may suggest. She genuinely loves Joffrey despite everything he did and she never was the same person after his death. She is terrified about Tommenās future, she sees enemies everywhere and she loses it when he starts coughing because she thinks heās choking. She needed to be with Tommen so much, she was so worried that she performes the walk of atonement. She doesnāt want Myrcella to undergo the same experiences she had to live, she wants her daughter to be with her and not be a part of the game far away from her, she doesnāt want Myrcella to be a brood mare. She doesnāt know how to express it, she is not a perfect mother and she definitely does really fucked up things but she loves her children in her own broken way. Is that enough? Of course not. Love is not enough.Ā
3) WHY DOES SHE DO THAT? WHY IS SHE THE WAY SHE IS?
Her father was, indeed, a shitty parent. Cersei doesnāt know how to express her love properly and she strongly believes that respect and fear come in an indivisible pack and we all know Tywin was Not Great⢠at giving emotional support. Sheās just putting into practice what she learned and please, donāt forget that she considers herself to be Tywinās true heir so⦠letās just put two and two together, shall we?daddy issues are definitely a Lannister trait.
Narcissism is KEY. Iāve been saying this for years so this is going to surprise no one but Cersei and Jaimeās relationship is based, in part, on narcissism. They mirror each other, they believe theyāre a different gender version of each other and thatās just their fantasy. Cersei loves herself and she loves Jaime because he looks like her. Theyāre each otherās equals and thatās why they love each other. Thatās toxic and fucked up and I LOVE it and itās not that different when it comes to her children. She considers them extensions of herself and taking into account the role of women in Westeros, she is very much aware of the fact that theyāre the only way she has to obtain power for herself. Cersei is not only a mother. She wants power and she has a great ambition. She is the rightful heir and she was robbed of her rights again and again just because she doesnāt have a penis and sheās angry about that and she uses every tool in order to have power. Joffrey was her key to the iron throne and now itās Tommenās turn. She wants to rule through them since sheās unable to do it herself thanks to some stupid rules. Sheās angry and rightfuly so but still thatās not the best way to be a parent.
Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen are Jaimeās children too. She also loves them because of that. She was able to decide over her body, she made a choice and decided who was gonna be the father and sheās proud of that. Itās a huge āfuck you Robertā and you cannot blame her for that. It is also another proof of how much she loves Jaime AND how proud she is of her heritage. Theyāre 100% Lannister material and that makes her love them even more.
SHE IS HURTING. Especially after Joffreyās death she is not herself anymore. Sheās scared and angry and she feels helpless while the prophecy starts to loom over her. She is unhinged and she considers everyone an enemy so thatās why she tries to toughten Tommen up. She remembers Joffrey and she idealizes him and wishes Tommen was a little bit more like him. She really believes that making her son harder and crueller is gonna keep him away from danger, she believes he will be able to defend himself. She truly believes sheās doing the right thing.
She is not perfect. WE KNOW IT. She may not be the best mother out there but she fiercely loves her children. She has many reasons because there are many ways of reading her chapters and all of those reasons can be taken into account simultaneously and everything is a mess because, letās be real, weāre talking about Cersei Lannister here.I understand why she does what she does but sheās not a good mother and her children are the victims here. Does this mean I donāt like her? Hell, I love her. I see this and I love her. I enjoy this character more than any other but sheās extremely problematic and every single relationship she has is toxic as fuck. Iāve always known that and it doesnāt keep me from loving her so I actually do not see the problem. I do not understand the controversy here.Ā
And nowā¦
4) Saint Jaime. This wonāt take long, I promise.
This is like the story of a divorce. One parent stays with the children and they have to raise them and take care of them and deal with them everyday and fix their messes. They have to make decisions and be worried about the kids every single fucking day of their life because thatās their fucking responsability. They may suck at it but theyāre there and they try. They make mistakes but theyāre the ones who are there at night when the children catch a cold and theyāre running a fever. Meanwhile the other half of the couple is living the dream most of the time and when they sporadically visit the children everything is smiles and sunshine because they only have to put up with the kids for a few hours a month. Eventually, the children decide that the parent who has to yell at them and ground them is not cool at all and they prefer the person who comes once a month and is all patience and joy because pretending for a couple of hours is not that hard.
The cool parent here is Jaime.
The children seem to be a huge part of the fandom.
I hope Iāve made myself clear but in any case Iām gonna try to be clearer: Jaime doesnāt give a flying fuck about parenting. Being nice once doesnāt make you a good dad just the same way that loving your children fiercely doesnāt make you a good mum.Ā
JonCon vs. R+L=J
Ok but like... imagine JonCon learning about Jonās true identity.Ā
IMAGINE.
Everyone is like: Yeah, dude, we know it sounds like a lot of bullshit, we understand if you donāt believe us...
Meanwhile JonCon, sobbing uncontrollably & in the midst of a nervous breakdown:
āHe named... his son... after ME?!ā
TWoW: Jonās reaction to Sansaās arrival?
Iām re-reading the books, hoping to fall in love with Martinās world again before TWoW is finally released. Iām deep into ADwD now, reading through Alys Karstarkās arrival at the Wall. I forgot how Jon (thinking it was Arya at first) simply decided to just send her away to Braavos, as sheĀ ācouldnāt possibly stay thereā.
I wonder--if Sansa decides to go North in the books too, what will Jonās initial reaction be? Will it differ somehow? (I mean he had been murdered in the meantime, that certainly changes a man :P, but other than that: will he want to send her away, too? Or will we get anotherĀ āWhere will we go?ā)
George, hurry up! Iām dying here! :(
Look, it's been a year and I'm still not over the way D&D butchered GoT. Every single time that I see GRRM's name mentioned in the news, I'm hoping it's THE news. The one and only. (It never is, of course. And I genuinely think that it may never be--sadly, time and circumstance are not exactly on our side.)
But I long for some sort of closure, not gonna lie. After the show had ended, I never even tried and re-watched it--not even the first two seasons. The way everything blew in our faces, nothing made sense in the end, and countless storylines were brutally dropped without further ado... I feel physically repulsed by mere mention of GoT (I don't think I've ever experienced that. I've lived through my share of bad writing, but none of my other fandoms were murdered quite as spectacularly), and the only thing that could save me is another book.
Please, GRRM--don't do it for me. Do it for the sake of the story that you've been working on for literal decades, the one everybody now hates on because of two mediocre, painfully untalented dudes.
I beg of you.

Imagine Brynden was the one who personally bound Jaime, dragged and presented him to Robb.
