i don’t think it’s wrong for a being to call themself what they actually, literally are. i do think it’s important to understand how your words can be conveyed to others, and so i do think it’s important to be aware that the word ‘mutt’ is used as a slur against humans and can make poc uncomfortable, but i don’t think that means nonhumans have to stop using it.

i have heard “the first definition doesn’t erase the second” as an argument as to why we shouldn’t be able to use it, but i think it’s pretty hypocritical as an argument. it is true, undoubtedly. but conversely, the second definition also doesn’t erase the first. english words often mean more than one thing. it goes both ways.

and i think the people advocating for us not to use it are hypocritical in an additional way: there are lots of animals used as insults and slurs, but nobody has any problem with any others. heifer and cow have been used as slurs against women and fat women specifically; does that mean people can no longer use those words? does that mean folks who aren’t women can’t call themselves cowkin or cowhearted anymore? as a fat woman who has been called these slurs many times, i find that ridiculous.

i believe in curating your own online safe space. i believe in being responsible for your own triggers. i think it’s totally fair and valid for anyone who is uncomfortable with the word mutt to block those who use it. but i don’t think it’s fair to tell everyone who is using a word that was created to describe themself that they can/should no longer use it because other people of another species have used it derogatorily before. and i don’t think it’s fair to say they are racist for simply using a word on themself the way it was meant to be used. the same way i don’t think it’s fair to call cowkin misogynistic and fatphobic just for calling themselves cows. i would think differently if someone was calling others that word. but that’s not what’s happening.

and, like i mentioned in my other post, i find those arguing against it are too often using arguments like “you can’t use it because you’re human(-bodied)”. and it gets on my nerves so hard as a physical nonhuman. no, actually, not all of us are human(-bodied) and you shouldn’t be automatically assuming that. stop trying to tell nonhumans they aren’t what they say they are. stop trying to separate us from the animals we identify as. stop trying to reality check us. it might be offensive to call a human that, sure, but we are not human. stop treating us like we are human.

I remember quite a while back I watched a YouTube video about this girl who was an adult, but due to a disability (I think a tumor on the pituitary gland, something that interacted with hormones), she physically still looked like she was 7. She was talking about the struggles with people infantilizing her. Often getting dirty looks because she liked doing things that women her age often liked doing (ie wearing makeup, wearing skimpier clothes, drinking alcohol, ect).

In the comments section, there were so many people saying things like "Its sad she'll never be able to date or get married since she looks so young. Anyone interested in her would be a pedophile" or "shes gonna have to remain single forever, anyone interested in her would be gross."

First and foremost, adults who don't go through puberty are still adults. I am sick and tired of the infantilization of people with growth disorders and intersex people with severe forms of hypogonadism and/or androgen/estrogen insensitivity.

Second, so what if an adult who has not experienced puberty decides to date a MAP? It literally isn't harming anyone, and it's not "creepy" if the non-pubescent adult is aware of their partner's motivation for dating them. They're both adults, they're both capable of making their own decisions.
