lied about not having thoughts about grimoires actually i just thought about anders. 15 dead 20 injured
i think anders doesnt bring his circle grimoire with him when he runs away because 1) what's a better way of identifying a secret mage than finding a book with spells in their things and 2) he's always hated that thing. what he does bring is a few sheets of notes he ripped out that are hidden in enough code and shitty handwriting that he thinks they're probably indecipherable, and a few that karl wrote on when they were apprentices that he just prays no one sees. its not until vigils keep when he finds out there are still empty grimoires issued by the wardens for their mages that he takes to it with any enthusiasm. i imagine most mage wardens still elect to just use their personal grimoires, but its the first time he's seen them used outside of the circle, not for the chantry, so he stuffs his old pages in there and records everything he hadn't tried to write down before, and the new magic they're seeing from the darkspawn, whatever the hell is going on with justice, notes from the book on phylacteries the hero of ferelden gave him. he gets annoyed when velanna doesn't want to share notes like mages would do in the circle. and he takes that grimoire with him to kirkwall too, even when it's so battered and dirty you can't even tell it was warden-issued anymore. and it's a MESS he doesn't organize his notes, his handwriting is atrocious, it's stuffed full of notes on scraps of paper he just stuffed in, and half the pages of shitty doodles of cats in the corner
