He is so mad that she is better and purer than he is (in his own words) that he describes exactly how he wants to rape and murder her. He describes in detail how he wants to strip her down, tie her to a pole, fill her full of arrows, rape her, and at the moment of his climax, slit her throat.
So yes, by the time the rats were put in front of his face I was damn well rooting for the rats.
