I can put the Liar Game guys in Phi Brain, nobody's stopping me. I can put Kaito in more situations and imagine if someone had an armlet of orpheus in the liar game..... everyone else would be so cooked if like. Fukanaga or Yokoya got one.
If I wanna be quintuple insane I can put Coco in Liar Game with an armlet of orpheus lmao then nobody will know what I'm talking about
Nobody else can make this except me because I fully believe that I may be the only person on this earth all of these fandoms
this is meant positively by the way. sometimes you love the character so much you end up putting a piece of yourself in it to learn how it is to love yourself without realising and thats ok.

Ok for one, full disclosure, Liar Game is completely a brain blast thinking 6 steps ahead seinen. So if you like that check it out right away if not there are other good things about it. The premise is that Nao, an incredibly gullible person, is made to play games that are all based on winning or losing a huge amount of loaned money, so basically everyone playing is at risk of going bankrupt and owing a bunch of money to this shady company. She brings in Akiyama, a genius ex-con con artist, to help her and the two of them go through the games together and become friends while trying to take down the whole corporation. It's really sort of a communist propaganda manga. And I am serious about that once you get further along.
If you think that sounds awesome, yay, but where do you start? There is a manga AND a currently airing anime (in sub and dub. I've only been watching the sub so far but I will be going back when the run finishes). I would strongly suggest reading the manga first, because the art style is just beautiful and gorgeous and has a lot of little gothy flairs. It also has a serious attention to fashion that was kind of lost in the anime. That being said I am enjoying the anime A LOT, the manga is just a lot better. So if you're not a manga reading person, maybe the anime is still worth a try?
Hold on though. There are certain roadblocks you may hit with liar game but I'm telling you to persevere. Here are some things that might be an issue:
"Nao is too stupid." This is NOT TRUE!!! Just give her a chance. You have to love Nao. Yes Akiyama does get a lot of the genius scheme things but it's all the more awesome when Nao grows and learns. I know the gullible gimmick can be a little hard to stomach but if you roll with it it really works.
"The trans storyline is played weird." Okay, I think in the English translation of the manga they have a real pronoun problem that isn't in the original text, you just need to forgive it if that's the way you're going. Maybe not all translations. Eng sub of the anime avoids this entirely. Yes, there is a crossdressing reveal for a scheme, but if you just let it play out you'll see that the trans thing is awesome and honestly played pretty well. There are a couple of dated jokes in this vein but it's clear that Kaitani loves Fukunaga and isn't treating her as a punchline all things considered. And IS giving her a lot of cunty little outfits.
"It's too long and boring and they're always talking about stupid schemes." That's just how it is.
Also, it's necessary to say that the ending is kind of a dud. Not that it ruins the manga in any way, just the last game/ final reveal was not it's best work. (Though I'm really forgetting the specifics of that arc.) I think it's forgivable. I've heard that there's an alternate ending chapter that was released in a compilation printing but I have never been able to find it PERSONALLY. So I don't actually know what happens but people say it's better, and maybe the anime will go this direction.
tl;dr Basically, I luv Liar Game and think it's a really gorgeous manga with generally fun and engaging writing and more people should read it... I'm also having a great time with the anime. Obviously it is a very much scheme logic based story so if you don't like that it might not be for you. But I say try. And read the manga first if possible. And then watch the anime while it's airing so metrics go UP and then they release Liar Game merchandise worldwide.
Monday nights have become 'Liar Game Changer' nights, and every other week, I watch Game Changer with the thought in the back of my mind of 'How well could this be adapted into a round of the Liar Game?'
So uh...eventually a crack fic where Artier needs more rounds, is out of ideas and ends up taking inspiration from Sam Reich?
They made an anime of Liar Game (possibly my favorite manga ever) and nobody told me!! Whatever. I don't care what decade it is, I'll always be insane about Yokoya. Look at him, he sensed morals nearby. Ew
Great mages of old could cast magic at the power of the average man's spell from each of their ten fingers.
I got too bored and made a whole magic system!
There's a long description of how it works under the cut :D
Mana is a particle that's everywhere, like oxygen. It conducts magic in the way that metal conducts electricity.
As an example, imagine you're in a room FILLED with metal dust. These metal particles are tiny, invisible, and safe to breathe.
Now imagine you can create an electric pulse! Since the metal is all spread out, the charge will branch out until it fizzles into nothing.
Now imagine you can move these particles wherever you want! If you create almost a cable by compacting the metal dust in a specific path, the charge will probably take that path.
The "metal particle" in this example is mana, with the charge being a magic pulse!
In order to cast a spell, a magic user must first move the mana within their body, creating mana streams (cables from the example) leading from their core to where they want the magic to leave their body from. Then, they have to create a mana stream in the air before sending a magic pulse from their core to their target.
Putting more magic behind a spell requires a denser or thicker mana stream. More magic is more likely to take the wrong path, shooting in the wrong direction.
People can move the mana in anything they're touching. This includes themselves, as they need to make mana streams in their bodies to guide the spell that originates in their cores.
This also means that if you need to, it's not too difficult to run up to another caster and sabotage their spell by screwing with the mana streams in their bodies.
Technically you can move the mana inside of solid objects you're not touching, but it's way more difficult to grasp.
You're always touching the air, but it's so widespread that it's more difficult than just moving the mana in a stick you're holding.
Most mages some kind of magic focus (staff, wand, etc.) to avoid getting silverbite when they cast spells. Mana is kind of glittery and silvery, so gathering mana in one spot for too long can leave a sore silvery bruise where magic leaves the caster's body. Silverbite can scar, becoming permenant.
Casting through a focus continues a caster's mana streams from inside their bodies into an object the they're holding, letting the spell leave that instead! Well-used focuses will also have a shiny or silvery tip.
Most young casters are taught to use focuses to avoid silverbite, but lots of self-taught mages have silver palms or fingers with silvery tips.
You can technically cast from anywhere on your body, but most choose to cast from their hands.
Some casters choose to cast through both of their hands, splitting the mana stream in their body, thus splitting the magic output of the spell between each of their hands. Incredibly strong mages will sometimes split their mana streams even between their fingers!
There's two different kinds of spells: Impact spells and Travelling spells.
Impact spells only activate when the spell has an impact with something else, or when the mana stream it's following has a sudden change in density. The best mages can move mana within their bodies to where the spell will hit so that impact spells pass right through them!
Travelling spells are active as soon as they leave your body or based on other conditions, like most fire spells! The simplest to control fire spells activate when they hit oxygen, so the fire will light as soon as it leaves your body.
One of the things I like most about this magic system is how wizard battles would work.
To aim a spell at someone, you have to make a mana stream running from you to them! They can use that against you, casting their own spells through your mana stream.
They can also redirect mana streams so that the spell aims somewhere else instead.
A mage skilled at moving mana might also be able to sense a mana stream pointing right at them and be able to dodge in time!
Mana moves around the world kind of like weather. Some days will have thicker or thinner mana, and the wind might make mana streams more difficult to maintain.
This leaves room for areas that are naturally high or low in mana! There could be an island with almost no mana at all being used to jail or hold strong mages captive. There could be a magic forest where the mana is so thick that spells can quickly lose control!
Speaking of animal adaptations, there could be a blind or noctournal animal that adapted to use mana to sense their prey.
Mana-thick forests might also have plant and animal life that have adapted to have naturally low mana so that uncontrolled magic events are less likely to affect them.
And prey that adapted to dump all of their mana when they feel they're in danger to hide from said predator!
