Anyway I went on to say that there are 5 major executive functions of the human brain.  These are the ‘higher functions’ that really distinguish between a human brain and that of any other animal.  We have added intelligence on top of that, but these are the functional abilities our brains have that the rest of the animal kingdom does not have on a a structural level.  There are 5 of them.  ADHD affects all 5.  And none of them are actually ‘attention’ (the closest function to anything that can reasonably be called ‘attention’ is what’s called Working Memory, which is your brain’s ability to hold a specific task in mind to come back to it; distractions are inevitable, but a healthy brain will hear a phone ring, look up, and remember to go back to what it was doing before.  An ADHD brain will hear the phone riBANG ALL MEMORY OF THE CURRENT TASK IS GONE.  ADHD brain looks up, sees the name on the caller id, oh it’s an unknown number, oh it’s probably some political pollster, oh man this year’s election is just awful I can’t believe people are supporting that angry cheeto. Oh cheetos I’m hungry I should go make a snack.  What kind of snacks do we have?  Did I remember to buy cereal at the store the other day?  What about dog food?  Oh my god I forgot to let the dog back in the house this is why I should have gotten a cat.  Oh my friend sent me a great cat video earlier I should watch that.  AND GUESS WHAT YOU NEVER GO BACK TO WHAT YOU WERE DOING BECAUSE THE STRUCTURE IN YOUR BRAIN THAT SUPPORTS RETURNING TO A PARTIALLY COMPETED TASK DOES NOT EXIST THE WAY IT DOES FOR A NORMAL HEALTHY BRAIN.  This is why even if you start a task well before a deadline you can’t keep to it until it’s been completed; the consequences of it being done MUST be more compelling than everything else in the immediate environment for the brain to see it.  No matter how much time you give yourself to complete the task, if you have ADHD it will take you 100% of that time, every time, which is why having ADHD actually TEACHES YOU to put things off, because it’s the only way to shorten the total time actually spent completing the task – the disorder rewards you for self-destructive behavior because it’s the only way you can get things done at all, and you end up living in a permanent state of extreme stress, hopping from one emergency deadline to the next even though you hate yourself for it every single time).  The disorder has been horribly named in a way that trivializes just how serious and life-ruining it actually is.

Hey Good Omens fandom?? Or more precisely the shitty people who steal everybody's art under the pretense they're curating an art gallery?? JUST DON'T?!? If an artist gave you permission, sure! If they don't, IF YOU DON'T EVEN ASK, that makes you a shitty person.

I mean, they could start galleries in social media that allows you to retweet and reblog, but no, they got to steal.

If you see my art in any account that is not under my name (Talhi), you can be pretty sure they have it without permission. I only allow my art to be reposted by people who translate it, and because they ask nicely.

Listen to this, just as an example how reposting-- even with the link back to the artist, sucks:

It was the Baby Omens picture, where you see adult Crowley caring for an angelic Baby Aziraphale, and adult Aziraphale caring for a demonic baby Crowley. It was meant as something cute, a silly de-aged spell AU, and I added more pictures and more lore to that story in my posts under a hashtag. 

My followers got the story, and participated, and asked questions, and we built a story together through several days of interaction. 

But now, this picture was reposted without description to a facebook fan site, and people there started a discussion on how it was “weird” that characters that are usually hypersexualised had to raise each other. Ok like, first, what the hell? Second- Way to blame me for an entire fandom, geez. But mostly? Third: Without context people assume the wrong thing. 

And that’s how the cutest, most innocent picture, reposted without the consent and control of the artist, makes people jump to wrong conclusions on the art, and the artist. 

As for more immediate, monetary consequences? Like many people, I just lost my job, and I’m putting all my hopes and dreams on the Fantasy novel I’m releasing in the following weeks. I’m gearing all my efforts into a promotional campaign through my social media. IF PEOPLE TAKE MY BEST WORK OUT OF MY SOCIAL MEDIA, I DON’T GET NEW FOLLOWERS, I LOSE BUYERS. 

“But Talhí!” You’re going to say. “I linked back to your account! People are going to follow the link!”

Well, first, you’re wrong, and second, I hate you. Third:

EVERY CLICK IS IMPORTANT.  This is something you learn in website design. Every click a person has to do reduces the chance they see your content.

So, let’s say a person is on instagram, and searches for Aziraphale/Crowley art. If the same picture is posted twice, once on the gallery of the original artist, and another time, on a fan group that reposts stolen art, IT SPLITS THE CHANCES OF THAT PERSON GOING TO THE ARTIST’S ACCOUNT BY TWO. Now add all the fan groups who repost art. Now add in the algorithms who promote highly viewed and commented pictures. 

People are lazy with clicks. If they can see all the content they want in an account that steals images, they won’t search for the artists. A very minuscule minority will follow the link. That’s not enough. 

IF I MAKE ART, I DESERVE ALL THE VIEWS AND ALL THE CLICKS. 

Other thing-- They link back to where they find it. That’s usually tumblr. But I don’t want people to be linked to my tumblr. It’s a dying platform and at this point, I use is as a personal journal. I don’t want people from the outside to come to my tumblr. I’d rather them follow my more curated and professional accounts, like Instagram, Twitter, and my Facebook group. 

Even by linking back they remove whatever control I have, the control I NEED to have, to maintain my online presence.
