“One of the strongest feelings I remember from my childhood is, precisely, of being humiliated; of being knocked about by words, acts, or situations. Isn’t it a fact that children are always feeling deeply humiliated in their relations with grown-ups and each other? I have a feeling children spend a good deal of their time humiliating one another. Our whole education is just one long humiliation, and it was even more so when I was a child. One of the wounds I’ve found hardest to bear in my adult life has been the fear of humiliation, and the sense of being humiliated. Every time I read a review, for instance — whether laudatory or not — this feeling awakes. To humiliate and be humiliated, I think, is a crucial element in our whole social structure.”

gotta love that even in a world ruled over by incomprehensible gods there’s still corporate drudgery
My father and mother were Gregory and Sandra Glass. My grandmother was Adalina Glass. My brother was Em. They died for you. Every single one of them died for you, and they thought it meant something. My name is Carpenter. And I am still alive.

I've had this idea kicking around in my head for. I think actual years now atp. so it was really great to have the zine to finally motivate me to make it real! thanks so much to the zine organisers it's been an absolute pleasure to contribute!
While his trans identity is not a major factor to his story arc in the text, Faulkner being a trans man is integral to his overaching character as someone desperate to be taken seriously and infuriated at being perpetually infantilized and humored by those around him. His desperate need for others to see him as he sees himself (not so much a man at the time we know him in the podcast, but as a prophet) parallels the trans experience of public perception and rejection. But in his desperation and reliance on the opinions of others to form and reinforce his identity, he consequently slides down the path of lies and self-delusion that trans people are often accused of when choosing to live as their true gender. In this essay I will
carpenter and faulkner as siblings who just met did not grow up together do not share a guardian and are not genetically related WORKED because their entire storyline was based around how fucking miserable it is to have someone who's family and who nonetheless is so fundamentally opposed to you and who is so much like you and yet so different from you that it's torture. they were a chosen family that really wanted to Unchoose each other and yet couldn't fucking stop themselves and that is SOOOOO COMPELLING. silt verses did found brother/sister right. & no one is ever going to do it that right again, so. we don't need to try. No More Found Siblings .

"The America I loved still exists, if not in the White House or the Supreme Court or the Senate or the House of Representatives or the media. The America I love still exists at the front desks of our public libraries."
-Kurt Vonnegut, A Man Without a Country
Worth remembering this weekend.
i am terminally A Sucker for characters who have a towering and generally earned ego about their own ability and absolutely no self-worth about themselves as a person at all. intoxicating combo.

A lot of internet-famous people--guy who can pick any lock, guy who can make anything out of chocolate, guy who can drink lots of water without spilling a drop--are like characters a five-year-old would make up for a comic book.
