I haven't seen or read the Odyssey, so I truly don't have a dog in this fight, but all the criticism I've been seeing on tumblr has had me rolling my fucking eyes 🙄 So I appreciated your commentary on it as a piece of art rather than some untouchable sacred text. #the odyssey 2026 #what a wonderful way to word this #as a lover of retellings and also a hater i understand the urge to protect what you love and get up in arms about changes #i understand the concept of missing the point and have that critique about things myself #but for the odyssey and greek myths in general i love how it is told over and over and over and we see something new every time #i'm sure its frustrating for classicists who love the original text and meaning #but i love seeing something new in an old story #the criticisms are correct and so is the praise #and we're gonna sing it again and again
