People always talk about how Vi and Caitlyn's lesbian situationship breakup resulted in Vi becoming an underground fighter and Caitlyn becoming a dictator. It is a really common, really funny meme. But I never actually see anyone talk about the way that Vi's whole life has been leading to this mental breakdown, because it is actually a really interesting aspect of her character to explore.
Her entire life, Vi has never had someone that she could depend on, that she could lean on. She's always been the person that people are leaning on. Vander tells her, presumably more often than just the one moment we saw on screen: "If anything happens to those kids, it's on you." She leaned on Vander to a certain extent, but he put so much pressure on her. Vi's life was defined by the people that she fought for. She had Powder, then she had Mylo and Clagger, and then she was in prison and she could only focus on herself. She doesn't trust anybody else. And just in general, she has learned that she cannot rely on anybody except for herself.
Then along came Caitlyn and got her out of that prison where she spent seven years rotting since she was sixteen years old, which is such a hellscape of a situation to be in. Obviously, Vi does not trust her at first, but Caitlyn earns that trust. Caitlyn is then with her for the rest of Season 1 and the beginning of Season 2, the grounding or stable factor in her life that "won't change." Caitlyn is the sole thing that stays the same, which makes her the sole thing keeping Vi sane. Vi trusted her, even though she has never had someone that she can rely on. Vi has never leaned on someone, and it took so much for her to get to that moment where she could trust someone, anyone.
When Vi and Caitlyn break up, Vi is watching that grounding, stable, reliable relationship shatter, and that is the straw that breaks the camel's back. Caitlyn tries to shoot Jinx, even if it means risking shooting a child. This is the beginning of the end because these are Vi's own people. She already didn't like that they were using the Gray against them, which is even beyond the enforcer brutality that she had always feared as a child. Vi had been able to ignore it up until that point, but the fact that her girlfriend was willing to go that far meant that from that point on, Vi could never look at her the same way.
I think even when they reunite in Season 2, when they mutually apologize, there is always going to be that level of mistrust that stems from a childhood of evading the same corrupt enforcers that Caitlyn nearly became. Caitlyn says, "I keep telling myself that you're different... but you're not. It's her blood in your veins." Caitlyn is talking about Jinx's blood, but this statement extends to all people from the Undercity. So when Caitlyn turns against Vi, when she hits her, that trust is instantly broken.
This leaves Vi in an uncertain state where, for the first time in her life, she has no purpose. First, her purpose was to be a kid and obviously survive the Undercity, but to be a kid. Then her parents died, and her purpose was to keep Powder safe. Then her purpose was to keep Mylo and Clagger safe. Then Mylo and Clagger died, and she was sent to prison, and her purpose was getting out of prison to go find her sister. And then she found out that Powder became Jinx. Then her purpose was to be Cait's girlfriend, and to help her through the loss of her mother, and to find Jinx and bring her to justice.
After the breakup, however, her sister is out there alone, and Cait's abandoned her, and she is completely lost. Nobody is relying on her, and she doesn't know what to do with that. So she breaks. Vi spent her entire life fighting to protect other people. Without someone else to fight for, she fights to self-destruct. Because isn’t fighting all she's good for?
Just food for thought beyond the toxic yuri breakup stereotypes. (By the way, I don't hate Caitlyn at all! This post may make it seem that way, but it is written entirely from Vi's perspective, which makes it skewed towards her.)
Pretty sure I'm burned out but also I can't tell if I'm just tired as my sleep schedule is nonexistent so what if I'm being dramatic but what if i am actually burned out but I'm functioning so it's probably fine it's definitely not fine but I still tell people it's fine because if people know that I'm not fine the world will end because I have people that will be worried about me and so I will become a burden and the world will end-
I dissapeared but I'm alive I promise It's just that free time doesn't exist tbh
There's nothing like finally meeting up with a really close friend who lives far away, talking to them for hours, and then parting, knowing that you won't see them again for 6 months to a year.

Life is like cold pizza. Some people like it, but I genuinely can't understand why.
no grave can hold my body down
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Words: 2,192
Published: 2025-11-10
Chapters: 1/1
Summary:
Jason, despite what one might think, did not wake up all at once. Instead, his eyes blinked open, half-lidded, caught in that dreamlike plane of existence between awareness and the unconscious.
or
Jason Todd wakes up in a grave, his confused and terrified brain clinging to any scrap of comfort it can find. This comes in the form of mothers.
or
And I was burnin′ up a fever
I didn't care much, how long I lived
But I swear I thought I dreamed her
She never asked me once about the wrong I did
When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I′ll crawl home to her
- Hozier
Writer culture is realizing that the characters are suddenly being able to do whatever they want, and instead if I, their creator, controlling them, all I can do is write about their actions and pray it turns out okay. And then the comments are like, "I'm so scared for how this will end! Any hints?" I DON'T KNOW I AM JUST AS SCARED AS YOU😭
.
Writer culture is listening to a song and then writing a whole-ass novel because the song gave you a vibe (and currating far too many playlists in the meantime)
.
Writer culture is saying that the fic isn't beta read because it technically isn't, but you have shown the chapter to like five of your friends before you published it. They didn't beta read or edit, but they did tell you it was good to increase your motivation and give you the dopamine to finally finish the update!

Writer tip: save your work as a draft, fully tagged, when you have only written like two sentences. The one month deadline to finish the one-shot/first chapter with the threat of losing all that hard work you spent adding both correct and witty tags will give you motivation. I promise you. You get so much more done, and you won't procrastinate for months because you can't without losing the work you put in! It's brilliant!!
I live in America and everything is going to shit. Real life is so inconceivably ridiculous right now that The Onion is going to run out of headlines.
NO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!
Dick was the angry, grieving, would fight a tree if it did him wrong Robin and Jason was the happy, magic, always-smiling Robin. This makes it all the more heartwarming to watch Dick grow into Nightwing: bright, relatively well-adjusted, and supportive (if a little depressed), and all the more heartbreaking to watch Jason grow into Red Hood: dark, bitter, angry, and trigger-happy.
GET IT RIGHT.
Does anybody ever just kinda wonder what it would be like to live in a cartoon 2D world? Imagine what that would be like, where everything is flat? How would that even work? Would you be aware of the fact that you are 2D? Would there be depth? How would distance and travel work? Would it just be where everything is paper cutouts? I think about this too often.

When you need to make your bed, but your pillows and blankets are perfectly messy in the way that just cocoons you in warmth and fluffiness, a nest of comfort, and putting everything in the right place will completely ruin it.
It is so ridiculous that homework is a thing. I mean, obviously kids don't like it, but beyond that, what are we even doing here? With adults, people are all about keeping work and life separate! Because it is good for your mental health! But apparently kids are dramatic for feeling burned out with the hours of homework that they have every night!
And colleges are looking for the student that has good grades, a perfect GPA, is well rounded, shows leadership in multiple clubs, specialized in specific extracurriculars, does sports, has gone through hardship (but not bad enough that is affected their academic performance), is popular, has a social life, gets 8 hours of sleep, wakes up early every day, has a job, and isn't burned out. Like, please be realistic!
A potential day could be school for 7 hours, plus 4 hours of homework, plus an hour of a club, plus a 2 hour sport meet/game, plus a 2 hour extracurricular, plus 8 hours of sleep, plus 4 hours of work, plus 3 hours of social time, that is already 30 hours! And where is the down time?!?!
People wonder why kids are struggling, and yet treat them ways that no adult would live with! If your job told you, oh, yeah, to work here you have to do multiple hours of extra work for no extra pay, you would quit. It is literally againt the law! Teens are mini adults, but their brains are still developing. Why, if it is absolutely not okay to treat a full grown, fully developed adult that way, would it ever be okay to treat a teen that way?!
