You know how they had a funeral for Will and everyone believed that he was dead? And how the government had a vested interest in that belief going unchallenged? And how presumably there was paperwork that maybe they even rushed through? ... Do you think Will ever encounters any clerical issues relating to his apparent demise? Like, he's trying to apply for something or fill something out or whatever, and there's a problem that becomes a bureaucratic nightmare to resolve because he's technically still dead on paper somewhere because the federal government wanted him to be? And now he's gotta deal with that shit and it's just a giant fucking headache?

Post defeating Vecna, El gets really into sports. It’s a no-risk way of emulating all her training and the constant way she had to fight through her childhood. After everything is over, she’s super jittery and can’t still still long enough to do her crafts like before, so Lucas suggests joining his training for a bit, and she has so much fun and can finally relax afterwards, so she starts to join him properly.

She tries a ton of different sports, but I think she’d always gravitate back to basketball. It’s the one she started with, that reminds her of Lucas, and she can use her hands in a way separate from her powers. It feels natural but so, so different. I think she’d also love stuff like ice hockey, for the freedom skating feels like.

Sometimes I think about Joyce and Terry because they’re narrative mirrors of the other. When Joyce looks at Terry, she is seeing what happens to mothers who question and fight the system. But she is also seeing a mother who loved and fought for her baby as fiercely as she’s been fighting for Will.

And I don’t think the show fully acknowledges how much meeting Terry changed the rules for Joyce. Because she is seeing what is at stake, what the lab will do to her if she pushes too hard and fails. But more notably is the fact that “Eleven” is no longer a mysterious weapon or experiment. She is Jane Ives. She has a mother and nursery that’s been waiting over a decade for her to come home.

And I think that completely rewrote the rules for Joyce because as desperately as she wants Will back, she won’t let it be at the cost of someone else’s baby.

What do you think of the fans that claimed that the writer’s intended for Will’s love for Mike to be some sort of weakness that was dragging him down and he needed to get over him in order to reach his full potential?

I don’t really mind if it’s interpreted that way? It’s not really unfounded. It’s close to the reality: His love for/crush on Mike was more of a vehicle for self realization honestly. That crush was the way he realized he was gay, and being in love and allowing himself to feel that love made him feel like he wasn’t a mistake and was better for being different. The “weakness” (not my choice of words) was that he attributed this feeling to Mike instead of to himself in allowing himself to be free. Once he accepted that truth, he reached his “full potential” (powers)—and only then could he begin the healing process of getting over his crush on Mike.
