i think a fundamental misunderstanding of laura palmers character is the idea that she was secretive and private about her sadness. while it’s true that there was a lot she didn’t let people in on in her life her sadness was definitely not part of That. she was going door to door sobbing at peoples houses and also just in any public space possible. it’s not that people didn’t understand she was sad it was just that nobody gaf

so fascinating to me how Donna Hayward has clearly lived in Laura Palmer's shadow all her life. she's defined herself by being Laura's best friend. she doesn't have much else. so naturally she loses the biggest part of her identity once Laura is dead. and Donna feels like she has to become Laura now because there has to be a Laura. if there is going to be a Donna there has to be a Laura
