Kuai Liang shivered, having never been so cold before. As he rubbed his arms, he could feel the snow melting under his legs. He wanted to stand and run after the receding figures, but he couldn't. Soon enough, they disappeared over the horizon.

Kuai Liang let his shoulders sag as he stared at the ground. Snow continued to fall and melt around him.

He heard crunching and turned to see two familiar figures once more. But they were shadows and they walked by him, as if he wasn't there. He reached out, desperate to feel their hands–or just one.

And once again they disappeared over the horizon.

Kuai Liang looked around, the eternal twilight providing just enough light to see more and more pairs walking by. Never a trio like it had been when they were young–always those two. Just them. Sometimes they were fighting, other times they were laughing. Sometimes, Kuai Liang would see one alone and despondent. 

There was a faint outline that would trail behind some of them, but that familiar little outline would fade away, forgotten and unwanted.

It was then Kuai Liang realized this was his true fate–he had brothers, but they were not his to be with.
