I see a lot about the team panicking about who's going to fix them when Medic gets injured, but I never see anything about how Whumpee’s stomach drops when they get back to the others, bleeding heavily, only to see Medic passed out cold in another teammate's lap.

(in my experience, bc this was the first thing i wrote after waking up from surgery a couple hours ago)
since you can’t eat beforehand, I went in pretty grumpy-hungry but believe me, nervousness takes care of that QUICK and i completely forgot
if you have good staff, they notice when you‘re nervous & chat calmly without overwhelming you
anesthesiologists and other staff members repeatedly ask what surgery you are getting done to make sure you were properly informed and to avoid mixups; made me nervous (bc why did no one know what surgery they were doing with me??) until my anesthesiologist explained that they just have to hear me say the words
during prep, different people will be doing different things and giving instructions on what to do (make a fist, put your arm there, etc.), sometimes overlapping (adhd hell)
the face mask was placed over my mouth and nose with just normal breathing air for like 3 minutes while they were still prepping (i assume to get me used to the sensation?)
once the drugs started coming, my very very first instinct was „oh, i‘m gonna throw up“
i didn‘t throw up but then everything went hazy and blurred, kinda like being REALLY tired-drunk
one of the anesthesiologists was standing behind me and caressing my face while talking to me and promising to take care of me when she noticed i was getting freaked out; the other one was administering the drugs
no need to count or having to talk until passed out, they just told me to close my eyes and that was it
being wheeled around in the bed is kinda surreal because you only see the ceiling (blurry too in my case since i wasn’t wearing my glasses) and hear everything around you. it is strangely protected but also vulnerable since in that moment you have no ability to decide what happens
before you go into the operating room you are first wheeled into a room where you transfer from bed to operating table, but the room is super creepy and looks straight out of a medical horror game, with the sterile cold metal table in the middle and all
when you are wheeled into the operating room it is super cold but they put a warm, fluffy blanket fresh out of a towel warmer or something all around you and it is heavenly warm
my surgeon came in and i didnt recognize him masked up and without my glasses, and he made a joke about how i might not recognize him after either (there was risk of blinding me, diabolical joke to make) so the anesthesiologists banished him from the room
the anesthesiologists will try to find a topic to chat to you about as a distraction while strapping you in and as someone who is socially awkward, it is much more stressful than the thought of surgery itself
but they are used to the awkwardness and discussed how you would intubate a giraffe (came up because my sister is an anesthesiologist for animals) and that was the last discussion we had before i went to sleep
small appreciation post for collapsing while still conscious
ok as much as i love a good faint im also a huge sucker for when a character collapses but is still conscious, maybe just dizzy or weak
stumbling or tripping on something and falling to their knees, too weak to stand up again
weak from fever or low blood sugar and failing to get out of a chair, lying on their back or side while the dizziness subsides (i actually had a fic planned for this at one point)
slumping into a chair because they cant stand anymore
reaching out to a table or wall for support and sliding to the floor (!!!)
sitting on the floor already but they slump to the side out of exhaustion
that thing where they throw their arm across their eyes out of exhaustion or dizziness (honestly one of my favorites)
there are probably a lot more im missing rn so feel free to add on!!
character with a foot/ankle/leg/hip injury trying to take a step, only to discover the injured limb won't support their weight as it gives way beneath them
character who hasn't lost enough blood to lose consciousness, maybe not even enough for it to be really dangerous, but they overwork themselves and they're suddenly hit by a dizzy spell and wind up on the ground waiting for their vision to come back
exhausted, relieved collapse into a friend/teammate/loved one's arms when they realize they're finally safe and can stop running
An ill or injured character is lagging farther and farther behind the group they're part of as their strength wanes so that when they do try to reach out for help and then finally collapse nobody else is aware until quite a ways on when they glance back and see a crumpled figure on the ground in their wake.

I love it when Whumpee is leaning on things. They're dizzy, nauseous, in too much pain to stand, or just plain tired, and they can't get by without some kind of support.
Leaning on cabinets and against walls in people's houses. Propping their head up with their hands at the dining table. Steadying themself against a banister on the stairs. Holding on to the post of the traffic light for dear life while they wait to cross the road because if they stand still unsupported they will fall to the ground.
It's such a small display of I am not feeling good, but once another character notices it becomes so obvious. This person is weak and vulnerable. Either I can help them, or I can hurt them further. It's not like they're in any position to stop me.
a friendly reminder that even a light fever, a few hours of missed meals, or even a little bit of dehydration can become a huge problem with the right kind of physical activity. if you want to make your kind-of-sick whumpee pass out from exhaustion, have them carry heavy things for a bit. like groceries, or laundry, or cleaning that requires them to move through the house a lot. you don't need a serious problem to make serious symptoms :)
Which is better - the slow and seemingly never-ending dull throb and pierce of a deep wound being stitched, eventually becoming almost repetitive enough that the pain fades into the background, only for it to remain long after it's finished --
Or the quick and sudden but near excruciating pain of a cauterization, unable to prepare for even if it comes with a warning, so hot and sharp it takes the breath away and is almost as biting as the wound itself was...
what about a stitched wound becoming infected... the throbbing pain increasing over time instead of dulling, heat and swelling traveling further, skin horribly sensitive to the touch beneath stained bandages, and a weak and feverish whumpee crying out in ineffective protest as their friends have to re-open and clean the wound all over again
I raise you further, the screaming pain of disinfectant being poured into an open wound, long & sustained as it must be worked into every crevice of the cut or else it will all be for naught. And more likely than not it will need to be cleaned again before the wound is fully shut, sooner if it becomes contaminated. Whumpee thrashing as they are held down so their wound can be cleaned, exhausting themselves before their companions even get a chance to stitch the damn thing shut. Unable to do anything but whine as their wound is sutured shut

Welcome to the 2026 Whumperless Whump Event, where we celebrate all kinds of situational, accidental and environmental whump! If this is your first time, welcome in--if you've been here before, thanks for coming back!
FAQ and text version under the cut!
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Where can I find the prompts list?
A: @whumperless-whump-event on Tumblr.
Q: How are the prompts divided?
A: Each day has a "title" or a vague theme, followed by two tropes and one dialogue prompt.
Q: Can I use the title as a prompt?
A: Absolutely.
Q: Do I have to use all of the prompts?
A: Not at all.
Q: Can I use all the prompts?
A: Absolutely.
Q: If I'm writing a chronological story, can I swap days to fit the timeline?
A: Yes, just make sure you tag your days and prompts appropriately. If you're writing for day 6, but you post it on day 12, tag day 6, not day 12.
Q: Can I have early or late entries?
A: Yes. This is a very laid back event, and meant mainly to inspire lots of whumperless whump. It's not a strict writing challenge.
Q: Is there an Ao3 collection?
A: Yes! This year's collection is linked here. The parent collection also includes 2024 and 2025--make sure you select 2026.
Q: Can I write [insert anything here]?
A: Yes. However, this blog will not reblog certain topics (ex. nsfw or suicide), so please tag your works appropriately, so anyone can filter out anything they don't want to see.
Q: Can I use AI?
A: No.
Q: Can a whumper be included in the prompt fill?
A: The short answer is no. The long answer is that you cannot have the role of whumper in your prompt fill (aka: no whumper-on-whumpee); however, if the character you want to be a whumpee or a caretaker happens to be a whumper, then as long as they are not fulfilling the role of whumper, it's fine. Also, if there is a whumper, it must be totally impersonal and faceless. Here are some examples for clarification:
A character's drink is spiked at a party.
OKAY: The whumper who spiked the drink is never mentioned and is completely faceless, and the story is directly about whumpee recovering.
NOT WHUMPERLESS: The whumper who spiked the drink kidnaps the whumpee.
A character is left alone in a storm.
OKAY: The character is stranded or lost.
NOT WHUMPERLESS: Whumper tied them to a post and left them in the storm.
A character is mugged on the street.
OKAY: The whumper is a stranger, faceless, and the focus is on Whumpee.
NOT WHUMPERLESS: The whumper is a stalker and there to kidnap Whumpee.
All in all, if your goal is to fulfill the event, then try to avoid a whumper. If you're using the prompts elsewhere, then ignore this, but in the spirit of the event, no whumper roles please.
Q: How do I tag my posts?
A: Tag with #whumperless whump event, #wwevent 2026 and #wwevent day [x](Don't just tag wwe, that's wresting.) Make sure to tag the fill type (art, fic, music, etc) with #fic, #art, #et cetera. Then, tag triggers and content warnings. Please put these first in the tag order! It just makes it easier to reblog.
Q: How do I get reblogged?
A: Mention this blog in your post! It's the easiest way for me to find you. Otherwise, I won't reblog it. (This also means if you do not want your post reblogged to the event, just don't mention the blog, and it'll stay private.)
Q: I disagree with something/have an issue with a prompt/want to address a problem. How should I do it?
A: Send me an ask and we can fix it. I am more than willing to work through any problems--I am human, and not without fault.
I think that's about it. That's a lot, so if you've got any other questions that aren't on the list, feel free to shoot me an ask. I'm happy to help!

also facades and false identities are so fun . many such variations.
someone accidentally slipping further into a facade than they intended . someone purposefully retreating further into a facade . someone accidentally dropping their normally impeccable facade for a moment . someone purposefully letting their facade down as a taunt or mockery or in a genuine way because they're finally in a situation where they don't need the facade anymore . someone whose facade really is just a tool that they have complete control over and it never falters or fails . someone whose facade is the opposite and they're having a really bad time trying to maintain their facade or trying to maintain their true self under the facade . many such good options. all fun.
i love you facades and false identities and presentations of the self and separation of aspects of the self and
Someone trying their absolute damn hardest to hold down meds or fever reducers for just enough time that they work. Thinking oh my god, please, just don’t puke those up. Just 20 minutes. You can do 20 minutes.
