Whumpee who was never allowed to think for themself being forced to slowly start making decisions because Caretaker wants them to be their own person.
Caretaker starts off with very small things, always asking This or That questions to keep it easier on Whumpee who clearly doesnt want to do this. "Do you want to sleep on the bed or the floor?", "Would you like eggs or waffles for breakfast?", "Do you want to wear a hoodie or a T-shirt?" - All things that should be easy questions.
Except they're not easy for Whumpee. Every question asked is followed by 5 minutes of silence while Whumpee tries to figure out what Caretaker wants them to say, wanting to make sure they do whatever is "right".
Caretaker respects every choice they make. Whumpee chooses to sit on the floor to eat instead of at the table? Great. Everyone will sit on the floor with Whumpee now. Whumpee wants to wear a hoodie even though it's sweltering outside? No problem. The air conditioner will be on blast.
The first time Whumpee asks for something without being prompted by Caretaker feels like a miracle.
Whumper taking captive/pet whumpee out to a nice restaurant for the first time.
The conflict that whumpee feels, between the relief of being somewhere normal, the pleasure and luxury of having a nice meal, and a fine wine—
and the way their heart thumps in the chest with tension. Should they try to escape while they're in public? Could they escape if they tried? Would the people here help them, or look down on them for making a scene, and turn them back over to whumper?
Whumper catches Whumpee thinking about it. "You look distracted. Have some more wine."
They top up their glass from the bottle. Reach over and stroke their knuckles across whumpee's jaw.
"You look like you're facing a firing squad instead of a restaurant menu. Don't sweat it, sweetheart, I'll order for you."
Whumpee's lip trembles. What can they even say to that? What can they do?
Lorena is so funny cuz she really thinks Mimi is gonna willingly become her slave/wife/doll/pet. That their love will be so true, that she'll allow herself to be brutalized for Lorena's pleasure. She's gonna be very unhappy when she finds out that's not the case.
It's ok though, true love doesn't have to be mutual, right? 🩷

<---- Part 3
Milena awoke to find herself warm in bed. She shot up in a panic and looked around, groggy and confused. She was in what appeared to be an old office, there was a large stained glass window on the other side of the room, under that, there was a desk with books strewn about on top. The bed she was in was quite large and had silk sheets with a soft, thick comforter on top. Milena heard Lorena's voice in the next room. Had she fallen asleep at the boutique? How'd she get here?
She got out of bed and followed the woman's voice. Upon opening the door, she realized she was back in the bookstore. Going down the hallway she found Lorena chatting with Cedric by the desk. They both turned around when she entered the room, Cedric's face was unreadable, but Lorena burst into a grin. "There she is! You sleep like a rock, y'know that?" She chuckled.
"What time is it? How long did I sleep?" Milena asked. Lorena checked her watch,"Hmmm, you slept for about....5 hours." Milena was in shock, 5 hours?? She was about to say something, but Lorena cut her off. "I don't want to hear any apologies. You were exhausted and clearly needed the sleep. I carried you home because I wanted to, not because I had to." Milena blushed, feeling flustered by her apparent predictability.
Lorena giggled and booped her on the nose. "How was the bed? Cedric set it up while we were gone." Milena looked at the man in surprise. "You set that up?! Where did you even find such a large mattress? Not to mention the frame itself." Cedric's lips curved into a small smile, "I live to serve, My Lady." Lorena shook her head, "I don't know how he does it either. But I trust the mattress met your standards?" Milena laughed, "Considering I've been sleeping on the ground for the past three years, my standards aren't particularly high. But yes, that mattress is the most comfortable thing I've slept on in my entire life." Lorena grinned, "That's a relief considering what I wanted to talk to you about." She gave Cedric and look which he took as his queue to leave. Milena watched him go to the back offices before turning back to Lorena.
Lorena stood up and guided Milena to the antique loveseat near the fireplace. They sat down and Lorena took her by the hand. "Mimi, I know- I know you fully intended to leave soon. That no matter what I say, you think that you're somehow taking advantage of me." Her voice quavered. "But... I want you to stay here with me. I know-" she took a shaky breath. "I know we've only just met each other and maybe I'm just crazy, but, I really care about you. I look at you and all I want is to protect you from the world that hurt you. To give you what you deserve. I-" her eyes became glassy. "I'm sorry. I know this is a lot and that I'm...... intense. But........" Her voice trailed off as she looked down, seemingly unable to face Milena.
Silent tears spilled from Milena's eyes. Lorena wanted her? Truly? Her chest hurt, as if her heart was trying to burst out of her. She couldn't take it anymore. Milena lunged at her like some sort of wild cat, landing in her lap. Lorena looked at her in surprise as tears began to spill from her eyes as well. "I-" Milena struggled to speak as emotion overcame her. "I want to stay here with you too."
Lorena's eyes only widened further as she stared, slack jawed. Mimi really wanted her? She really wanted her! She couldn't believe it. She'd always thought people who talked about finding 'the one' were stupid and unrealistic. Yet here she was, Lorena's one true love. It was fate, it had to be. Everything they had been through was leading up to this moment. The moment where they chose eachother. Lorena couldn't stop herself, she pulled Mimi into her arms and slammed her lips into hers. Mimi let out a squeak in suprise, but leaned into it.
Milena was in pure bliss as Lorena's tongue gently explored her mouth. She couldn't even think anymore, she felt like a being of pure emotion. Lorena gripped her tighter and Milena wrapped her arms around her neck, stroking her hair. Lorena withdrew from the kiss, only to begin kissing and sucking on her neck. Milena moaned as her face flushed.
The fire in Lorena burned bright, screaming to take her now. To show her who she belonged to. She sucked harder and Mimi let out a small squeal. She moaned into the girls neck. God, how she wanted to turn those little squeals into screams. She could do it, it's not like anyone would stop her. It was her right, after all.
But It wasn't the right time yet. She'd only just claimed her and Mimi was still holding things back. She couldn't take her home until the girl had given herself fully unto her. Lorena pulled away and stared into Mimi's eyes, they were filled with a longing that pierced into her soul. She planted one last gentle kiss on her lips before pulling her into an embrace.
They stayed that way for a long while, as if they were trying to melt into one another. They unconsciously synced their breathing as the excitement wore off. Neither said anything to the other, they didn't need to. It was a moment of true love, one that they knew would stay with them forever.
Milena didn't know how much time had passed by the time Lorena let go, but it was dark outside. Both women blushed upon pulling away from eachother.
Lorena cleared her throat and checked her watch, seemingly wanting to avoid an awkward silence. "Your clothes were supposed to be ready by now," she scowled. Milena touched her hand. "Hey, it's okay! Those clothes were really detailed and clearly took a long time to create. I'm okay waiting." She smiled. Lorena stood up and crossed her arms, "Well I'm not. I'm taking you up the mountain tonight and you simply cannot wear those clothes." Milena crossed her arms right back at her. "They're not that bad!" She exclaimed. Lorena sighed and pet her head, "No they're not, but The Paragon has a strict dress code. So we need them to finish up soon."
There was a sudden knock at the door. "Finally," Lorena grumbled. Upon opening the door, she let out a groan in disappointment. The woman at the door looked confused. "Um- Hello Miss Lamae, I brought what you requested. Is something wrong?" Lorena put a hand to her head, "Ugh, no Katherine, no. Just bring them to the back." The woman still looked concerned but nodded, and began to roll in a rack of clothes. Milena's eyes widened at the sight of such a large wardrobe. "Wow! Are those all yours??" Despite her frustration, Lorena chuckled at the question. "Well, my home is much too far away to be constantly going back and forth every day, so I needed a few essentials brought here to me." Milena couldn't believe it, all of those clothes were just the essentials?
Katherine returned from the back, smiling. "Is there anything else you require me for, Miss Lamae?" Lorena considered her for a moment before turning to Milena. "Mimi, this is one of my most trusted servants, Katherine. Katherine, this is my new companion, Mimi." The word 'companion' made Milena's heart flutter. She waved shyly to her new acquaintance and Katherine bowed in return. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Mimi." She grinned. Milena blushed, "Um, it's actually Milena. But it's nice to meet you too." Katherine didn't respond, she just smiled unnervingly at her, before turning back to Lorena. She gave her servant a nod, at which point Katherine gave a small bow, and left.
"So, how many servants do you have?" Milena asked. Lorena shrugged, "I don't know, I've never bothered to count. I'm sure Cedric knows."
"Thirty-two," growled a voice from behind them. Both women screamed and turned around. "Cedric! How many times have I told you to stop sneaking up on me like that?!" Lorena scowled. He gave a slight bow. "It is never my intention, My Lady." Lorena just rolled her eyes, "Suuuurrrre." Cedric hummed in amusement. "Would this make up for it, My Lady?" He said, as he pulled out two dresses encased in plastic and a pair of kitten heels.
"Oh Cedric!" Lorena exclaimed as she ran over to him. "You're a lifesaver!" She took the dresses and the shoes from him, then frowned. "Where's the rest of it? Cedric sighed and shook his head. "I'm afraid this is all they could complete today." Lorena gritted her teeth and growled, "THOSE INCOMPETENT-" she paused when she felt a touch on her arm. She looked down and saw Milena looking up at her with concern. Lorena took a breath. "Ugh, I guess I should be grateful they got this done at least. But please, monitor their progress Cedric. We need the coat and the snow boots done as soon as possible." He gave a small nod in response, "Of course, My Lady." She looked back down to Milena with a smile, "Well, are you ready?" Milena grinned back at her, "I am if you are," she giggled.
They went back to the office and Lorena helped her change into the fancy dress they had picked out earlier. It was in an empire waist style, with off the shoulder sleeves in a dark red color. The skirt flared out in a bell shape that stopped just above her ankles. Lorena touched up her coils that frizzed up during her nap and tied a ribbon in the back. Once Milena had the heels on, she looked in the mirror and gasped.
She was beautiful.
She felt like Cinderella, a ragged girl turned princess. She blushed as she began to imagine Lorena as her Prince Charming.
Lorena came behind her and put her hands on her shoulders. "You look beautiful, honey." She purred, kissing her temple. Milena's blush deepened. "What are you going to wear?" She asked, looking up. Lorena smiled down at her, "You'll see."
Milena sat on the bed and watched Lorena go through the clothing on the rack until she found what she was looking for. She smiled and without warning, began to strip off her clothes. Milena's jaw dropped at the sight of her body. Her large breasts gave way to a small waist and toned stomach, which then contrasted with her large hips and thighs. Lorena chuckled at Milena's expression. "You seemed embarrassed to undress earlier, so I figured this way we'd be even."
Right........ Even
Lorena wore a mermaid style dress that accentuated her hourglass figure well. It was in a deep purple color that reminded Milena of a Morning Glory. From there, she put on a pair of 5 inch strappy stilettos. Milena stared up at her in awe, she was 7 feet tall. Lorena turned to look at her and grinned. "What do you think?" She asked, as she gave a little twirl. Milena gazed at her with reverence. "You're an angel...." She breathed, almost in a whisper.
Lorena was taken aback by the comment. She had been called beautiful many times in her life. Some were genuine compliments, while others were were nothing but flattery. But no one had ever called her an angel before. In fact, most would probably say the opposite. But it wasn't just the words, it was the way she said it. It was like the words sprung from her very soul....
Lorena loved her. Loved her more than life itself. Just to be in her presence was a gift from God.
She blushed and extended a hand to Mimi, who looked as if she'd be hypnotized.
Milena blinked, snapping out of her trance. She saw Lorena blushing down at her from high above, and smiled, taking her hand.
Together they walked to the car up front. Cedric graciously opened the doors for them, before going to the driver's seat. It was freezing outside, so Milena was glad that he warmed up the car before they got in. The car was clearly made with Lorena's height in mind, as Milena's legs dangled off the edge of the seat like a child.
As they started driving, Milena began to admire all the lights rushing past. It would be Halloween soon, and after that, the holidays. The one thing she loved about winter up here was the amount of decorations and lights the town put up. Her brothers would have loved it too. Especially Alfred, he was always so excited when they went to see the lights in the park....
She pushed down a pang of sadness that threatened to rise. She was going out to have fun with Lorena. Thinking about the past would only bring her down. She took a deep breath and tried to clear her mind.
This was the first time Milena would be leaving the town since she arrived. She knew that further up the mountain there was a luxury ski resort, among other businesses and hotels. If the town was where the exorbitantly wealthy came to stay, then up the mountain was where they went to play. She was both thrilled and anxious at the prospect. On the one hand, it was an exciting new experience, but on the other, she was gonna be surrounded by rich shitheads all night. She let out a sigh as she suddenly felt a hand on her thigh.
She turned and saw Lorena checking her phone, while absent midedly squeezing her thigh. Milena found herself fantasizing about that hand traveling up beneath her dress. Lorena caressing and squeezing and kissing her thighs until.....
Milena blushed and shook her head, trying to get the thought out. This was NOT the time.
Lorena looked at her puzzled, "Are you ok?" Milena's face was flushed and she had a guilty look on her face. "Yup! Everything's fine!! Just a little anxious I guess...." She laughed nervously. Lorena smiled and put her arm around her shoulders, "It'll be ok, baby. You have nothing to worry about as long as you're with me."
Milena hoped that was true.
The drive continued for another 20 minutes as they proceeded further up the mountain. Leaving the town behind them, Milena could see the mountain range and the valley below in its entirety. She'd never been up so high, seen so much of the world at once. She felt Lorena's grip on her shoulder tighten. She turned around and saw Lorena looking down at the floor with her leg bouncing up and down. Milena frowned, "What's wrong?" She asked. Lorena's leg stopped bouncing, but she refused to look up, "Nothing. It's fine." She gritted out. Lorena took her arm away from the girls shoulder, placing both in her lap. Milena was confused, what could she be so anxious about?
She looked back out the window, trying to think of what could be the matter, when Lorena called to Cedric. "How much longer??" Cedric stayed focused on the winding road ahead. "Only about 10 more minutes, My Lady." Lorena groaned and put her head in her hands. Cedric had to slow the car's speed as the road became narrower, Milena could see the 5000 ft drop that awaited them should a wrong turn be made. Maybe that was it?
Milena touched her hand, "Are you scared of heights?" Lorena said nothing, only letting out a small whine in response.
Fuck it.
Milena took her seat belt off, which prompted Lorena to open her eyes in shock. But before she could say anything, Milena crawled into her lap and hugged her. She began to stroke Lorena's long hair while whispering reassurances in her ear, just as she had done for her earlier that day. Lorena didn't respond, she just wrapped her arms around Milena and took a deep breath.
"Lady Milena, put your seat belt on this instant!" Cedric scolded. Milena pulled away from the hug, blushing. "Will you be ok?" She softly asked. Lorena just smiled and pet her head, "I'll be ok, don't worry." She planted a kiss on Milena's cheek before letting her go.
Cedric breathed a sigh of relief when Milena buckled up again. Whatever Lorena had done clearly worked because the girl was completely under her spell. He felt a pang of guilt thinking about what was to come. He was going to rot in hell for this. He shuddered and tried to push down the feeling, this was all for Lorena's happiness, after all.
And if that meant destroying this girl, then so be it.
When they reached the top, Milena was astonished. It was like a whole other town! Albeit, a smaller one. She could see the massive ski resort in the distance, along with all the other smaller hotels near it. There were restaurants and boutiques, even a small park.
After another five minutes, they arrived at the resort. Lorena had told her that the restaurant was inside the building, and that apparently, the food was to die for. Cedric saw them off as the two walked in.
Milena gasped as they entered the lobby. Antique wallpaper covered the room and the floor was made of dark mahogany. There were impressionist paintings lining the wall and a large chandelier hanging from the ceiling. A fireplace roared to the left of them. It was amazing, like someplace out of a storybook.
Lorena guided her through the east wing of the resort until they reached The Paragon. It had many large windows facing out to the nearby mountain ranges. When the snow came, you'd be able to see skiers passing by on their way to the slopes. There was a small fountain in the middle of the room filled with Koi fish. Milena wondered if that was enough room for all of them.
Lorena walked up to the host's desk. "Table for two." She said, curtly. The host smiled at her, "I'm very sorry, but we have no tables available tonight." Milena looked around and could see five separate empty tables, Lorena could see them too. "We both know that's not true, my dear." She said in that same cold demeanor. The host looked like she was suppressing an eye roll. "Those tables are reserved, ma'am. The next reservations available are three weeks from now, If you'd like, I can set that up for you. I can also recommend you an alternative-" A man suddenly dashed beside the host and cut her off. "Miss Lamae! What a pleasure, you look ravishing as always. Will you be dining with us tonight? I see you've brought a lovely guest with you." Lorena smiled, "Yes, I'm here to eat with my friend, but your host has told me there are no tables available." The man shot a glare at the host, who returned the look with confusion. "I'm so very sorry for the misunderstanding. We are always happy to have you here with us." He gulped. "Give me two minutes and I'll have a table ready for you."
He dragged the host out of sight to presumably prepare a table for them. Milena was about to ask Lorena why the man seemed scared of her, when she suddenly heard something familiar. She turned and saw that at the far end of the restaurant, a band was playing on a small stage. They were playing what Milena recognized as Lester Youngs arrangement of These Foolish Things. She smiled remembering the hours she used to spend in the record store as a kid, before finally getting a job there as a teenager. That's how she discovered artists like Lester Young, Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, and so many others. She remembered how excited she had been when her parents gifted her a record player on her 13th birthday. Jazz always quieted the storm in her head, comforted her when she was in pain. Hearing it again after so many years soothed her soul.
She was drawn out of her memories when Lorena sighed irritability. "Jazz is so boring," she complained. "Literally anything else would be better." Milena glared at her and was about to argue, when the man came back. "Your table is ready ladies," he huffed, out of breath. "I do apologize for the wait, please follow me."
It turned out he had cleared a whole corner of the restaurant to give them more privacy. They sat down and were handed their menus. Lorena seemingly knew what she wanted already since she didn't open it. Milena looked through it, but honestly, nothing looked particularly appealing. She looked around to see what other customers had gotten and realized that this was one of those fancy restaurants that served tiny portions. Her heart sank, she hadn't eaten since early this morning and she was starving.
Milena tried to hide her disappointment to no avail. "Nothing to your liking?" Lorena asked. Milena looked at her in surprise and blushed. "No no, of course not! Everything looks just so good that I can't decide!" She said, laughing nervously.
Lorena frowned and tilted her head. Her expression darkening. "Don't lie to me, Mimi" She warned. The expression on her face looked scarily like the one Melina's mother would give her before the belt came off. Panic surged through her,"Y- you're right, I'm- I'm sorry. I won't lie again, promise." She gulped.
Lorena's gaze softened at the apology, "Just don't do it again. I want you to be honest with me no matter what, ok?" Milena nodded her head, still a little disturbed by the expression she just had. Lorena smiled and patted her hand. "Tell me, what is the fanciest meal you ever had?" Milena was caught a little off guard by the question and had to think. "Well- um- when I turned 15 my parents took us to a steakhouse for dinner. They let me get a whole steak to myself with some garlic mashed potatoes. I guess that would be it...?" She trailed off nervously. Lorena grinned, "Well then, that's what you'll order!"
Milena shot her a confused look as Lorena called over the waiter that was on standby for them. Lorena explained what Milena wanted to the waiter, who nodded politely despite the strangeness of the order, "Of course! I'm sure the chef will be.... thrilled to accommodate your friends special tastes. Anything else...?" He asked nervously. Lorena then said something in French and the waiter seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. "That's a wonderful choice, thank you Miss Lamae. Your orders will be out as soon as possible." He gave a brief nod to both of them before scampering away.
"I really hope that order doesn't give them too much trouble." Milena muttered. Lorena chuckled, "It won't, trust me." Milena just stared at her for a moment, "Why does everyone seem to be so nervous around you?" Lorena grinned, "Probably because I own the restaurant we're in, and the resort, plus the surrounding hotels, and the boutique we went to, and-" "You own all of that?!?" Milena interrupted. "That's- I- You must be crazy rich then!" She was astonished, she knew she must've been wealthy by the servants she kept around, but this was just crazy. Lorena laughed, "All that and much more, trust me." She smirked.
Mimi gave her a strange look, one Lorena couldn't decipher. She forgot poor people found the successful to be intimidating. She supressed a sigh. She wasn't about to lose her over something so stupid. "But to be honest with you, that's not the real reason people are scared of me." She said, in mock sadness. "It isn't?" Mimi questioned, taking the bait. Lorena shook her head. "I- I did something really bad a few years ago. Something that completely ostracized me from the community here."
Milena reached out for her hand, "Whatever happened in the past, I promise not to judge you. All that matters is what we do now, right?" Lorena gazed at her with glassy eyes and took a deep breath, "When I was 18, I fell in love with the mayor's daughter. She was the only bright spot in that bleak town. We were-" she choked. "We were going to get married, but she hadn't come out to her father yet. So she decided to hit him with a double whammy." She chuckled briefly before closing her eyes, a single tear falling.
"The next day I got a call from her saying she never wanted to see me again. That she had just been confused, and our relationship was wrong. I was obviously angry and worried, so I went to her house for an explanation. Her father answered the door and began to tear into me about how disgusting I was, how I preyed on his daughter. That I was some sort of pervert freak and that I was going to hell." Lorena's voice cracked on the last word, breaking Milena's heart. "The worst part was that she was standing right behind him the whole time. Watching him curse me and-" her breathing hitched as more tears fell. "And she did nothing! She just shook her head and turned away from me. I just- I just lost it. I punched her father square in the nose, and when he felI, I just kept beating him. There was so much blood, I-" she shook her head. "He didn't die, thank God. But no one wanted anything to do with me after that. Even my employees think I'm some sort of monster."
Milena couldn't take it, "That's not true! If anything, that man was the monster!" She wanted to cry. "I- I'm so sorry that happened to you. You don't deserve to be treated like that."
Lorena wanted to laugh. Mimi was such a stupid little girl, but oh so sweet. It's a surprise that no one snatched her up a long time ago. Just bat your eyes, feed her a sob story, and she'll fall right into your hands.
Though it wasn't a total lie, there was another reason people were frightened of her. In truth, it was because they knew that their lives meant nothing to her, that she would destroy them without a second thought. That there was no mercy or sympathy in her heart. That's probably why people called her The Amazon.
Lorena wiped her tears away. "I'm sorry I-" she swallowed, "I haven't talked about that in a long time." Milena gave her a sympathetic smile. "You don't need to apologize, really." She assured. "But, since you were so honest with me, there's something I need to tell you."
Was she really going to do this? Would Lorena think less of her? She took a deep breath. "Yesterday, when you found me, I had been.... running from the police." She looked down at the table, unable to meet her eyes. Lorena gasped, "But why??" Milena's throat tightened. "They were called to remove me from a cafe that I had accidentally fallen asleep in. They were going to arrest me and I-" She shuddered. "I've been to the police station before and..... bad things happen there. I couldn't go back, I wouldn't. So I fought them off and ran away. I'm probably a wanted woman.
Milena gulped, "I understood if you're mad and want nothing to do with me. But-" "Don't say that!" Lorena yelled. "I could never hate you! I knew the cops in town were lowlifes, but I had no idea their depravity ran so deep!" Milena looked up at Lorena when she grabbed her hand, squeezing it tight. "Listen," she began. "We're gonna let the cops cool off, and then I'm gonna pull some strings with the chief to get the warrant lifted." Her voice was steady and full of resolve. Milena looked at her astonished. "Is that ok??" She asked in shock. Lorena gave her a small smile, "Not legally, but at the very least I can finally use my bad reputation for something good."
Mimi just stared at her in awe. Lorena was happy the girl was honest about her encounter with the police, but her mention of 'bad things' happening at the station perturbed her. She'd assumed Mimi was a virgin by her behavior and had been greatly looking forward to breaking her in. She cringed at the thought of some fat, middle aged cop shoving his dick inside her. She'd have Cedric investigate these previous encounters, there was no way she could ask her outright. At least, not right now.
Milena couldn't believe it, this random woman she met by chance yesterday was ready to risk prison for her? Milena's heart pounded, she wanted to pounce on her, to slam their lips together again, to run her hands down her body until-
Milena lost her train of thought when the waiter reappeared with their food. Her mouth watered at the sight of the steak. As soon as the waiter turned to leave, she sliced into the meat and dipped it into the potatoes. She let out an involuntary moan upon taking the first bite, the steak was just so tender and the potatoes were smooth and flavorful. She ate the entire thing in under 10 minutes. When she was done, she realized that she hadn't said a word the entire time she'd been eating, she looked up and saw Lorena grinning at her. "Good?" She asked, teasingly. Milena blushed, "Yes, it was delicious! Probably the best meal I've ever had! Thank you so much."
Lorena was about to say something else, when suddenly the band began to play a more upbeat tune. Milena recognized it as 'Tonight You Belong to Me' by Patience and Prudence. This time a singer had joined the band on stage, instead of them just playing the instrumentals. Lorena's grin widened as she got out of her seat, extending a hand to Milena. "Dance with me," she purred. Milena became flustered at the proposition. "W-what?! I- I don't know how to dance! I'll just look stupid." Lorena rolled her eyes, "Who cares what people think? It's not like I'm asking you to tango or anything, now c'mon!" Lorena grabbed her hand and dragged her to the dance floor in front of the stage.
Milena's face flushed, this was so embarrassing. It brought back terrible memories of all the homecoming dances she was forced to go to. She shut her eyes, she didn't want people to look at her. They'd look stupid together, like some sort of Vaudeville comedy duo.
She opened her eyes when she felt a hand on her shoulder. It was Lorena, who had crouched down to her level. She smiled gently and whispered in her ear, "Focus on me, okay? Let everything else fall away. This is all there is, you, me, and the music." Milena looked down at the floor and sighed, still embarrassed, before giving a little nod. Lorena chuckled and stood back up, Milena took her hands and together, they swayed to the music.
She tried to focus only on Lorena. How soft her hands were, her slow and methodical breathing, how her eyes shined looking down at her. After a few minutes of this, Milena calmed down. She was with the woman she cared about, fuck everyone else. She laughed as Lorena twirled her around, before pulling her close to her body again.
This felt right, the two of them together like this. She really felt like Cinderella, dancing with her Prince at the ball. Her reward for persevering through the pain. It wasn't true of course, things would inevitably go wrong. That's just how life was. But when they did, she knew she could always come back here. To when it was just the two of them, and the whole world ceased to be.
♫ Way down, way down along the stream
How very, very sweet it will seem
Once more just to dream
In the silvery moonlight
My honey, I know
With the dawn that you will be gone
But tonight you belong to me
Just to little old me ♫

THEY PROMISE TO BE BE GOOD! THEY NEED IT! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE THEY NEED IT!
Thinking about Mimi's parents and how, yes they were incredibly abusive. But they were also still her parents, they were cruel, but they were also kind. They loved her so much but at the same time they associate her with a very traumatic time in their lives (pregnant at 15 and forced to marry eachother by fundamentalist Christian parents).
It's not even a conscious thing for them. It's not an intentional bias against her. They thrusted Mimi into a 2nd mother type role and held her to such an unrealistic standard that she was bound to fail no matter what.
It's sad because they TRIED to be better than their parents. They raised Mimi and her siblings away from the church, they supported Mimi coming out, they never withheld food (even if they threatened to sometimes), didn't make them kneel on rice for hours on end, never burned them with cigarettes etc. But that doesn't change the fact that what they did to their daughter was awful and cruel.
That's why when Mimi ran away, they were finally forced to reckon with what they had done. What they had pushed their daughter to do. They had called it 'tough love' and 'teaching responsibility.' But in reality, they were just taking out their fear and anger on her.
So they do the work, they go to therapy. They learn how to better communicate, how to manage their anger, how to foster better supportive relationships with their children. Which is all very well and good, but Mimi is still gone. And no matter how good their relationship with their sons is, there will always be anger and resentment for what they did to their big sister.
The first 2 years of her disappearance, they fully believed she would come back (or at least contact them in some way.) They tried to keep that hope alive longer, but after 5 years they came to terms with the fact she was probably dead. It nearly broke them, they became better people at the cost of their babies life, they were monsters. But they knew they had to be there for their remaining children, even if said children hate them forever. They had to be better parents for them, for the memory of the girl they lost.
Of course, Mimi isn't dead. And when she is returned to them 13 years later, they'll have a whole new reckoning to face.

They point to the side with their chin, where Nate is folded into a decent bow, face pressed to the floor and trembling.
"That there would be new rules, and that your power was absolute."
It doesn't take much, really. It's been days of no food and barely enough water, so Audric can't react to any of their hits. One punch to the stomach has him folded in two, and then it's a free-for-all.
He ends up on the floor, curled up even tighter than Nate.
"You must have taught them well. They've been so good for me."
Unlike you goes unsaid.
"Please-"
Whumper barks out a laugh, mean and sharp, as he scrambles on his hands and knees trying to get up or back away or-
"I know you were more lenient than me, but even you wouldn't have accepted that kind of begging."
They crouch on their heels in front of him, hand confidently reaching for his hair.
"You know what I want, you know how I'll get it, so why is it you can't even fucking pretend to be good for me?"
Jace realized through a haze of panic that he had no idea where he was going. His knowledge was limited to one hallway and one room; that being the kitchen he had eaten in before passing out.
Knowing only that would have to be enough. It just had to. The problem was Jace couldn't recognize where in the house he was, meaning he had no idea how to get back into that one familiar hallway.
Distantly, he could hear Theodore calling out for him, but he didn't bother looking back. Every second was precious. His feet moved clumsily down the hall, his socks making him slip and slide as if he were running on ice.
He turned and twisted down hallways, passing through a blur of rooms, expression searching and desperate. His legs felt sore already, the muscle strung tight like a coil of wire from sudden use.
Somehow he managed to lose Theodore throughout the chase, likely due to his sporadic and confused movements not following logical reasoning; being driven by a purely animalistic desire to escape. He didn't stop even then, too paranoid to trust the quiet. You don't fear the forest when it's loud, but quiet. At least, that's what his father used to tell him when he took him out hunting for the first time. And last. He never bothered to again after Jace couldn't force himself to shoot down a deer.
Nearly tripping over his feet, Jace's heart surged with hope as he saw the familiar backs of the paintings hanging off the walls. He must have passed the kitchen in his panic. Without any further hesitation, Jace sprinted down the hallway, past the paintings, and to the front door. He searched nearby for his sneakers, but they were gone. His hands tightened around the handle and pulled.
The door handle rattled as Jace started to desperately tug it up and down without prevailing. Locked.
Fuck.
His back hit the door as he slid down to the floor, puffs of air irregularly escaping his mouth as he dug his hands into his hair. He felt like a mouse stuck in a trap. What to do now? Where to go from here?
Window….Window! In the kitchen, there were floor length windows!
Nearly tripping over his own feet as he shot up, Jace scampered back down the hall and into the kitchen.
Grabbing one of the dining chairs, Jace used the legs of it to ram it into the centre of the window, shattering the elongated panel of glass into jaded shards.
He had to move quickly. Theodore would be able to pinpoint exactly where Jace was now, if he already hadn't figured where Jace was going. It wouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out Jace would try to find the exit, after all. And then it would be all too easy to find him in the kitchen. His heart felt tight, anxious with freedom so near. Jace reached down with one hand to brace himself on the frame of the window, getting ready to jump out, only to flinch away with a hiss as the remnants of glass sliced through his palm.
Fingers fumbling, he wrangled his hoodie off and threw it over the opening. Now, he was ready. Finally, he would be able to escape.
A hand grabbed him from behind, tugging him back.
A needle pushed into the side of his neck, quickly, gone before he could flinch.
"N—No!" Jace yowled, he was so, so, so close! Just a bit further, and this would all be over, and he would be safe!
Jace knew that his strength, while still with him, would start depleting exponentially any second now.
With that thought in mind, Jace swirled around, planting both of his palms into Theodore's chest and pushed. Theodore stumbled back, his hands reaching out to pull Jace down with him, and then both of them were on the ground, trying to get on top of one another. The air was knocked out of Jace's chest. From the heavy weight of Theodore sitting on him or the drugs quickly coursing through his system, Jace didn't know.
His head was starting to feel fuzzy and his fingers were tingling, turning numb. Still, Jace didn't let himself stop. The moment he stopped, he wouldn't be able to start again. Trying to buck Theodore off of him, Jace squirmed against the cool wooden floors, but Theodore was everywhere. Theodore's hands were gaining purchase on his wrists; his thighs pinning his legs. His lips were moving frantically too, but all Jace could hear was the sound of his own pounding heart.
And then, Jace was being crushed into a chest-to-chest, heart-to-heart, embrace. The rabbit-like cadence of Jace's heart matched Theodore's, and it was only then that Jace realized Theodore was shaking. Something wet hit the side of his throat. Not blood, but tears.
With his hands now free, Jace reached around blindly. The tingling sensation had spread from the tips of his fingers to his shoulders. In spite of that, he managed to curl his fingers around something and stab that object into the meat of Theodore's shoulder.
The shard sunk deep, and Jace felt a wet inhale beside his ear. The screaming started. Jace didn't know who it was coming from, he simply raised the shard once more, sinking it into Theodore's back.
The weight on his body shifted again. Hands moved to pin his, and Jace could swear he could hear Theodore pleading, saying things such as "No, please" and "I love you". He didn't care for it. He needed Theodore off of him. To stop touching him. He wanted to go home and sleep. He wanted to wake up next to August after a long night of stargazing.
The shard was cutting into his fingers as he slashed it against Theodore's forearms, trying to get some distance.
The mass on his body was lifted.
Deliriously, Jace grunted as he flipped onto his stomach and slowly began to crawl for the window. The tingling sensation had gone and in its place came an all consuming numbness.
His vision blurred. He dragged his body across the floor using his forearms, painstakingly slow.
Just a little more..
He was almost there…Almost…
Jace tried to keep moving his arms forward, but his body could only twitch. He fell limp, only two more strides away from the window.
Then, his eyes fluttered shut, and an unwelcome sleep pulled him under.
