Wait what ableism? Am i missing something here? Could you please explain because i didnt really catch ableism in the show (mostly has to do with my lack pf experience and knowledge with most disabilities and the ableism of the wider world)

(Second note: this is one of the few romance mangas I have read bc I liked the anime sm)

(I also am a certified hater and found your posts funny bc everything you said was true!!)

- when we meet Yuki in the first episode, not a single person she comes into contact with can properly communicate with her. Even the girl who takes her notes, does not speak the same language as her and therefore cannot really communicate with Yuki.

-in the anime, we see her parents only a couple of times, but we never see them use sign language to communicate. We learn in the manga they just never bothered to learned JSL. In fact when they meet itsu for the first time they assume he’s going to “find out how hard” it is being with Yuki, and break up with her.

-yuki struggling to find a job. This is expanded a little more in the manga and shows just how awkward a job interview can be (this is something i relate to bc people assume hearing loss = bad at work for some reason???)

-the second male love interest is explicitly ableist. Period. The way he assumes Itsu isn’t serious about Yuki. The way he assumes Yuki is helpless bc she’s deaf. THE WAY HE PHYSICALLY PUTS HIS HANDS ON HER TO STOP HER FROM TALKING! Hell, the first time we meet him he discourages his friend from maybe pursuing her and the only reason he comes up with is “cause she’s deaf”

-also every new person at some point asks her if she can read lips. Which in itself is problematic and lazy. Without having to explain that even the best lip readers in the world can only understand 1 in every 3 words.

And something that is manga only:

-yuki has an older brother who’s girlfriend recently dumped him. We find out that;

1) he never told his girlfriend that his sister was born deaf

2) when the girl finds out about Yuki she breaks up with the brother bc she cannot handle the thought of them having a deaf child

3) her brother AND her parents make the decision to not tell yuki this bc “she doesn’t need to know how people are”
