My ranking of the Deltarune chapters so far (August 2026) and my story with the game
I discovered Deltarune completely by chance when it came out in 2018, and I was already a huge Undertale fan. I played it on PC, but it didn't really grab me that much. Undertale was still Undertale.
When Chapter 2 came out in 2021, I had already gotten a Switch, so I downloaded the game there, replayed Chapter 1 and then played Chapter 2 (That is actually the save file I still use today!). I had just had surgery and wasn't feeling very well during that period. I liked Chapter 2, but it still didn't have my full attention.
Then the summer of last year (2025) changed everything. Chapters 3&4 came out in June. By then I was working, so I didn't have much time to play them, and this time they were paid releases too. I had decided to give up on the game.
It wasn't until August, when I went on vacation with my family, that my cousin started listening to the OSTs in the car and talking about the game with such passion that it made me want to play it again too. So as soon as we got back from vacation, I immediately started playing.
And that's when I fell in love.
Nowadays, I can say that Deltarune is one of my favorite games and one of the games that has changed my life, all thanks to Chapters 3&4. The characters, the OSTs, the environments, the story finally becoming more and more intricate. Everything. Is. Amazing.
To me, they're basically one single entity, but if I really have to rank them, I'd put Chapter 4 above Chapter 3, although that's purely a matter of personal taste. The eerie atmosphere of the Dark Sanctuary, and the generally more serious tone of the chapter compared to the previous three, are what made me appreciate it the most.
And then we get to June 2026, when Chapter 5 came out: the first chapter I had ever genuinely looked forward to with such anticipation, the first one where I would occasionally check for news about its release, and the first one I played on the very day it came out. Another absolutely wonderful chapter, I especially loved the flowers.
And now I'm waiting for Chapter 6, scheduled for 2027, with even more anticipation. If I had to make a prediction, I'd say Chapter 7 will come out in 2028, for Deltarune's tenth anniversary.
But that's the beauty of waiting for new chapters, just like Toby said in the latest newsletter. Theories, speculations, fanart, fanfiction, they're all tied to a specific moment in time, and they bring the community together to experience the game together, year after year, chapter after chapter.
If you're waiting for Deltarune to be finished before playing it, please, just don't. Play it now! It will be a completely different experience, a better one, and you won't regret it.
And now, onto the ranking, even though you probably already figured it out by now:
