Summary:

In which Battat accidentally starts a podcast, trying to answer the big questions: Who is Mike? (Who is the favorite Mike?) What happened to Tenna's ex-partner? And how long can they keep this up before Tenna finds out about... everything?

Snippet from chapter 2:

“Alright everyone, places! PLACES!”

Some Pippins scurry to get off the stage and out of the way, as the Zapper working the overhead lights casts the largest one down at Tenna’s form. They all have their place in the show, whether it be acting, lights or sound, getting refreshments ready, decor, cleanup. That’s one thing about living in TV World; you know you’re never out of a job.

Battat clears the stage as well, knowing he’s expected to keep an eye on things backstage, to handle whatever last-minute hiccup may occur, to prevent disaster before it even thinks of rearing its ugly head. But before he goes, he casts one last glance at Tenna’s back, the great showman with newfound confidence in the set of his shoulders, the way he’s spinning a microphone in his hand. Completely in his element.

Almost as if feeling a gaze on him (because when is there ever not someone looking), Tenna glances back and, even though he lacks eyes of his own, Battat could have sworn he winks at him.

And that’s his cue to get the hell out of there. Because it doesn’t mean anything, and he’s only messing with his own head by letting himself get distracted by the what-ifs. Because even if it did mean anything, it wouldn’t be for Battat.
