Rant Under Cut for my nosey beloved mutuals
My partners parents live with us for a host of reasons and the number one issue in the house is the thermostat.
My father-in-law gave me full control of the temperature, and then bought a portable heater. 🫥🫥
Mind you, the thermostat in their area of the house was set to 72/22.2°! That is not unreasonable for a heatwave.
Anyway, our bedroom is upstairs (because neither one of them can go up the stairs anymore) and it is now 80/26.7°. In my HVAC-cooled-bedroom.
We had to have words. No using the personal heater during a fucking heatwave. I am in the skimpiest clothes I own, hair up, guzzling ice water, and sitting on ice packs, and he’s using a gd personal heater. Use a blanket like a normal person!!!
*Edit: I feel like I should point out that he never wears anything other than shorts and a short sleeved polo. He could easily wear more clothes if he was cold. Or use a blanket. I, however, can only take off so much.
Anyway. Idk if most people feel like they’re dying if it’s 80° (inside), but I have pretty severe heat intolerance from POTS. I cannot wait for my fancy fan to come. I wanted it before the heatwave got here, but it was too expensive. Saw it on sale and immediately grabbed it. Friday can’t come soon enough.

one of the hardest things to learn as a depressed former Gifted Kid™ is that half-assed is better than nothing. take the 50%, 40%, even 20% job. scrubbing your face is better than not taking a shower at all. picking up your clothes is better than never cleaning. nibbling on some bread is better than starving.
DO THINGS HALFWAY. NOW YOU’RE 100% BETTER OFF THAN YOU WERE BEFORE.
One of my college professors used to say “anything worth doing is worth doing poorly.” I didn’t understand that for years because I didn’t do anything poorly, I couldn’t do anything poorly, I had to Do Everything Perfectly.
But brushing your teeth for 30 seconds is better than not brushing them at all when that 2 minutes seems exhausting. Doing ten minutes of yoga is better than 10 minutes of sitting when 30 minutes of cardio sounds impossible. Changing my clothes is good when a whole shower is impossible. Standing on the porch for a few minutes is worth it after being in the house for three straight days because I don’t have the energy to go anywhere.
Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly… because doing it poorly is better than not doing it.

You must understand that perfectionism isn’t striving for excellence, it’s a crippling fear of being flawed and therefore worth abandonment or punishment. It’s a kind of psychological avoidance. You’re avoiding fear and failure , not embracing the thing you want to do bc if it was about the thing you want to do you’d be fine with partial victory.

After almost a decade on this site, I found another Tumblr user in the wild. I stopped to tie my shoe with rainbow laces this morning outside the silversmith at Colonial Williamsburg, and I heard it.
“I like your shoelaces.”
Oh. Oh no.
I responded the only way I could. “Thanks.” And then I reluctantly added, “I stole them from the president…and if that makes sense to you, I’m very sorry.”
The poor man, in full Colonial dress, stared at me for a long moment. And then burst into laughter. And said, “I haven’t thought about that in YEARS and this has never happened to me before.”
Yeah. Me neither. Not until today.

Oh hey, all you Library-Loving Libby users out there. A piece of advice for you. Go to your search engine of choice and type in “[your local library] reciprocal agreements”.
Might pull up nothing, but chances are there are somewhere between two and seven other Library systems in your state that you can get a card at perfectly legitimately simply by applying for one with your current address and proof of having an active card at your local library. You can then log into Libby with these and use them even if you never manage to go to a physical building of that library. (Though you should take advantage of the physical library too if you can) Some of them might have significantly larger or at least different ebook/audiobook collections for you.
