I want a sitcom about a friend group or family wherein one of the main characters is a trans woman. I want her to be the most bubbly, kind, energetic character and the show to demonstrate over the episodes that this woman is the fucking glue that holds these people together. They love each other but there’s miscommunications and difficulties expressing themselves and well-meaning ideas that turn toxic. But you have this character who has had to build herself from nothing and is paying that joy she’s cultivated outward.
And then I want a flashback episode that takes place ten years before. And that trans woman is the saddest, numbest man with no light in her eyes. I want her future self to haunt that narrative like a fucking specter. Watching fights that she would have stopped and people she would have helped. It should be clear that when someone finds themselves and cultivates self-love it spills out to the people around them, too. And the relationships aren’t the same without that.

oh to be a hot alternative girl with a ponytail and a baseball cap and a facemask with visible eyeliner working behind the counter at a shitty gas station in some lame suburb wearing pants that are just a little too tight and make my ass look really big and a stupid work shirt and nametag and i'm on my phone scrolling social media for my whole shift but then some shy girl walks in to buy a single immature beverage like juice or some shit and shes wearing like a punch of whites abd pinks and shes got a bunny hairclip and she walks up to the counter and i'm scrolling my phone and shes like "h-hi.." and i look up and i'm like "what" and she blushes REALLY hard and goes "E-EEK- UM.. JJUST THIS PLEASE" and i'm like "okay" and i ring her up and she pays me and takes the drink and practically runs out of the store and i barely take note and keep scrolling my phone disinterestedly but the girl remembers the whole thing visibly and she peeks through the advertisements from outside the store to get a look at me right as i stretch and mh shirt rides up and reveals a tiny bit of my tummy and sge blushes REALLY hard and runs home feeling like a total freak but i didnt even notice or care because i'm nonchalant and doing my own thing. and then maybe she keeps finding excuses to come in and i start picking up on something but i dont know what except she realizes we go to the same college and she starts seeing me (no facemask and i keep my hair down) around campus but she doesnt know its me but i know its her and she approaches me and makes friends with me and slowly we start to realize how much we like each other through repeated interactions at school on my end and at my work on hers and maybe we can. um. anyways i think thatd be cool
Please delete this if you’re uncomfortable with questions like these but do you happen to have any resources on writing Black characters in smut/kink scenarios? I write a LOT of porn and I’ve included many Black characters in my works, and I know the basics of what to avoid that’s blatantly racist in terms of depiction and kink content, but would you happen to know of anywhere I could find some more extensive resources? I want to be sure that my characters are portrayed well and that any Black folk who interact with my work will be able to properly enjoy it!
I mean, I don't think that Black people have sex any differently than anybody else 😅 the only important thing is to understand the dynamics of how you're describing and depicting these characters, and that's still sociological and comes back to the regular lessons. But no, I don't have any resources myself. I'll leave this here.
so imma take a crack at answering this. its important to be aware of the racial, gender, sexual politics and dynamics when creating such media as someone who's nonblack. its unfortunate fact but white supremacy, colonialism and american chattel slavery has impacted nearly every aspect of life world wide even on a deeper psychological/subconscious level. in terms of gender and sexuality as it pertains to black people, particularly black americans. there are so many tropes and stereotypes that sprung up from these atrocities of humankind and our continued oppression that morphed into other forms but all remain spiritually the same. The mandingo, the buck, the homothug, the YN, the nonchalant dreadhead. The jezebel, the sapphire, the mammy, the ghetto gagger, the beautiful mulatto, the fast girl, the bull dagger. We also exist in this weird double edged sword of dehumanization in regards to our gender, gender expression, and sexuality. All created to justify the systemic rape, murder and sexual assault we faced throughout history. These tropes are so pervasive, especially in regards to black manhood/masculinity its near inescapable in any arenas with NSFW content. These were the recommended questions i was suggested by ust searching on quora (a SFW site for posing questions) for firsthand accounts of black people with an interest in BDSM
Note the objectification aspect, not even to referring to any hypothetical black man as as man in this fantasy but simply cutting him down to his penis.
Simultaneously de-gendered and desexualized but also fetishized and believed to have an insatiable libido. We're incapable of being viewed as beautiful, handsome, sexy or worthy of romantic pursuit or attraction that isn't based in objectification. This all gets compounded more when you factor in fatness, queerness and transness. Its a very complex topic for sure and not every black person has the same ideals or opinions. Some black folks can easily engage with nonblacks no matter the sexual dynamic and see no issue with it. There are a myriad of black people out there, black women with white male partners and black men and with white female partners that may engage with certain sexual dynamics. To each their own. Its a hard topic for sure. On one hand if you consistently have your black characters being 'dominant' or 'aggressive' one you can run into racial stereotyping that regards black sexual desire as inherently domineering or violent. On the other if you have the black character being consistently submissive in a way it could read as wanting to see black people as subservient, especially when you through white people in the mix.
From the very quick research I did, I see a lot of black cis women with a casual interest in BDSM have a desire for submission whereas mostly the women who do it professionally are dommes. It really depends, some black women see being submissive not just a representation of their sexuality but also an affirmation of their femininity and womanhood. They may not feel comfortable being forced into a sexually aggressive/dominant role because it mirrors the jezebel/sapphire trope of black women being angry and domineering, beliefs that led to again justifying their degendering and dehumanization. To regard black women as not really women, not feminine enough, not worthy of protection, not worthy of help and doting on etc. Additionally some black cis women prefer to be in a dominant role, especially involving white or nonblack partners. They feel that being sexually submissive/bound in scenes harkens back to ideals and imagery where black women were forced under sexual slavery and systemic rape, so they see being dominant as a reclamation of power from past subjugation.
it gets compunded even more when you take transness in regard. within transfeminity and trans fem sexuality there's a term called comptop, similar to comphet (short for compulsory heterosexuality, the psychological phenomenon of gay men and lesbians experiencing not genuine attraction to the opposite gender but this being a symptom of homophobia forcing them to deny their real desires) comptop being short for compulsory topping where a trans women/fem feels she always has to be the top in whatever sexual situation she is because of her assigned gender at birth. Additionally you add blackness with perceived maleness, and black trans fems are overwhelmingly expected to always act in a similar manner regardless of her own sexual desires (especially within the realm of sex work). Kat Blaque is a black trans women writer, activist, artist, public speaker and video essayist whom i've been subscribed to for at least 10 years. She also someone who is actively vocal about being polyamorous and and into BDSM. I do also know that her partners are nonblack and she is submissive and has talked before about having to navigate racial and gender dynamics in the relationships she's had.
This is not me comparing trans women to men btw, its just me noting the similarites in which Black AMAB peoples sexualities are regarded. Similarly, like i mentioned the homothug stereotype previously; black cis queer men are always expected to be aggressive/dominant tops. Even in content not made by or featuring black men, be it yaoi/bara/porn etc the darker skinned male character is always larger than the lighter skinned one and always the top. That is a symptom of antiblackness. Similarly, masculine lesbians/studs are also seen as hyper aggressive and expected to be the top as well.
Im gonna try to wrap this up cause this answer is already long answer thats all over the place. But TLDR, just go about it in a respectful way. Be aware of tropes. Also please dont use food as descriptors of black skin tones (coffee, cinnamon, chocolate, etc.) it always comes across as fetishtic when nonblacks do it im sorry. But lastly raceplay is 100% racist no matter what way you invoke it, so please do not engage lbs.

If you're writing anything involving cons, scams, heists, or morally questionable characters who are very good at lying, here are some free resources I've been using for research. Saving you the "why is this in my search history" anxiety.
1. The FBI's Famous Cases & Criminals archive (fbi.gov/history/famous-cases) has detailed breakdowns of real fraud cases, Ponzi schemes, and confidence operations. The language they use is clinical and precise, which is perfect for getting the procedural details right.
2. The FTC Consumer Sentinel Network publishes annual reports on the most common fraud tactics in the US. Great for understanding how modern scams actually work and what makes people fall for them.
3. The Smithsonian's American Art Museum has a free digital collection of forgery case studies. If your character forges documents or art, this is gold.
4. Court Listener (courtlistener.com) is a free legal database where you can read actual court transcripts from fraud trials. Want to know how a real con artist talks under oath? This is where you find out.
5. The Internet Archive's collection of old newspaper crime sections. Search for "confidence man" or "swindle" in papers from the 1920s through 1960s and you'll find incredible real stories that would feel too dramatic for fiction.
Bonus: The Psychology of Fraud section on the Association for Psychological Science website has accessible articles about why people trust, how deception works cognitively, and what makes someone a convincing liar. Essential reading if you want your con artist characters to feel psychologically real.
Reblog to save for later. Your WIP will thank you.
the concept and idea of “you can always start trying to be a better person” is extremely important to me both in media and irl and i continue to be deeply deeply disturbed by the trend on this site pushing that these ideas in media are bad writing or even morally reprehensible
because theyd rather someone stay terrible or just straight up die than become a better person
from a compassionate point of view it’s deeply distressing
and from a pragmatic point of view it’s outright frustrating
I think part of the pushback about this is the idea that, to “redeem” bad people, their victims must first forgive them for unforgivable acts.
This is false. No one is obligated to forgive you. You can learn from your mistakes and become the best, kindest person on earth, and the people you’ve hurt still won’t forgive you, and you’ll have to accept that. And that doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to grow. Because we aren’t just “pure” or “sinful”, we’re complex.
i think we are long overdue for a game that does the reverse of 90s first person shooters and actively makes fun of the player for picking the hard difficulty
"i want to be dominated by an older girl" okay but what about dominating that older girl instead. what about getting rid of that voice in her head that says she's the older one and thus has to be in charge by force. what about showing her that she's allowed to be vulnerable and submissive despite the age gap. letting her relax in your arms for the first time in her life after years of being pushed into comptop by force. or am i just being an irredeemable pervert here
a while ago I read this sci-fi short story from the 50s where a guy is kidnapped and interrogated by aliens using a very sophisticated lie detector, but he realizes that the lie detector works off technical truth, and with some careful phrasing and misdirection, he manages to make them believe that humans are a race of immortal, overpowered, omniscient telepathic beings. and it works.
my favorite part is when he tells them that humans are "capable of transportation without the aid of spaceships or any vehicles, just by using mental power to control physical matter". it's true, we can. it's called walking.
okay I found it, it's The Best Policy by Randall Garrett
and it has other gems such as "I know beyond a shadow of a doubt what every member of my race thinks of you" (they don't know you exist) and "every human knows exactly as much about the location of your home planet as I do" (nothing)
It took a bit of searching, but I eventually found The Best Policy by Randall Garrett. Be aware during your search that this is a short story, not a novel. It is published in a number of collections. The website I used is ebookslib and I was able to read the story online. As to the story, it was great. I enjoyed it immensely. Clever, highly detailed descriptions that painted a vivid mental picture, the logic-puzzle theme was very engaging. I can recognize the OP and commenters’ long lasting memories of the story as well earned. The description of walking (see above) will stay with me for a long time!

white t girl i love you. and also do not forget that you are not the modern martyr for the oppressed voice. that's still black girls. it's always been black girls. stories of black martyrdom simply don't make it into the news cycle until the unrest caused by its reporting can be packaged as a "riot" segment between traffic reports. i know you suffer, but whatever you're experiencing, i beg you, when interacting with your community and building nuanced understandings of each other and the system which binds us, to not forget that a black tgirl has felt it 100 times worse before positioning yourself as an authority on all systems of oppression for having suffered unjustly at all. because you have suffered unjustly, but suffering unjustly as a white person means something so much different.
serenely reblogging this once more after deleting responses from white people saying "talking about this is actually unhelpful because im oppressed too" yeah i know. i wrote that down in the post i made, and i also wrote down why remembering the difference is important. did you read it?
there is no malice in my reminder. no "you need to do better", just a reminder. do not read it as such. i didn't write it as such.
again. i did not say you were not oppressed. this post is literally about how you are oppressed. it is a reminder that you are not the most oppressed person in the world, a way i've seen a lot of white transfems acting lately. maybe not even necessarily in a detrimental way, but in a way that definitely leans towards the "white is default" lane of thinking, which erases black suffering, which erases progress towards black safety. this, to me, is troubling, which is why i made this post. it's important when building solidarity within our community to understand who the most vulnerable of us are, because the safety of the most vulnerable of us will ultimately be the safety of all of us.
please do not be offended when you are reminded that your skin is white. im not calling you evil. im asking you to remain aware of yourself.
Thing is that I’m not the only Black trans woman writing theory on transfeminism, Black transfeminism, or trans intersectionality - I’m just lightskinned and won’t shut up so I’m one of the most visible ones, and crackers STILL get mad at me for saying the most basic-ass concepts like “white people are still white even if they’re otherwise marginalized”
In many cases, intracommunity racial intersectionality fails because given the choice between solidarity with nonwhite trans people and white people (trans or cis), white trans people will almost always side with other whites in the hopes of preserving a degraded position within white supremacy, because they internally see being “lesser” within whites supremacy but still above nonwhites as preferable to solidarity with nonwhites that loses them that positionality.
I wanna toss this link on here because it’s directly related to the whole “lack of intracommunity solidarity when race is involved” thing and has a specific example from my local community.
💬 0 🔁 132 ❤️ 218 · 100% agreed, but I also want to bring up a similar concern specific to Black transfemmes: the intersection of gendered
I do also feel like people think that I'm forcing folks to ask me permission to create certain things. I'm not. I have never asked anyone to ask me permission 😅 I spend a good amount of time telling people that they do not, in fact, have to ask me permission to create things 🤣
Nine times out of ten, when this happens, my response will compose of this:
1) Can you write this story?
Yes. There are stories as infinite as the human experience.
2) Should you write this story?/Should You write this story?
Maybe, maybe not, depending on how confident you are and how much effort you're willing to put in. Especially if the topics addressed are more serious, and therefore the response will be more serious if you mess it up. Sometimes, it may be more considerate to allow a creator of that identity to tackle it.
3) But I can't stop you. If you are going to do it anyway:
here's what you should consider as you proceed with your research.
i wanna see more stories with a time skip epilogue where at least one character has clearly transed their gender and it isnt really remarked upon. bonus if none of them were remotely hinted to be trans until that moment because i think it'd be funny to watch a fandom react to that. your blorbo's happily ever after involves being a woman. dont worry about it.
she will be happier when she embraces her sexuality. when she stops policing her own thoughts and desires and starts to explore and play! the world is so beautiful if you let yourself feel it 💜💜💜
a lot of the girls in my life have gone through this change. we start out sexually repressed and self hating for elements of our sexuality that are a little controversial or 'problematic' and so we turn that anger and hatred outwards and do performative disgust and harrass people who are out and proud freaks. but i know that all of us are happier on the other side of the fence. people harrass us and hate us and ban us but they can never take away our pride. they can never take away the joy and whimsy. they can never take away the beautiful freaky sex. we have each other and that's everything to me
Maybe this is an unpopular hot take, but I think a good monster girl design should struggle with day-to-day life in a human world. If your monster girl can live a normal human life where her greatest inconvenience is wet dog smell or people assuming her tail is fake, you need to mix more monster in your girl.
Harpies who can't write or type or open most containers with their wings. Werewolves who worry about hurting someone if they get overstimulated at the wrong time. Minotaurs with digestive systems and metabolisms which require grazing throughout the day, not the three big meals humans are used to.
Lamias who have to stay home in the evenings and during cold months to stay warm, otherwise their muscles stop working right and they get stranded.
And they're sick of their human friends suggesting they get some kind of tail sweater. It wouldn't help, the problem is that their body doesn't produce enough heat to begin with, and anyways a tail garment would get in the way of their rectilinear locomotion, and there's no way a sweater would survive being walked on in the first place. It feels like they don't actually care about you being stuck at home whenever they go out, they just want to feel like it's not their fault they never see you.
If your monster girl can't be read as some kind of disability allegory, you're doing something wrong.
there's a lot of grievance i have over monster girl design philosophy/exploration and this is one of them. i feel like another grievance i have toward monster girl designs is that the human dimorphism far outweighs + undermines monster girl part. the monster part is an afterthought (girl with dog ears and tail AT BEST).
harpies can be explored greatly based on whatever bird they're designed off of. lammergier girls who break jars in their talons by dropping them from great height since they don't possess thumbs. werewolf girlies who are debilitated by the sound of the vacuum cleaner. or monster girls who can 'recognize' their partners and peers by smell, but not faces.
there is so much that can be done with proper exploration of monster girls and it aggravates me why this isn't done more.

Every time an author reassures readers that the smut is skippable I sigh a disappointed sigh. This is not a reassurance. Why would anybody who likes smut want to read smut that was only included as an afterthought and has no impact on the narrative? Insulting. Just don't write it at all if you're not going to make it matter.
#on the one hand I understand that some people don’t want to read smut
Like 85% of tumblr users hate and loathe embarrassment based comedy with every fiber of their beings, but never in my life have I ever seen an author reassure their audience that the embarrassing scenes are skippable.
Lots of people dislike tragedy but never in my life have I ever seen an author reassure the audience that the death and grieving scenes are skippable.
Stop trying to pass off self-censorship as “accommodation.” Stop trying to pass off pandering as “inclusivity.”
Your audience can smell your fear, and it smells rancid.
