I was ready to be heartbroken again. Thank you for making it happy after all.

it would prolly be more accurate to, rather than saying “eridians are further behind humans” say “eridians have advanced in some fields much further and humans in others.” otherwise we run the risk of relying on the mistaken belief that social progress happens in a straight line with white western science as the gold standard to which everyone else is playing catch up to, rather than the truth which is that every society develops science according to its needs and priorities and will be more or less advanced in specific fields because of those priorities. Just as the Eridians haven’t studied Radiation, Humans haven’t studied the material science to make solid Xenon which was integral to the mission’s success. saying the eridians are just less advanced kinda undercuts the beauty of the narrative and world building that the Humans and Eridians are able to and in fact required to learn from each other reciprocally to overcome otherwise insurmountable odds. which is how we ought to view differing Human cultural priorities of discovery and learning as well.
