[Screeching sounded from deeper within the facility. He was angry.]

[If Chief could speak, they would be cursing everyone around them. But now they are just using sign language to order people around to go deal with Avery.]
[A bunch of guards are going to where Avery's cell is. Guns ready.]

[Now, a certain someone is more worried than caring about running away, especially when he hears Avery's voice.]
[Avery rushed past the guards like they weren't even there. He moved towards Derek's cell without any resistance. A god didn't wait for mortal defences.]
"DEREK! Are-"
[Oh. Oh gods.]
[Derek was packing his little belongings, mumbling to himself about how to proceed when Avery's voice snapped him out of his thoughts.]
[The right side of his face was all bandaged with hints of blood beneath it. He looked shaken, but if it was because of what happened to his eye or the current situation was uncertain.]
"... I need you to breathe."
[He knew this looked bad. He knew how Avery was when it came to people he cared about: that was a universal– no, multiversal thing.]
[He was really trying to breathe, but rage bubbled and boiled beneath the surface like a geyser. He was so fucking mad. How dare they hurt Derek like this? The one person that made him feel human? How fucking dare they?]
"..I'm gonna fucking kill him..."
"What we need is to leave this place."
[Derek gets up from his seating place to hold onto Avery's hand, trying to ground him. It's complicated when the cause of said rage is literally on your face, but he still tried.]
"First we get out, then we think of a payback. Doing something right now won't be good. Also..."
[Derek looked over Avery's shoulder. He seemed to focus on a specific room: Chief's office.]
"We need to deal with the Sonic Gun plants. I... only let it go this far because I hoped it would deal with The King, but right now, it poses more of a threat to us than to it."
"Okay. Okay."
[He looked back behind him at the office.]
"..you seem to forget that, no matter how human I feel around you, I'm still a god. Which can edit reality like lines of code."
"... still, I'd rather we keep ourselves grounded."
[That fact still bothered Derek a bit. Not the time to talk about it, though. He was already guiding the way.]
[Chief's office was a neat space: a gun safe, some cushion for visits, cabinets with documents and one peculiar jar simulating a piece of nerve system. The table was neat, there was that magic bi flag that was placed earlier and won't leave no matter how much they tried. Derek went straight for a cabinet, knowing exacly where the details of the machine were stored and started ripping it to shreds himself.]
[There was also a file about Derek on the table.]
[Avery couldn't help his curiosity. He moved to the desk, opened the file, and started reading.]
[It only took two paragraphs of reading for him to flip the file shut. It made him sick to his stomach. His talons dug deep trenches into the wood, splintering it easily. 'Don't cry. Not now.']
[He eventually punched the desk so hard one of the legs broke. He'd never been good with his temper, but this was a new level of anger he hadn't felt in a while. Not since Ryman was kidnapped by his universe's DMS.]
[The sound startled Derek, making him look back. It was easy to connect the dots.]
"... I'm done here." [He was trying to keep the focus on the situation at hand. In front of him, a bunch of shredded papers. Luckily Chief was pretty analogical with documentation.]
"We can leave-"
[There were footsteps, and then a shot that barely missed Avery's head. Guess who came straight for them? Chief is mad, their mouth still connection by pieces of skin thanks to the scam prior, but that magic was dissipating.]
"You..."
[Avery looked up and barely held back a screech of pure rage. 'Derek's still here. You'll hurt him, too.']
"YOU."
[He fully extended his wings to shield Derek from whatever the fuck Chief had planned.]
[then a second set of footsteps, lighter that the last, heads down the hallway as well. It's Winters, gripping a basket of food with a mild sheen covering his forehead.]
[While Winters was lost on what to do, Chief was going for the throat: if wasn't for the wings spread, the next shot would have gotten Derek. In the chest. 2 shots. 4 remaining.]
"Fucking bird..."
[Derek was on the back, searching for better cover. Let's be honest: he can't do shit right now. And that's distressing him so much.]
[Avery stared the chief directly in the eyes. He wasn't afraid of guns anymore. It wasn't like they could kill him, anyways. No god could truly ever die by mortal means.]
"You have tortured him. Poked and prodded and played god for far too fucking long."
[He stepped forward, steaming with rage. He was practically snarling.]
"How dare you? How dare you trap a god, act all high and mighty, and yet still not understand when you are OUTMATCHED?"
[Winters steps back a few feet, very obviously fear sweating. By some miracle, he doesn't bolt and instead pulls something out of the basket and holds it out. It's a sandwich, still decently fresh.]
Someone asked to give some, some food to you two. I, uh. I didn't have time to give it to you earlier.
